I know the funicular is having probs at the moment as well so bike is already in the car shame not too.

Afaik locking the wheel off-road will usually stop you quicker as the loose material is pushed infront of the tyre increasing friction.

Hub/bb gearboxes are a nice idea but unless anything radical happens still too expensive and heavy(maybe a Chinese carbon bodied and machined thing could be good) and the loss of efficiency will always do this and driveshafts no favours.

Face it the future for most is battery and motor assist flavoured.

the fatty is my only mtb now, get a set of the on one fat not fat 29er wheels as well and it is as close to a do it all bike as you’ll get. one bike two sets of wheels is really all I need.

also don’t see any good reason to go out of the way to spec cable pull brakes, if you are using road levers fair enough (happy cx bb5 user) but after biking thousands of miles with many different people with many other bikes I have only seen a couple of hydro failures and one was from a pretty good crash. just seems like kind of “that’s what the pro’s use in -20c Alaska”
and besides I don’t like giving my money to sram.

canny put pics up here but my current bike is an on one fatty with 29er wheels, works very very well for bikepacking.

minimum kit has been worked down to;
alpkit extra drybag with Tesco down sleepingbag, dry pj’s and exped ul7 mat strapped to bars. waterproofs stuck in the straps for easy access.
helium 100 tent strapped underneath top tube with a big saddle bag or
big old fashioned triangle bag strapped upside down to seatpost-toptube filled with tools snacks and a tube and levers.
relevate big saddle pack with cooking stuff with an emergency meal and more food. some clothes for in tent and if room a pillow:)
small backpack with tube, pump, torch, phone, book, tablets + 1st aid, space blanket, water, sunnies, and other general stuff.

Opened the curtains this morn to find two of the little poop machines swinging from the bird feeders. I’ll make them rat proof but I’m afraid I’m gonna have to go down the skull smashing neck snapping route now.

Clearing out the shed resulted in three incidents when manly screaming was required. One dirty wee fecker was even inside a cardboard tube I picked up, imagine me and a rat bouncing off the walls trying to avoid each other while getting out the door 1st.
Poison blocks have been liberally applied about the place I’ll give it a few days to see if they get nibbled before I deploy some kind of scull smashing neck snapping device.

Would highly recommend a micra 160sr, 1.6 110bhp but great fun comfy and cheap ish to run. Does 40 odd mpg round town near 60 on motorway taking it easy.

can’t imagine how miserable i would be if i went camping and the only food was cous-cous and muesli, some of you are very strange.

most of the supermarkets do a wide range of precooked pasta/rice/risotto and things like chilli/bolog/curry in handy plastic pouches. would rather carry bit of extra weight and have something tasty.

i remember reading that larger/more expensive cars have much higher margins because after r+d and tooling it doesn’t cost much more in materials to make a porsche versus a corsa etc.
iirc porsche has the highest margins of all the makers.

hans dampf front and rear kept me straight and true on mon night when most people where all over the shop. running the pacestars the trailstars would be even better.

used various bolles for years but found that the fake oakley jawbones to be much better with 3 diff lenses and a nice case for about a tenner

you can get on the beach no problem out of season at black rock sands (cant remember the town) great fun in any car

Fish farm fish good…. Net caught fish bad, imo.

huge amounts of little fish are caught to make the food for the farmed fish. this leaves little for the wild fish (or anything else) to eat.
very bad imo.

i have a disk braked cx bike that gets used on the road and sensible off road with a bit of touring/bikepacking thrown in.

also have on one fatty with a spare set of 29er wheels that is used for general bombing about in the woods and bikepacking.

two bikes cover most of my riding although anything too rocky can get a bit tricky.
