    yeah

depending on fitness you can ride straight accross margam mountain and link up with the penhydd trail at afan

    that makes a good ride

I tend to chuck the bike in the car and drive to afan/ glyncorrwg tbh.

You could also try asking on mtbwales.com for routes

    Hi
Get a good os map and explore
I’ve had a good look up there and there is alot of fireroad and several motocross trails up there – some rideable others not

What sort of riding are you looking for – it’s mainly xc up there, nothing too technical.

I have just bought a discovery- bought it today. i will let you know if it fits securely when i try it out at the weekend.

Fork mounts don’t invalidate warranties and even if they do how are they going to know it’s been fork mounted

yep hayes strokers on my mount vision – nightmare to align!

    doctornickriviera

this is a bloody nightmare dick

There don’t seem to be any carriers which can clamp round the down tube

    thule proride no
    atera giro no
the bolt through forks are qr 15 and there don’t appear to be any carriers with adaptors for these yet

I e-mailed atb sales a few months ago re this and they suggested

    http://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=8&sku=594

which is great but it is not available in the uk. I did phone thule uk about it and they said it was a US model.

so i don’t think you’ll see many mount visions on the roofs of cars i’m afraid as there doesnt seem to be a rack that fits!!

    mine goes in the boot!

I have just bought a mont blanc discovery which looks promising as discussed before here

to be honest i’m not surprised your bp was a bit up if the doc struggled to take it. Just go back and get it checked again, you don’t need to see a doc a practice nurse can do it for you.

staying inside and making cups of tea should be banned. Think of all the burns caused by pourover scalds/hot kettles/ lacerations caused by broken china. we should only drink water from plastic receptacles

A family tragedy and not a national one. It should have been kept there.

    No

i already wear one after one too many heelside edge head ice interfaces. it’s my free choice to wilfully protect myself from injury!

However yet again this is a family and not a national tragedy.

seems most of this cock up has been caused by managers manipulating targets set by the government. Targets should not be placed in healthcare as they will always be manipulated by hospitals to meet them- seems the 4hr wait in a+e was manipulated here to the detriment of patient care- another nice one by nu-labour. i qualified when new labour came to power and was really hopeful they would improve the NHS for all – staff and patients alike. sadly things have got worse not better through constant and often unecessary change and obsession with targets. It seems now we are treating targets not patients which leaves me as a medic completely disillusioned.

I have no idea what hereford bike shops are like but i reccomend you pop over the border to abergavenny. 3 good bike shops- M+D/ gateway and bikebase cover nearly all brands and M+D supply marin and specialized plus are top blokes too. I have recently bought a mount vision off em and couldnt reccomend them higher.

So about 20 miles away and you get the bonus of a visit to wales- enuff said!

Anyway enough dentist bashing and i don’t want to come over as holier that thou etc. I really do hope however that the government invest in NHS dentistry in the long term. Wouldnt it be great if it became freely available to all so those dentists which have abandoned the nhs through greed ( and i know that’s not all of you meeee) suddenly have to return cap in hand to the NHS. My family has an NHS dentist but we have to drive 15-20 miles to see them, fine for us but not great for those without cars/disabled etc.

It’s sad that i do my job for the benefit of my patients and that

a lot of dentists went private for good common sense business reasons!

. I’m glad i don’t exclude treatment for those who can’t pay, I sleep easier with that ethos. Don’t get me wrong my job is financially and professionally rewarding ( but I don’t earn anyway near £100k as a full time salaried GP!!)and i wouldnt do anything else, but it is morally wrong to opt out of treating those who can’t afford it. the BDA negotiated your contract and if as a profession dentists are not happy with it you should renegotaite it rather than punish your patients. And I know general practice isnt perfect but at least we are open to all

Hmm maybe that’s why I went to medical and not dental school!

Ok phone your primary care trust or local health board in wales to obtain a list of local dentists who accept NHS patients

But this privatisation of dental care really pisses me off. Dentists should not be allowed to fully opt out of the NHS. Fine see some private patients if you wish. as a GP I am fed up of seeing dental probs in my surgery because ALL of the dentists in my town have gone private. Can you imagine the outcry if general practice went the same way. Dentists are being privatised by stealth and it’s the disadvateaged who are suffering through poor dental care

Queensland is great. i spent a year in cairns and townsville and whilst neither city is up to much there is loads great nearby.

Port douglas is lovely great beach and the drive from cairns to port douglas is stunning. I would avoid Kuranda- it’s a bit of a tip imo. If you sail hire a boat around the whitsundays- absolutely beautiful- find beach drop anchor and feel the motion of the ocean- perfect for honeymooners!

Mission beach is nice too, Townsville is ok but not great, and cape tribulation has a pretty beach but it’s a bit backpacker dropout

Further south i would reccomend fraser island, magnetic island ( hire a mokedeathtrap!), noosa and the sunshine coast maroochydore and maloolabal were really nice when i was there. I thought the gold coast was a bit of a tip- confirmed by a theatre with val doonican in concert! Byron bay is nice but a hippy dropout! The sunshine coast hinterland is nice too- glasshouse mountains/lamington mmmmmmm lamingtons!!!!!

Hope you enjoy, i need to go back someday cos i absolutely love the place

get it checked properly by your GP or practice nurse.
If still high get a few readings done over a month or so to confirm the diagnosis.

If persistantly > 150/90 you probably need treatment.

If borderline your GP may refer you for ambulatory monitoring.

routine investigations usually include, renal function, fasting glucose and lipid profiles, full blood count and gamma gt( to make sure your not a dipsoholic). I would normally arrange an ecg also.
