Only have good experience. 3 years in with our 6 year old GSD rescue.

I think a lot depends on the rescue too. We went to German Shepherd Rescue Scotland, have only got good things to say about them. They don’t have kennels and you don’t get to pick as such, the dog is matched to you (you can specify what you are looking for, male/female, age, good with cats etc etc).

It was quite a thorough application/interview process. We were interviewed at home, had to rebuilt some fences (judged to be not high enough). After a month with our dog, we were revisited to see how she was settling in.

The assessment of ours was bang on, good with dogs, good with children, good on lead, not good with cats etc etc. We got to miss out the toilet training and mouthing stages! We couldn’t have got a better dog :)

Sounds like training classes might be a good idea. We took our rescue gsd along to one, she had been assessed by rescue as good with dogs, (not cats), we thought it a good idea if we could learn a bit too, as it had been a while since either of us owned a dog. It’s a controlled environment, all dogs on leads etc.

I remember a nervous aggressive dog coming to class, the difference within a couple of months was impressive.

We went for a hi gear Mojave 5 on discount at Go outdoors. 2 rooms + living area. Loads of space to chuck stuff, plenty of room for us and the dog.
I would say get the biggest tent you can, makes life so much easier.

I did go a bit OTT when i went shopping, and I raided my mums caravan for tables and folding chairs. We also got the mojave porch, electric hook up point, heater, cooker stand. The best thing we bought was the Porch. So far its all fairing well. Coped with a rainy Skye rather well.

We took a guided tour with an Aussie through the Vatican. bonus was queue skipping! and he was pretty damn funny.
I loved Rome, you can walk everywhere. Take a wander down the backstreets for some off the beaten track restaurants. All the wine we sampled was fab.

I’ve gotten used to it. In all honesty it doesnt taste of much, its considerably tastier with rice milk. I like the Rice dream brand after trying a lot of soya milk etc etc. The texture isn’t as lumpy/thick as real porridge.

if I make it with water I definitely need yoghurt in it.

I bulk buy it from Amazon, along with all my other clean eating oddities like coconut oil. I’m sure other sellers are available!

I now eat millet flakes made with rice milk as a porridge alternative. spoonful of full fat Greek yoghurt or berries to liven it up.

this is from my “clean” eating experiment. Going well so intend on sticking to it. eating bread, other wheat products leaves me feeling rather bad afterwards now.

I was intending replacing my Hunters with Muckboots, till the other halfs started leaking through the sole after only 5 months wear (dog walking). My 5 year old hunters have had a reprieve.

I’m with Peverel. Seem to charge lots for not a lot.

I’m also in an estate, you need to get the majority of home owners on board. As they only got charged £12.45 for the last 6months work (compared to my £563) they aren’t too fussed about changing.

I did it in2009, went up the rongai route and down a more common route, I forget the name of the down route. We had an armed guard the whole way up, which I didn’t know about till I met him on an midnight loo adventure ( cheers altitude) don’t know who was more shocked!
It is a walk until summit night. That was tough. Our group had a 50% success rate, if i had tried to guess who woud make it i woud have been totally wrong.
The sunrise was stunning though, I often look back at my photos and can’t believe I was there. I was so tired I’m impressed I took so many.
I may be wrong but I think my success is in part due to training for a 300 mile cycle on the back of giving blood.

    Pole pole!!

    No??

But this thread has gone way too far off track.

It’s never crossed my mind that folk might be offended by diabetics injecting in public.

Are you sure she was paralytic? A hypo in some folk can appear the same.

Troon house prices are expensive, courtesy of golf course. great road cycling, easy access to Glasgow and beyond. Next to the sea.
Not too clued up on schools though.

Always been happy with my Alpkit stuff. My filo jacket was a bargain £50quid, mind you it is snotter green, but still. Going strong after 4 years.

The gamma torch is the best one I own, although the tailight has quit working. (The dog gets the blame for that, she was wearing it when she dived into a duck pond)

For me their stuff just works.

Howies stuff has never fitted me properly, I was getting fed up with the “preachy” element, as I perceived it.

I did 2, as in two. The way to the MOT station and back. Hopefully get out more in 2013. Have suggested a bike holiday to him indoors.

I was on a lowered ER5 (owing to my wee-ness)for my lessons. I see a lot of the places near me are using kawasaki ER6N’s as their learner bikes.

Def wrap up. It’s a lot more fun if you aren’t chilled to the bone.

I wouldn’t rule out a rescue. Depending on the rescue you should get a proper assessment of the dog. With a slightly older dog, they can be left alone for short periods and brucie bonus, no toilet training to do.

Maddie was selected for us and our circumstances and has been perfect. We had left our requirements quite loose, as in, we want a German Shepherd – not fussed on colour, sex, age etc. but you can be as specific as you want with some rescues.

I’m not a fan of designer crossbreeds. All the labrador-poodles we met at obedience glasses were utterly mental and dwarfed my female GSD.
Such big powerful dogs. I’m GSD biased but of that mix I’d rather have a poodle or a labrador.
I think the non-allergy element is a bit of red herring, they do still cast to a degree.

I downloaded 3g watchdog, at 75% usage, I get a warning, at 99% it switches data off altogether. How accurate it is? no idea!

I battled for ages to change bulbs in my C30, you don’t consult the manual for wee things like that do you?

Turns out, theres a metal pin that holds the whole headlamp unit in place. Take that out,pop the whole unit out, and the job is a total doddle.

Handy, I seem to pop a lot of bulbs these days.

I’d like to believe that some folk do have a “gift”.

However first words from the one i saw, “i’ve done a reading for your sister”
    “i don’t have a sister”
    “are you sure?”
    “are you questioning my mother?”

    awkard moment.

First one in ages I’ve liked. I don’t usually go for the modern look boxy ones. For once a down to earth budget too. I don’t think the lack of view from the main bedroom would bother me when its just a short trip down the stairs.
