Ardent up front and high roller at the rear?

I’d switch them. Stickers make no difference but this might.

Just make sure the saddle is horizontal and all will be well.

Looks like it’s owned by a student like that.

well, I think that has been debated many many times over on here. It’s always good to have the law on your side when a miserable old gimmer shouts at you for giving cyclists a bad name etc.

As it happens I’ve never ever ridden it. So I’m up for it, although I’m hoping its slightly better than the new Big Moor route. As good as it is to get a new route…it’s so dull. Feels like it was for the horsey crowd, they love a boring monotonous hack.

Any news on the Longshaw concessions linking to it. Was first talked about happening last year but has gone very quiet.

How naughty is the FP that passes through Brookfield Manor and onto Baulk Lane

Given it becomes a driveway and then a road half way down I don’t think it is at all naughty. I don’t go that way very often but when I do I take this option. The path through North Lees is I think a permissive BW. Although the signage is woeful, i.e. missing. So might not be.

But rather than going up to the gliding club, best going via Offerton Hall and Shatton. Perhaps.

11 years of Spds and after a nasty accident showing off in front of my kids I decided to ditch them. I’ve ridden flats since and after a few rides I was totally sold. Don’t often catch my shins any more. Was doing at first but yeah…MTFU.

And I’ve been using my Specialized defrosters, which you wouldn’t think would work on flats but have been great this winter. There are very few times I wish I had spds and the postives massively out weigh the negatives. I’ve re-discovered my confidence levels from my youth.

Champery is switzerland so might be more expensive than a French town. I started in Champery, nice big lift with zero q’s to the top but then I had accomodation at a mates and it was gratis.

Its bad for 2 reasons, you’re relying on their ability to follow closely without touching your wheel and causing a crash, and if you dont know they’re there you cant warn them of potholes, debris, changes of speed/direction, etc, resulting in a crash.

But if you do know they are there, but they haven’t had the decency to say they are there. it’s ok to try and make them crash by obscuring pot holes? Crazy.

Doesn’t slipstreaming aid the lead rider by reducing the low pressure zone behind him. Even if it didn’t, I don’t get why it’s so bad.

It smacks of play ground politics to me.

I recently did the full Penmachno loop, endless singletrack (good) with very little in the way of challenge (bad) apart from the biblical amounts of surface water.

I enjoyed it but Marin is better. But then it’s all subjective. You’ll enjoy both I’m sure.

Slight hijack, but which mattress you go for? Not got a load to spend, so was going to get the Origins Pocket 1500 + base.

    Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 Kingsize

Does depend on your physical attributes though. Great mattress even though its at the lower end. Can’t see why I would need to spend more.

These don’t do tv beds, just quality mattresses and advice.

It didn’t rain much last Sunday but I have never been so wet riding a bike as I was riding round Penmachno. Took 3 days for my boots to dry out on the radiator. But it was still great to get out. However, I don’t have the enthusiasm for the muddy peaks today.

Also been reported to the police.

My Avid rear brake did the same, would pull air in at the lever when pulling on the syringe. I got rid and replaced with deore and not had a moments bother.

Crowne plaza city was very nice last December, might be out of the way a bit, depends what you are planning on doing. But not really, all relative.

Have you tried those cous cous packets then? cheap, quick & tasty

No on principal. I suspect you are right on two counts. However, the op is excused on the grounds of not having an oven this evening.

I’ve just placed an order. Kind of thing I keep meaning to sort out but never got round to it, thanks for the timely nudge.

Now I need some mud guards and then I really will be all sorted.

I don’t quite get the logic of this but why not park at the top of the hill? Like redmires or ringinglow. Got to save time over riding it?

Now I’ve read it again I do. Doh

I tried and failed to get my High Roller off a flow rim in the summer, dreading it when it ACTUALLY HAS to come off. I just wanted to adjust the logo valve alignment after a poor effort by JE JAMES. 1st world problems.

Any tips appreciated to avoid more broken levers!

I worked there for well over a decade between the steel works and sewage place where they literally pile up human waste for fun.. It’s proper grim.
The commute from west sheffield is a total pain if working normal office hours. Some nice villages on the edge of the Pennines to the north which is where I’d look, countryside and a speedy commute in. Out to the east it’s good for roadies as it can often be dry when the peaks are wet. But then I’d still prefer the drizzle in the peak.

Mind you sheffield has seen better days, the town centre is a disgrace.

For just the travelling bit? If it is important to you then yes, if you can cope otherwise then no.

Only you can make this choice.

I binned it on the Monsal trail today, wheelieing and showing off to the kids with a heavy rucksack that took me backwards as i shifted up clipped in. I wasn’t drunk just very stupid.

However, I’ve decided i’m going to go with flats, silver lining to a painful spill.

    Hope you mend soon.

Well that was considerably easier than I had imagined. And soooo much better than those hateful avids.

I’ve still got some hose trimming to do when the olive arrives but will do for now.

My first bike was a 1989 Raleigh Montage. Don’t remember it being particularly great, especially the rear u-brake under the chain stay. I liked the colour though, spearmint green.
I do still have it and its infinitely superior successor, a 91 Clockwork Orange.
