    @matt_outandabout

Cheers for that. Those are definitely the sort of trips I want to be doing. I did take a drive round to Loch Katrine and marvelled at how I was once able to cycle the Dukes pass :).

I did wonder about SUPing there, I saw no other water users beyond the tourist boats.

I’ve just started myself, I love it!
It’s just so peaceful being on the water. I don’t want to just paddle about, I want to paddle with a purpose.
Had a mini adventure paddling out to an Island on Loch Ard, exploring the bothy.
Took a trip around my local coastline, nice to get a different view of the castles.
May try and get some overnight camps done, once I’m more confident/skilled.

    There’s a parkrun sup equivalent I’ve noticed.

    All the best with treatment.
My mum was diagnosed with CML, she was put on a trial drug, given a very conservative outlook. Twenty years on, she takes a tablet a day and its virtually undetectable. Good luck.

One was fairly effective at setting my neighbour’s shed alight two weeks ago. Seemingly used it and stored it away.

Bring it on. 100% yes for me. It’s time.

Why am I yes, In no particular order and not exhaustive, The Rwanda decision, Brexit, the potential breaking of the NI protocol. Johnson, what actually is there to sway a remain vote?

I’m currently doing my chartership paperwork for IMechE. Started it 20 years ago…..fell away from it.

Now I want it, just because. It won’t ‘get’ me anything as such, there is a push for it by my employer.

    102 miles on the road.
That was in the days of ancient non fancy cateye bike computers. We all kept going till we all had at least 100 miles registered.

I’m one of these ‘enthusiasts’ too. Paddleboard check.
Got a Billabong 5/4 wetsuit as I run cold and fell in a lot on my sup lesson. First run out with my own board was a fortnight ago, truly baltic, never fell in though. Got wet getting on. West coast Scotland.

Sportspursuit had a few buoyancy aids on offer. Got a Coolsurf one. Front zip, which is better for my female shape imo.

I love the idea of it, but we simply don’t have the space. Only one spare room, that’s now used as an office, the other office area being the living room. (we are both WFH) If I still owned my flat I would have offered that, but I wouldn’t have been on hand to chaperone? With the points raised above about support, it may not have been any use anyway.

We were only getting a new shower enclosure. This is where it starts! The shower we liked was bigger, makti qt or so. Quite a nice thing TBF.
The wall tiles had to come off. If the walls are getting done, should get the floor done, no point doing half a job…

    Ceiling down
Floor up, joists reinforced to fix previous butchering.
Back to brick, reboarded with elements board.
Porcelanosa had a 40% sale on (maybe they always do?)
    New loo
Just shy of 10k. We don’t have a bath.

That’ll be it for 20 years.

so many name issues. I have a two name first name, no middle name. No hyphen on my birth certificate, but one must have been added at primary school. Still get called by only one of them, which is odd, just doesn’t register as my name.

I also have an unusual Irish surname. a “mc” one. Got a letter for a Mr Mick XXXX :)
    Made me laugh.

we use Yumove plus for our 8 year old GSD who was becoming increasingly stiff. Have made a difference, so we intend to carry on with them.

I ordered a bundle from Fireguard, semi detached bungalow so don’t need a huge number of them. The reviews seemed promising. Went for battery rather than mains to save digging into 1929 walls. They all need to be replaced in 10 years anyway, wired or not.

It’s my own fault. I live in Dumfries and Galloway which is a bit special.

Yes, it’s a Tory voting area.

change can happen, I now live in what was a safe Tory seat (Ayr, Alloway), it returned SNP at the last vote. I’m taking the victory, it must have been me that tipped it!

Interesting, so what other benefits are you happy are non-means tested?

    prescriptions
bus travel for over 60’s, under 18’s now
uni education (I personally benefited from this)

    I’m sure there are more.
I’m in Scotland, there are differences. My tax contribution went up in the not so distant past, meaning I pay a little more than my English colleagues. For all the good of society imo.

i’ve had all my cars regassed, never cost as much as £100. I guess a service means more is done? The older the car (10 and 11 years old in my case) the less likely I was to have anything resembling cold air.

