And this looks like a pretty accessible path, and all that goes doubly for people with pushchairs etc

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pushchair on there or ever likely to but you never know. Not sure I’ve ever seen a horse either but that might change now. I rode it a couple of weeks ago and it was a bit sticky, in the summer it will be fine and quite fast. It was getting seriously eroded and not much fun on anything but the driest of days.I think its an improvement and I appreciate the work done here.

Likewise with the permissive bridleway linking devils elbow, I use Blackamoor so much more now. RideSheffield get my vote, some more permissives wouldn’t go a miss as the network is still totally disjointed.

I tried everything on here bar the linux trick and nothing worked. I tried one last thing and that was to restore to before the last windows update from microsoft and that fixed it.

Only problem now is I have a PCIe gigabit card I don’t need. Might see it in the classifieds…for a couple of quid!

I wouldn’t class that as user error, more like microsoft, well it makes me feel better anyhow. Cheers for all the advice, learnt a couple of things.

Well I don’t run dhcp on this desktop because I want the ip to be reliably fixed and it connects quicker; it’s a pretty simple way of achieving this and nothing to do with why the adaptor is not working suddenly.

Regarding ip address, the adaptor never got as far as an ip address. Querying with ipconfig said it was in a disconnected state. I’m pretty sure it’s knackered. A friend said he had a similar issue and a windows rebuild sorted it but I think I’d rather add a new nic for a tenner than rebuild to find that doesn’t work. I ordered a new nic last night.

no, just the icon in the system tray with a red cross after thinking about it for 30 or seconds.

/release / renew doesn’t work as its not got that far.

1 green light on full, one flickering but slowly on the rj45. I have no idea what that means.

The other thing which makes me think the electronics have gone is the last couple of months or so its been slower to connect to the network, way after the desktop has loaded, now it’s really slow..infinitely slow.

Static as in, outside my dhcp range and specified in the adaptor. I tried dhcp, i also tried as suggested :
uninstalling the drivers and applied new ones from the vendor site (acer)
rebooting the router (that was the first thing)
    re-enabling the adaptor

but alas no joy. Think I had better start shopping for a new card before the wife blames me.

I have two small pci slots so I think I need something like this

    http://www.ebuyer.com/229048-startech-10-100-pcie-network-card-pex100s

    13 Notes, could be worse.

    Cheers for the advice.

I wasn’t suggesting I’d falsify but wondered how onerous the process was. As it happens, i bet my interest earned is less than a whole pound.

So this information you have to collect, do they take your word or do you have to provide evidence? For example, interest earned on bank accounts and donating to charities. I sense a whole other thread closer to the time.

Ok, well may be it is not so bad. Still not looking forward to it. Cheers for the information though.

And the other thing i hate is I’m now forced to do self assessment along with many others. What a royal PITA. For a person on PAYE this is sheer lunacy.

Slightly OT but I hate this triple dip nonesense. Look at the graph, it is nothing of the sort it is merely flat lining with slight micro variation of a fraction of a percent.

no. Still at least the kids graduating in 2015 will have a warm glow safe in the knowledge that their extra 10% tax will have been well spent.

How strong is the wireless reception and are you converting the format before streaming or playing the native encoding, see the options in the console. (native would use less cpu) Can you bung it on another machine on the network and stream from there?

I’ve had some issues with it but I think they are due to my dlna blue ray player. Normally works fine…but not always.

I think I see your mistake. I too like the Duchy one.

I use serviio[/url] (infrequently) but it works as a dlna server. Website says it works with xbox too and the important bit is it’s free.

Sounds just like me, this is week 5 and its eased somewhat. I’ve been out today in the frost and ice but can still can feel the left rib. Mine were fine after I fell off, rode back up over kinder and Jacobs but the following day I realised something was up. Having crashed on a Sunday morning; the pain got worse and the following Thursday/Friday were the worst two days, since then it has eased and I’ve been able to cope. I notice it most turning over in bed. Suspect mine are/were cracked but don’t actually know.

For this year they are improving the road surface to facilitate 2 ascents in one stage. No idea when that will be complete by except before July obviously.

It wouldn’t even make it to Feb half term. Why are you even looking at this? so obvious its wrong.

No escaping a bit of road really as although the proximity is close, the legal rights of way are totally disjointed and a complete source of frustration for not just me I imagine. High neb , stanage edge would make a fantastic gateway into out of the peaks and be safer than the A57.

That first option you can climb up out of Ecclesall woods, behind Bikdale school sports field and drop into porter valley or drop into porter valley from stanage pole. Stanage Pole would be quickest which is my normal route home. Rivelin has some great cheeky but porter valley takes you closest to the station ending in endcliffe park.

It’s probably just me but it looks like the forks/frame are bent. I know they aren’t. I might get used to it with time.

I pulled my lower back 20 mins into my ride this morning but kept going thinking it might get better, it didn’t. Now I can’t put socks on or get out of the chair without pain. Still it was a lovely ride in the peaks.

i’ve got bt openreach fibre through talktalk. The service is rock solid, i use it for work during the day and since a hardware upgrade to the openreach modem I can remember only 1 blip and non since the router was upgraded a month ago.

However, I stream iplayer through a sony bdp-570 and it used to be good but i can rarely watch anything without it buffering. Once it buffers unless you reset the programme it continues to buffer and the download speed slows to snails pace. I gave up lovefilm because that was worse. I think this is an iplayer implementation issue and not my broadband. seems to get worse as iplayer gets more popular. 2 years ago it was super.

We stayed in the Youth Hostel about 2 miles away if that, was very good, bike storage, bike wash and the lady who looks after the place is very friendly. And of course cheap and cheerful. But don’t expect a lie in, keenos in YHS like to get up early and talk loudly about over paying their mortgages and the current MPG of the Audi A4. yawn.

all the motion was in blocks. However the very same clips repeated on the outro with music were wonderfully clear. Such was the difference I went back to double check. I wonder if the bit rate increases at 8pm. There was one episode last week which was markedly worse than the others too.

Is it just me or was the ITV4 bit rate woefully bad this evening? Spoilt the episode for me, or is my humax on the blink?

I’d probably watch on the the main boulevard, I’ve changed my mind since looking closely at the timings. I was thinking about going to the top on the backroad rue pape jean because it would be easy to park. But if the whole family are going, stick with the town I’d say.

    doctorgnashoidz

The timings suggest it will be passing though the main Boulevard Léon Gambetta which has a gradient and a lot of tree shade but won’t slow them down much. Cahors can be difficult to park at the best of times.

    How old are the kids?

The D820 to the north is the old main road to Paris, wide and smooth and not that steep but climbs to a decent height. It’ll be peleton tastic that early in the race.

I know the area really really well. On the rare occasion they go this way they normally run along the Lot valley to the East past the beautiful St Cirq but not this year. So I’d go for the climb to the North of Cahors if it was me. I’ll be in that area a couple of days after they pass through so I won’t be there.

I gave up with love film streaming after 2 months and went back to discs in the post.
Mainly due to poor content and freezing issues on my Sony BD570. I soon grew tired of the kids screaming “it’s stopped again daddy!” BBC Iplayer has no such issues on the same device so I imagine the implementation isn’t the greatest.

I don’t think I managed a full film on stream either. The idea is great but it just didn’t deliver for me.

I’ve still got my 1991 XT in original orange and white (it had its 21st birthday yesterday) as a shop bike. Currently sporting a terrible cheap suntour chainset which messes up the chainline and looks even worse until I can source something more in keeping.
