i’d go CX, will be faster and still prob “overbiked” for most of brum and surrounding areas.
1k will get you a pretty decent bike with discs and a carbon fork.

2 tabs and hose clamps as per salsa instructions for if you dont have the 3 mounts.

mine cracked at the welds on the tabs. it had a <kilo sleeping bag in it for a few hours there and back on an overnighter.
even cheapy bottle cages hold water bottles with about the same weight for years with no issues.

apart from that very good 🙄

i can confirm that after eating a second helping of the aforementioned steak pie after it had been left an additional 24hrs in a cold oven that food poisoning is a myth. FACT

    is it worth? it realy?

how much does a pie cost?

oh yes, and £8 to answer your Q.

just back from lunch and it (well about a 6th)went down a treat with some mash, marrowfat peas and gravy.
got a funny taste in my mouth now though

and sausage in your steak pie is just plain wrong people.

i used one of the ones that clamp to the seatpost for about a year and a couple hundred miles off road with no problems. about £20 off ebay but they weigh about a kilo and only take a few kilos of weight (easily enough for sleeping bag change of clothes and cooking stuff though)
use a revelate seat bag now and its much nicer.

due to a number of reasons all my family are in different parts of the country. i’m keeping this fact quiet from friends etc as a day off to do whatever is very rare for me in dec. if it’s nice will get out on the bike at some point but nice food and booze will be involved at some point.

you can strap the light directly to a xen using the rubber band thing, there is a handy crosspiece? on the in the middle vent if you see what i mean. also wrapped a bit of insulation tape round it to give it a rounder profile and make it a bit grippier never had any slippage.

had the whyte cx (charing x?) with 10spd tiagra for about a year, cant fault the tiagra stuff and the bb5s are good although i have no experience of other cable stoppers. the £40 fsa bb died after about 2000miles (1500road 500 off ish) but i wouldn’t say 2000 miles on a bb is a problem and only other thing thats been changed has been a new chain and bar tape.

very happy with the bike on and off road although the rear wheel has popped a couple spokes but to be honest it has been pretty badly abused off road and used for a bit of bikepacking.

I think we’ll see a manned fighter jet using scramjet engines in the near future though.

seriously doubt that the air force is moving towards drones/unmanned for many reasons. making a reliable high mach aircraft will be much easier if you dont need things like life support, ejection seats etc.

also didn’t the US announce a few years ago they are looking at systems with the capability to attack anywhere on earth within 90min. scramjets are the tech to make this happen.

I’ve been using a Vango Force 10 Helium 100 for a while and it’s great. Quick/easy to pitch, very stable, just over 1kg and very well made.

been using mine for 2+ years (7-8 weeks approx )very happy with it. survived some pretty bad weather and keeps the midges out. nice and light and packs small if that is important to you 😀

Cheers guys, checked out the eildons the other day and guessed the whole area would Need a good freeze or dry spell to make it work. Guess I’ll need to do a bit more exploring.
Nights at gt sound great but I’m in the area visiting a lady friend and don’t think our relationship is at the stage where I can bunk off to go out on the bike at night. I’ll give it a few weeks:)

That BRIXMIS book is a good read. I remember seeing one of their cars (like this one) at the national army museum a while back:

    Converted to four wheel drive.

    Andy

need to get hold of that book, remember reading about those cars somewhere. converted at great cost (6figs iirc) to 4 wheel drive so they could get about the cobbled streets at high speed.

Let’s remember what this man is being deported to stand trial for? Strip away the religious nonsense he’s hiding behind.

He is charged with kidnapping people, instigating multiple murders, amongst other equelly unsavoury things over a period of years! He has done nothing but take, take, take from a civilisation he claims to despise, and who he had openly said should be destroyed, while contributing absolutely nothing but division and hatred!

If you, like some misguided ‘useful idiots’ think that that’s something worth defending, then I think you need to have a think about whether you’d have the freedom to voice conflicting opinions, living in a world where people like Abu Hamza have the upper hand? Do you think you would? Seriously? Do you think a ‘judicial system’ would even exist in his world?

The lesser of two evils? I certainly think so!

ah the old “try living in their world” thing. you seriously think that the uk is in danger of becoming a sharia state? it is in danger of getting worse but not in that way.
wonder if all those CIA agents charged with kidnapping in Italy are in any danger of deportation??

ah yes i can see the similarity between motorcycle and bicycle frame building 🙄

my steel bike is noodly as hell in a good way but i can see that just about any material came be made to flex or be stiff it’s how it’s used

took many years to learn to just go with it, no point lying in bed staring at ceiling may as well read a book etc.
the hardest part though is trying to relax when you have a hard day ahead and are still awake at 5 then start stressing about it.

had one start to rattle a couple of months after buying it then a huge amount of play quickly developed. the legendary customer services at hope told me it was wear and tear and to do one when i asked for a replacement. managed to get a new one after a few emails and mailing proof of purchase to them.

Yeh the estate trails not well advertised but worth a spin as part of a ride in the area

    doh
    Free Member

Some man made trails on the callander estate behind the wheel you don’t mention, think you got pretty much everything else covered though as the terrain gets a bit flat around the area. Some trails at croy/Kilsyth about 30mins along the canal. Your best bet in this part of the world is plean/torwood cambusbarron/north third and Stirling uni/mine woods. Check out Stirling bike club for more info and rides