    Employed open window mode instead.

For proper warmth I have a 3/4 length North Face parka style coat (bought on sale, otherwise pricy).
Can be too warm at times!

I got a Yeti down short jacket from Sportspursuit which has been handy to have, packs down to nothing.

my dog walking jacking is a 2009 alpkit thing, starting to show its age, but best £50 i ever spent.

    Truly awful tragedy.

Those videos have given me the fear.

Having watched people sup all summer long at Prestwick and Shewlaton woods, I was desperate to give it a go. It took a while to be able to get on an instructor led introduction session. It was cancelled twice due to weather conditions. The occasion we did actually get to do it, they moved us from Maidens to the River Doon in Ayr that morning, again because of the weather outlook.
Haven’t actually splurged on any equipment, we all agreed we’d rather take a few more lessons and hire decent boards, wetsuits, buoyancy aids etc. It’s definitely ‘good’ to have a reminder of the dangers though.

Another vote for platinum. White Gold can tarnish over time.

Life is too short to spend time washing up.

    and loading, unloading dishwashers :)

    Dolcered

Why wouldn’t you have a bowl in the sink. Always a bowl in the sink, to allow for rinsing to be done around the edges of it.
Isn’t the washing up liquid supposed to ‘hold’ all the nasty stuff and keep it off the next dirty item?
As for a dishwasher, I would need to wait for an eternity to have enough to do a load. Far quicker to stick them in the bowl, in the sink and just get on with it!
I just don’t know how I have survived to this age.

Similar thing happened to me. For whatever reason the bank did not transfer my deposit payment to the solicitor on time, despite me paying their fee to have this done, and being stood in the bank at 11.30am on the Friday I was due to get the keys.
‘you must do this by 12noon the teller said’, ‘you’re in luck, it’s 11.30am’.
Penalty was £30 per day (2008), so £90 for the 3 days it took them to do it, and the bank covered it.

A stress you don’t need. I think the bank should pick up the fees.

Edit- Had a look at that Lighthound above. Looks like the lights are on the top as well as the sides. Does it dazzle you in the face?

the white light (lighter) options are very bright, the other colours are less in your face (red/pink). we do occasionally have to throw the ball to get her oot the road!

i like the slow change rave one!

Lighthound, its a harness style, expensive, but ours is 5 years old now. Was definitely worth it compared to the dozens of light up collars we went through.

    LightHound

We started a trend, everyone that saw ours asked about it, there’s about 6 running about Prestwick/Ayr now :)
I’ve just got the wearable human version for me for the bike.

awesome place. we went to celebrate our 40th’s. Lassies trip away.

Our flight times allowed us to go to Blue Lagoon on the way from the airport to our hotel. You pass it anyway so no point driving past then back again. Great start to any holiday.

We hired a fairly beat up Panda. We had taken out extra insurance before we went, getting done for gravel damage is apparently a thing.

We did a whale tour from Reykjavik, plenty of action so to speak.
    Guided walking tour of Reykjavik.
    Beer tour
Self drive tour to the big waterfalls and geysers. don’t bother waiting on the one that hasn’t went since 1982 or something, didn’t stop some tourists!
Highlight was ice-climbing on a glacier.

I would love to go back sometime.

Was always 5.30am – 6pm. Had a few weeks of midnight deliveries.
I don’t mind either time tbh.

Local farm, organic, calves get to stay with the mum’s, they get to keep their horns. Sounds like a better deal to me.
Supermarket milk seems very watery in comparison now.

I’m really enjoying my Liv brava SLR (cycle to work bike 2016). 5ft 3.5in for ref.
It was labelled a cyclo-cross, the newer ones are labelled cross/gravel all rounder bike (I think).
I’m using it far more than my road bikes just now.

House round corner from me went 30% above, and I’m only in lowly prestwick, 50% isn’t beyond the realms.

    I’m in lowly newton-on-ayr :)

The house next door went up for sale, queued out the door with people viewing it.
I thought Prestwick was still highly desirable, except when young team are roaming about at pub shutting time.
