I am still waiting for my council decision. But, I am half expecting, from reading forums, that they will continue with the process and only a threat of court will put them off (it costs them lots of time and money). I am of half a mind at the moment to take it to court (small claims).
dogmatixFull MemberI would agree with aracer. I am contesting one at the moment (flipped over ticket) If it is a council PCN then the moment you contest everything is put on pause i.e. you still get the grace period at the reduced charge. But as mentioned check:
dogmatixFull Memberi like the bank robbery suggestion best! If you do it can you gopro it (but not in the toothbrush way)?
OR…. knock up some little wheels trollies, jack it up and move it a bit further down? ? ???
dogmatixFull MemberChristopher Hitchens wrote a book and made a film (on youtube) about mother teresa’s practices in calcutta. He claims many patients were refused medical care to alleviate their suffering (pain killers) as it was the patients duty to suffer for god. This information was based on people who worked for her at the time.
dogmatixFull MemberI’ve just worked out how much richmtb has in saving and I am going to try my damndest to get his bank details 😮
dogmatixFull MemberI’m probably stating the obvious, but the walk to leith hill tower is nice. You can choose your approach, and tea and cake are served at the shop. Not sure what your drive there would be.
dogmatixFull MemberThe Santander one also gives you money back on direct debits. Look at what the market is saying about the upcoming RBS share sale. Be carefull though, it may not be the same generous offering as it was with the post office.
dogmatixFull MemberJust while I’ve got time, I have had this issue before, and I found the really easy solution was to ask the pers
dogmatixFull MemberAlso, is that a oneUp your fitting? I am just building my new bike with a oneUp for the first time. Have you had any chain dropping issues?
dogmatixFull MemberI’d say it was very mild OCD with a touch of anxiety. I think I have the same and many here seem to too. I think the diagnosis of mental illness is about the extent at which the behaviour impacts on your life. I remember a comment by a Doctor at Bethlem Royal Hospital, saying that, we may all have some of the traits of mental illness, its by what degree that is important to whether we need treatment. So, yes, although you might be joking, you might be a bit ill, but then so are most of us 😮 :$ :*
dogmatixFull MemberI am very very confused by any argumnent against it. We have no choice about coming in to this world so we should be able to choose when we leave. There would simply have to be very very strict legislation. That shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. I often think the real sticking point is money. I assume the beaurocracy that would be introduced would be quite high, but then I assume this would be balanced with the reduced cost of caring to the terminally ill. As for care homes, I often think they do everything to keep people alive. People are no use to them dead.
The reality is the rich already have access to this service. So it is simply illegal for the less well off. It’s a two tier system. So there really is no debate about the ethics of it, just access.
Crankboy, I feel very sorry for your loss. My Father suffered in the end (in a different way) and I would have done anything to be able to have been able to ease that pain for him. It wasn’t the managed palliative care I had heard so much about. It was badly managed and brutal. As has been said, animals get better treatment.
dogmatixFull MemberOn the Capri, I was also going to say, surely the 280 is the one to go for? But, not sure about that turbo kicking in on what is already a rear happy car. I had the pleasure of spinning out my 2.0s (bright mustard colour) in the wet on a roundabout, unintended.
dogmatixFull MemberMy mate Ant sells some nice mountain bike stuff. Beautifully designed and not your average items. Basically, good present material for the biker who has everything. http://www.anthonyoram.com/
dogmatixFull MemberThey let me put one of my bikes in the trail center before too. When I camped (middle of jan a few years ago) some kids drove up in to a car park beside the camp site. I am not sure how they got there. I think it is part of the industrial bit next to the camp site. I can’t remember a few years ago, might not be the same now. They must have been a hundred yards or so from me. Might have just been my bad luck. I wasn’t too bothered, but would avoid again as a result. Afan site much quieter, and nicer view in the morning.
dogmatixFull MemberThere is absolutely no excuse for grammar or private schools. They are elitist and the source of a divided society. It is impossible to tell what a child or person is going to go on to achieve in their life until they have achieved it. The argument of holding children back is a valid one, but it is an argument against grammar schools. Grammar schools prevent the majority from achieving their true potential. People that want grammer schools want a society of exclusive not equal opportunity. Make all schools good and let children do their best in that environment. Anything else buys in to the flawed market distortion of Darwinian Theory. More recent research in to behaviour amongst humans, shows that groups that work together and for each other are more successful. Children can flourish at any age so to put a cap on when society will recognise this is rediculous. Society should be more focused on the glass floor as opposed to the glass ceiling. Their are many midddle and upper class children that are prevented from failing by a system that props them up. This is the truth that many fail to recognise. We do not have a meritocracy at all, its a fallacy and a lie that masks the true nature of our hegemony.
dogmatixFull Memberpoopscoop, did you have a lateral tiny bit of play in the main pivot to begin with?
dogmatixFull Membermy old srams were super solid (x9 on downhill bike circa 2010), but been on shimano a few years on trail bikes, thought id go back to sram as my shimano got a bit slopppy. Hmmm starting to wish I hadn’t? How long have you been running them jakebeach?
dogmatixFull MemberI stayed there for an enduro race. So there is camping there and a shower block. I am not sure if you have to be booked in to some kind of package/training to camp there. I think they have cabins as well? Worth checking out. Can’t see it being as cheap as the forestry places though.
