I know people are saying fox is better but I’m starting to think the cheaper option is to get the manitou that come with it shortened and tuned as thisisnotapipe has mentioned. I really don’t want to leave it too long though as I don’t really want a 155mm travel bike… I do want something with very strong pro pedal option as Im not super fit and want to conserve my energy at races to the downs…

The shock that came with the bike is a manitou swinger x3… That has 3 spv settings

Ok cheers… The guy I bought it off (ebay) had bought a new shock for it… But having got it I see he has bought a shock with the wrong stroke 56 not 50. He’s apparently had it spec’d and fitted by a cannondale dealer… I doubt they would be that silly. So I basically need a new shock… But have limited funds… Ideally I want lockout as I bought the bike for enduros… Want the lockout for riding up… Maybe I should hold out for and Rp23…

Cheers for your help guys… I’m guessing the tune will be wrong for my bike but I don’t have the money at the moment for a service so hopefully the suspension characteristics wont be too different. Does the off setting on an Rp2 have any pro pedal? And does the on mode amount to a lock out?

Cheers guys, so I’m sensing that I should be ok with a shock from a commencal meta… My concerns mainly came from seeing this http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/07/eng/rear_shocks/float_rp2.htm the text next to diagram says high volume standard air sleeve… A bit confusing, to opposing terms in one single definition???

Apparently the Argentine default is the closest thing… Article above gives an insight in to what could happen… But then a slowing euro country must be different to a growing southern American country in terms of how it would respond to a default…. I can only see both routes would mean austerity… If they are over spending. But on a macro level it must be like defaulting on a credit card… The bank has no choice but to accept a lower payment.. but then you might not get another credit card in a while…

I think they all acted incredibly well. But I couldn’t understand why, if it was standard practice to use the hammocks as stretchers they hadn’t been taught to do something about the ties. Also, I am aware all troops have to experience contact for a first time… But to be put at point? Surely that doesn’t stand up to reason?

three cheers for the muppets willing to shoot someone for a pittance, never understood that mentality.

@sesame… (think that’s your handle)… Really? If you have an argument that mnd of approach isn’t going to convince anyone.

@yossarian the west had been trying to connect with the taliban for a long time. I think much of what you say is good, but it isn’t always possible. While with hindsight the Iraqi war seems to have been wrong, there is clear evidence that Afghanistan had become a military camp for terrorists. What would you have done to stop it being one. It was clearly an effective training base, the continuing problems today still steming from there. With hindsight it was our unwillingness to tackle extremism in the past that led to the problems.

They may disagree with western capitalism but so do China. They seem to have worked around it. Islamic extremism exists amongst a minority and exploits that minority. Let’s not make excuses for the taliban either.

It was a very thought provoking programme and made me think why are those poor boys being exposed to such incompetence, both politically and practically. Maybe they did underestimate what being a soldier really meant. Maybe they got it wrong some of them. I think 18 year olds can make mistakes. We feed ourselves enough of our own style of propaganda about war. The same as an 8 year old afghan child I saw in a documentary many years ago, with older men playing him the audio on a cassette of his father being killed in a fire fight. That young boy being groomed back then could have been one of those men behind the trees. A little far fetched to be true possibly, but the reality may not be too far away.

2nd hand 2007 trance? bloody great versatile bikes for the money… hack mine around on single track and mini dh runs and it laps it up… you can pick them up for about £450 full build. The Yukon is a heavy single pivot… no match for the maestro trance… you could probably get a second hand 09 trance for a good price…

think someone has said already but not all blokes would be in to mountain biking… alot of blokes prefer team sports… some blokes dont like sport at all… I really do think if truth be told that someone women don't like mountain biking because of social acceptance… for lots of reasons its seen as a masculine sport and so it may threaten some womens sense of femininity. I imagine those that do it are either more not as stereotypically feminine or are simply secure in their femininity and don't care because they enjoy it. I also bet if mountain biking developed a more mainstream aspirational appeal such as skiing, more mainstream (possibly superficial) women would do it. Not sure this would be a good thing. stereotyping again(but the question kind of leads any reply in to stereotyping) but… I think more men are probably in to the kit and adrenanline side of the sport, where as women may be more in to the social / fitness side of things. I'd finish by adding all of these ways of enjoying the sport are equally valid… skiing point is most contentious and willing to accept may be wrong… but think there is an element of truth…

There seems to be increasing pressure from corporates to reduce the size and influence of the BBC. Spearheaded by the Murdochs and their various media outlets. I think they genuinely see an oppotunity to bring the BBC to an end and they will do everything they can to bring that about (with much political lobbying, particularly aimed at the conservatives).

If your happy having your ideas spoon fed to you by the Sun and Sky then these are good times. If you think the cultural life of this country benefits from the neutrality and depth of broadcasting only served up by the BBC (and the other channels they influence), then these are worrying times.

As previously said I would probably talk to your GP. But that said it really depends on the quality of your GP. If you genuinely feel like you have depression this should be your first move. I am not an expert on these matters, but I understand there to be different causes to depression either enviromental or physiological or a combination of the two, as well as different kinds of depression. I would steer clear of self help books, they are more about NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) than the more academically recognised CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Again, not an expert, but the former is more about a one size fits all approach (could more harshly be charaterised as brainwashing) where as the second is more simply about understanding how you view the world and how some of those views can be self defeating and about looking at the possibility of changing those views. Its much more personal and about you. But all therpay can be relatively costly, so in your position id try and get referred if you think it would help.

