Chamonix is shit! If you like overcrowded bus rides to the decent slopes up the valley then go! Went once never again. I hate wasting my ski holiday hanging around for buses! Tignes again this year, high guaranteed snow and a 2 min walk to piste!

Afan bashing is sad. It’s a great area but sadly he riding has been decimated by tree disease and new windfarm development! It will however rise again once the scourge of phytophorum ramorum has been banished! Im lucky enough to live 20 mins from afan and the riding is still great but just a bit limited at the mo. trail building will resume once logging has been completed!

As a gp i agree with the above. Non weight bearing hips in toddlers need referral! Could be transient synovits or more unlikely septic arthritis. Very unusual for toddlers not to weight bear, id be sending that one in!

Air ambulances for injured people who ride beyond their ability in remote areas? Surely you should get insurance cover for that.

Complications of cosmetic surgery performed overseas by cowboys? In fact any complications of bungled cosmetic surgery by non trained personnel in private clinics.

It is nearly impossible to get any cosmetic surgery done on the nhs. My wife is a plastic surgeon and she does virtually no cosmetic work, it is all cancer related and reconstruction after cancer surgery and trauma.

As for those saying no gastric bands, it seems that gastric bands and bypasses are cheaper than treating the complications of morbid obesity long term.

The problem is that everyone is selfish about their own healthcare. Cuts need to happen but you try telling someone who wants the nhs to pay for their sex change that we need to prioritise cancer ops etc. they will be straight down to their nearest lawyer complaining of breaches to their human rights.

Good lbs, never ordered online from them as i live approx halfway between their stores. They also pricematched their online price for shimano winter boots last year when i queried the difference last year.

I have had nothing but good service from them instore, advice re bikes etc. i would happily buy a new bike from them.

Sad to hear their web service isnt so good.

Tragic sad news. Wales are on the verge of good things and he leaves a wife and young family. So sad. Something awful must have happnned in his life to trigger this. Condolences to his family. Hopefully the young welsh team can achieve great things in his memory. Rip speedo.

Its a bloody nightmare tj tbh. It sounds like a simple prob to fix, but not easy to do so.People cheat all kinds of stuff. Blue badges, council tax rebates etc.! If i feel a patient is trying to defraud the system i let them know about it. Many dont.

I dont think an outside agency could sort difficult cases any better than gps! If you are that determined to mislead professionals to obtain benefits , then you will beat the outside assessor/appeal the decision/develop a new condition and go back on the sick etc. this all costs loads so the role will remain with gps!

    Hear hear stoatsbrother!

Being the benefit police and being an empathic and supportive doc are not 2 roles which a gp can provide!

As for the independent dwp assessments, i cant imagine that job attracts a high calibre of applicants. Would you really want to spend all day assessing someones ability to work? Nightmare job! Thankless task! If anyone on here does this for a living im sorry if ive caused any offence.

And i aggree, exactly who is going to employ someone who has been on the sick for 10-20 years. Loads of these folks are unemployable! Must be some people who run private businesses on here. Would you take on someone who is 45 and never worked?

    doctornickriviera

I aggree! Abuse is rife! These peple arent stupid and know how to play the system! If one doc says no they will go and see another! Impossible to police. Good luck to whoever takes on this role!

Hello hello , your at a place called vertigo!

    doctornickriviera

I would love to not do this any more!

There are so many blaggers out there who feel incapacity is a right. I saw someone yesterday who asked me if i could go on the sick so they could get some extra cash! I ignored their request

Lots of my colleagues never challenge their claims for an easy life

Savvy patients know exactly what to say to us to get signed off! The implications to myself of calling a patient a liar simply arent worth it – even vexatious complaints are a mare to sort. Its very hard to prove a patient isnt depressed for example.

Stems back to the 80s when millions were put on the sick to massage down unemployment stats!

I aggree though- take it off our hands, id rather deal with real medical probs than skivers!

I also see alot of people who genuinely cannot work due to sickness getting refused help!

I imagine any replacement service will cost more to the taxpayer than it saves!

It does seem to me though that most of my colleagues Rarely challenge sick note requests to avoid patient upset and confrontation.

Yes and maybe if he was driving within the speed limit he could have avoided the collision….maybe the cyclist was at fault……i aggree that if you go under the wheels of a lorry you are toast whatever the speed it is travelling at. Very sad.

i have seen lorry v cyclist outcomes in a+e and its not pretty. i know some people on singletrack like to make a fight out of most threads they enter, but i feel the law needs to be stronger top protect the most vulnerable road users, whether that be cyclists, pedestrians horseiders etc.

    doctornickriviera

i know what you are saying njee but unless examples are made of people who kill other road uses whilst breaking the law, the standard of driving in this country will never improve.

i know the facts but also know the lorry driver was speeding and talking on the phone how is that not dangerous driving??. Maybe other witnesses not reported in the article did see the poor lad pull out in front of the lorry without looking.

i know i dont have the full facts but seriously you get prison for stealing trainers in a riot but probably scot free for this!! ridiculous.

Oh and with my customer service “experiences ” with mazda , i wouldnt buy a petrol one either. !!!!

And for the record my wife has a 2l tdi a3 sportback which she has done 125000 miles in and not had any dpf issues to date!

    doctornickriviera

I loved my mazda 6 until about 65k . Since then it has been a catalogue of problems with the emissions systems and sensors! The dpf is a nightmare… I believe it was on watchdog recently as it can kill the car. Mazda wont admit a problem or recall despite there obviously being an issue. The dealers in my area are a right shower too! Unfortunately mazda has made it very difficult for the independents to access and reset the ecu on the car forcing you into very expensive> £1k trips to the dealers to get dpf issues sorted. Ive had various sensors changed – maf twice and fuel/air sensors but the dpf light keeps on coming on.

So do not buy a diesel mazda 6 estate! It will not do mega miles and its very hard to get issues fixed by the independent garages as independents struggle to reset the ecu.

If i was looking for a 2nd hand diesel estate id go for a 2006 or earlier pre dpf vw passat diesel . See this months what car – they reccomend it because it has no dpf on the 1.9 tdi. To quote what car magazine… “One benefit of buying this age of passat is that the car comes without a particulate filter which helps to cut potential reliability issues”

Dpfs faults are currently an industry wide issue. Its a shame because otherwise my 6 estate (2006) is a great car and i was hoping to get 150 k miles out of it. Now im looking for a new car and seriously considering a hyundai or toyota estate as they have a 5 year warranty.

So my mazda 6 is again at the dealers. Im getting it fixed and then getting rid. I wont sell it on here because i dont want to land you all with a dud. I will never buy another mazda!

I know! Fix sell and never buy another mazda!