Just looked, looks like they have camping.
dogmatixFull Memberoh bugger… i am just building a new bike and built it around this.. got a oneUp 42t and planned on using it with GX 10 speed mech and shifter. Are they really that bad?
dogmatixFull MemberI’ve stayed in both. Like mildbore said your more likely to be bothered by locals at Glyncorrwg (copied and pasted!). I wasn’t bothered by them in the same way, but they parked up near the campsite late on a friday night as kids do, loud music etc, till about 11pm. But you can get the benefit of the wifi from the Glyncorrwg centre, or at least you could a few years ago. Both will probably be very quiet this time of year. I think the shop at the afan one may close down at certain times of year, but I would check this, been a couple of years since ive been to either. Although, I just got a new tent and am planing a trip to one or the other in a couple of weeks. Myself, I think I am going to Afan, due to the kids issue.
dogmatixFull MemberI would also add that I have been over towards alderbrook copse many times and seen what can only be described as devastation when the trees have been harvested. The point about bridal paths, footpaths and roads runs true too. It seems like its one rule for some and one rule for mountain bikers. I am not saying the SSSI point isnt valid. But then it should be valid for all. In this regard completely new trials are questionable, but developed old trails can’t be seen as too much of an issue. I’d also question the intactness of biological heritage. There are rhododendron invasions all over the place. How long have the pine forests been there? The area was historically renowned for its Yew woods amongst others.
dogmatixFull MemberMy two pennies, the very fact you are asking for a pay rise is enough for most employers to know your position. If you are going to threaten to reduce your hours I would seek professional advice, some CAB’s may be able to help. If you know your position for sure then you aren’t making decisions in the dark. I wouldn’t antagonise anyone until you are sure of your position. Basically I am saying you don’t need to show your whole hand. Tell them why you deserve a pay rise. If they say no, find out where you stand on A) legally reducing your role B) getting a new job. Be tactical not hot headed.
dogmatixFull Memberhahahahaha im laughing at myself for saying this, but I think they did this on Nina and the neorons. It was certainly on something on cbeebies.
dogmatixFull MemberAs others have said, a calibrated temperature gauge is probably a better measure than lifting the bonnet up and having a see 😯 in the middle is exactly where it is meant to be.
dogmatixFull MemberDude my wife had lots of problems with this too. The maternity nurses in the hospital for our first baby were pretty militant breast feeders. My wife felt pretty devastated. Its hard enough for women and the hormones and emotions they are feeling after just giving birth as it is. The point reiterated by many is your wife is very far from being alone and not a failure. This article is interesting:
http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/breastfeeding-formula-debate-mothers-baby
another:
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/nov/24/class-baby-breastfed-life-chances-inequality
extract:
‘But the scientific evidence is not what it seems. The only really consistent finding is that breastfeeding reduces a baby’s chance of getting a stomach bug. The protection only lasts for as long as you breastfeed. And it’s not clear whether the protection comes from something in the breast milk or from not using dirty bottles.’So, the science can be disputed, yes breast probably is a little bit better. But your wife’s welfare and emotional relationship with her baby are probably more important. Breast milk isn’t going to make your child a genius. In fact of our two children the one who had no breast milk is very advanced in her class, she’s 6 and reads 2-3 80 page paper backs a night. I only say that so you can see it hasn’t hindered her.
Also, whilst my wife wasn’t the best breast feeder, she has gone on to be a genuinely amazing mother, and that has not just been recognised by me, but by friends and family.
dogmatixFull MemberI know they are 6mm 12.7, but I don’t know the exact widths for front and rear?
dogmatixFull MemberI bought the frame without a shock. Yes the eye to eye and length is the same. They are both 200×57. Both frames are OST lapierre design but must be a little different as they have 10mm different travel.
dogmatixFull Membercheers, so BB90 is what I am looking for and it should fit a standard crankset? Thanks Bitterlemon I might send you an email if that is cool, I didnt want to bother you.