But as said the fact that you ride is a great positive so you are already on the right tracks.

I am a web designer by profession for what it is worth. All I would say is you should really get a good understanding of the different levels of webdesign that exist before you start. Then you can understand what it takes to get to each level. Its a different level designing a website for your local shop than for a Blue chip company and requires (normally) different levels of education. Theres also a difference between building websites and designing websites. None of these are reasons not to do it. Just simply try and form an idea of what you are aiming for and the right course of actions to get there. Search Engine Optimisation is the fastest growing sector in the industry and if you become an expert in SEO there are currently good career paths.

To go against the grain i rekon it would look alright… but as above maybe orange grips would look better…

I'm not sure its the orange bar that has alot to do with the problems that IBIS seems to be running in to. I'd say white tyres, orange rims, white grips and white forks, all at the same time are pushing the issue more…

The bbc simply rocks and is a corner stone of our cultural life and is a genuine voice in the world with the world service. Amnesty International was started in Briton. We are at forefront of global research in to climate change. We own 10% of the space engineering market, with a very limited investment compared to other countries. We are quite big in medicinal research. We have some of the best universities in the world.

We are always open to adapting and redeveloping. I think we are going through some massive changes at the moment but I really think the creative energy of this country will see us progressing as we always have.

I think there is a hell of alot left in us yet!

Very sorry to hear that ddmonkey. I have to say I have no personal experience, what I heard being said by intelligent people seemed to make alot of sense and I saw there weren't that many signatories so thought I would post it here.

It sounds like your experience backs the fact there is a need to do more.

Personally I think you'd be fine with standard shimano deore's… plenty of power for the type of bike you have and riding you described. I have old deore's on my short travel full suss and ride trail centres and little dh runs and they are fine. But shimano are the way to go for reliability. Had my old deores for five years bled three times max and had nothing go wrong. I'd save the £100 from buying deores and upgrade your frame when you can…

I would say for the UK it seems to have distinct disadvantages in the long term. Chinese and Indian Corporates have far more potential to outgrow buy up and streamline smaller UK companies. When the only interest a company pays attention to is that of it's share holders then society has problems. Unfortunatley there are no real checks and balances, or any effective moderating legislation. It is a cliche but one fast becoming more true. The rich get richer and the poor will get poorer. We do not have a stakeholder economy just a shareholder economy.

Interms of growth and population size, I think wars often stimulate growth. With the worlds limited resources nature will limit us as much as any other species. War and starvation may be the inevitable outcome. That's if you believe this well respected scientist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLA-Sn6bi-U .

Historians seem to think there is never any shift in global power without conflict. So the exchange of power from the US to China may not go smoothly. Especially with potential flash points such as Taiwan.

Then again, we might all use the great power for social cohesion called the internet and community group our way to a more peaceful and caring solution?

Well, someone is selling a whole front brake for £22, mine is a rear so was just going to swap the cables. The top of the pistons on my rear are a little rough (my fault) so I would probably need to buy new ones for £10 with this and hassle it looks to replace them (read you need to blow air through and all sorts) I thought £12 extra and swaping a cable would be easier. Plus I get a spare to boot, that I could fix later? sort of made sense to me at the time.

If you find out from your LBS let me know I'd be interested. I have the same issue with some Juicy 5's.

I think the rear callipers ceasing is a common problem. So it may be this. As for the leaking not sure if this is a result of calipers leaking?

As I said mine do exactly the same. Ceased at one end leaking around the filler cap at the other.

Not really any help, just to let you know I think this can happen to Juicy's what a bike shop would do I don't know. Mine gave mine back to me saying they worked. Which they clearly didn't. But didn't bother to argue as I thought it was a waste of time with people unwilling to investigate. Am now gonna buy a new caliper and see if that works and do it myself.

groovey cheers! i'm gonna have to have to change the cable, so will have to lookat all the instructions… but what is an olive? Do i need a different one to make a front caliper an rear caliper?

went out today in 5.10's sealskinz socks and didn't feel a thing and i spent some of the time walking around in ankle deep snow.

So maybe flats are better… even though 5.10's are kinda made for DH they are bloody great for XC too as give you a bit more grip on the up stroke. Nothing like spds of course but still better than normal shoes.

I'm sure CRC have screwed up a few times… but in my experience in ordering from them for 4 years I have only ever had one single problem, a headset i ordered looked used, but i rekon someone must have sent that back to them in that condition, i suppose they could have checked, buti didnt really care as they readily replaced it. Other than that, and as someone who works on ecommerce websites, i can only say their delivery service is the mark by which i judge others. And we all know they are great for price. To be honest with some of their prices you could expect them to take their customers for granted. But nothing of it. They deliver for me every time. They are great with returns also. I have no need to blow smoke up their jacksies but that is simply my experience. They have generally been pretty good with email reponses and very helpful. Sure the phone is quie often jammed but i suppose its tuff being popular? Now i don't want to do down people that have problems. If it was me id be pissed too. But i rekon its reasonably rare with them.