As i tend to buy oldish kit I havent kept up with BB sizes. Are there large crank axles for the new larger BB’s? Or do they take a standard crank axle and just have the bearings internally?
Cheers….
dogmatixFull MemberI’m with moshimonster(thats twice in two days)and our maninthenorth on this. Though it may be your job thats the problem, its hard to know for sure. If you find out more about what you want to do/be either with career coaching or a therapist. (therapist arent just for fixing psychological problems, they can help you uncover stuff about yourself, I’ve seen one, not because I had deep issues, just because I felt like my life could be better, and I thought it was good to talk to someone about it, someone trained and with knowledge, it was more an oil and filter change, as opposed to a new head gasket). Its hard to look at yourself and what you want with an objective mind, its like looking at a picture with your nose rammed right up against it. People around you can help but no matter how objective they try to be they can’t give you a really independent view. They themselves are only two foot away from the painting. You need someone independent but that takes the time understand who you are and what you really want. Just make sure if you do go down this route you choose someone reputable and ask for references that you can contact.
dogmatixFull MemberSee a therapist, im only half joking. Whilst theres lots of prejudice about such things. It could help you discover more about what your reasons are and so find a clearer answer. It could save lots of time.
dogmatixFull Memberahhhh look i know its a bit heavy on the point…. hahaha, gone so overboard, ive made it to land already, but its just something I have on my mind… and I care about the people, kids, families, etc in this country… I think we do have some good ideologies (present) to defend too… (yes our past was pretty poor)(plus i want the kids in china to be happy too, but they have enough industry now and in to the future for that)
And personally i really do think it does and can make a difference. There are battles worth the fight and some not worth it. I think this is a battle that is worth the fight.
dogmatixFull Memberhahah im going to edit some bits out… i was being over sarcatsic/catty for a laugh…
dogmatixFull Membernick1962 yes your right, along with the help of western liberal economics they were able to lift that many people out of poverty. That was 40 or so years after 36 million* (THIRTY SIX MILLION) of their OWN people starved to death at the hands of the communist regime. Over half of the entire UK population starved to death. (there are no exact figures)that beats pretty much any global atrocity… well there was stalins communist russia, that was close. both of these, mind, to their own populations. Thats how strong their ideology is and how strongly it has been enforced.
oh to ‘bring some figures in’, slightexageration on foreign aid figures closer to $7.1 billion (itsy titsy tiny bit less than the hundreds of billwions you mentioned) development assistance. that makes it the sixth largest in the world behind UK, US, Germany, France and Japan, yet it has the second largest economy in the world.Still does foreign aid legitimise a Communist regime? oh you already stated it doesnt? So why mention the figures? I am clear about why I have added my (correct) figures. I think it is a questionable regime. I’m out in the open.dogmatixFull Memberwarpcow… thats a strawman argument. China of the past isn’t china of the present. Didn’t you get the whole revolution, long march, little red book thing? But still, that china I am talking about is of the past too. The new china is even worse with a communist power structure and cultural control over the individual, with the economic unfairness of unfettered capitalism. Communism takes the day zero method of cultural change. Everything before it was expunged and made illegal. Also, democracy was introduced in to china by european philosophy. But look I am not going to get ushered in to your cul de sac. China historically has given alot to the world. We are not discussing the past we are talking about very probable future trajectories. The ideas now espoused by the west, such as freedom of speach and democracy are seen by the chinese communist party as a weekness in western society. They have too large and too fragmented a nation state to allow anything like the western model to exist. I had a friend who often visited tibet. The oppression he saw there, both overt and covert, was unimaginable. He told me about the railroad they built in order to bring more chinese Han in to out compete the tibetans in terms of population. Sounds like old colonial Britain. An appauling part of our history, but that is happening today, in China.
“Some kind of cultural genocide is taking place,” the Dalai Lama said earlier this month. “In general, a railway link is very useful in order to develop, but not when politically motivated to bring about demographic change.”
Anyway as I said, i don’t want to impose western ideology on to them. That was someone elses point. I just don’t want us to loose ALL of our power and product development to them, and to clarify, when i say them, I mean the chinese communist party.
dogmatixFull MemberI am not painting myself as whiter than white. I am saying ‘You know what. I think this is wrong. I have had a think about it and I think it is wrong’, my choice for me, my opinion.
I’m clearly in the minority, I think moshimonster is the only one that agrees.
For me thats a shame.
(dbcooper the UKIP thing? really? thats really cheap, does that serve anyone? Does being against a Communist regime make me UKIP? If it were India we were talking about I really would have a slightly different view on it, my argument would be much harder to make. They have a democratic culture. Christ UKIP? really? )
