So glad my kids have grown up and I don’t need to go back to centre parcs ever again.
I’ve had two vaguely similar experiences. Once pre-kids staying in a bed and breakfast guesthouse somewhere in North Yorkshire the landlady had warned us not to over fill the (big enough for two) corner bath as the overflow wasn’t connected. We ignored this advice and we were interrupted by the landlady banging on the bathroom door cos soapy water was dripping onto the china on the Welsh dresser. Felt a bit sheepish over breakfast.
Second was a few years ago in an airbnb in Barcelona with daughter who would’ve been mid teens at the time. She was used to spending a long time in the shower. Followed her into the bathroom and there was 3 inches of water in the floor… 3rd storey up I think.

Re the op if not satisfied hit them wear it hurts by not returning!

John copper Clarke is also playing the devils arse in castleton in a couple of weeks but I think we will be to the get together 1 day festival thing instead

Teleman last night were great. I think I must have seen them at a festival in the past but can’t really remember it. Great in a medium sized venue though.

Turns out I’ve got a spare ticket for the bug club @bodega Nottingham tonight. Got it for my wife’s pal who lives in nott but forgot to tell her so she’s in a yurt somewhere.

If anyone wants to pop down I’m they will be on stage in 2 hours so best shout. Fave value £13. Sold out I believe

Yup Jackie hasn’t been on stage with Paul for a while. Shame. It’s not the same without her.

This thread is giving me the proper heebie jeebies thinking back to December when I did mine. I managed to get flu about ten days in and every cough and sneeze felt like another massive boot in the ribs. I had to take a day off work the week before Christmas and missed a gig I was looking forward to so it must’ve been horrific. Hoovered up all the pain killers I could find in the house initially- some codeine from when I sliced my knee open in 2017 but they went out of date before covid so not sure they did much. After a bit though I think opiates were making me feel worse so I stuck to paracetamol and ibuprofen for a few weeks.
My wife was away the weekend it happened and still thinks I fell down the stairs! Who would be foolish enough to go mtbing in deep fresh snow!

As always, the answer is “it depends”
Broke one skiing years ago. Pain gone after 6 weeks.
But broke a few 11/12/22 coming off in the snow landing hard on my back. Hurt a lot for 8-9 weeks and didn’t ride for a month. Now 4 1/2 months in it only hurts if I roll onto that side in bed or need to push up on that side from lying. There is a palpable lump on several ribs and I think my rib cage is a different shape to before. Riding is definitely fine though.

To be fair now that I think about it, I’ve never eaten more than a bag of crisps in the Rutland.
They do have great beer though.
kommune and cutlery works are obvious easy options. I find them a bit soulless though. Not sure I’m the target demographic TBH.

Very nice. I have one in red. I agree raw looks great. Nukeproof reactor alloy 27.5 chainstay protector fits perfectly with a tiny bit of rubber removed if you want something more robust than the one you have

My now wife lived above Indian chef in crookes for a year early 90s. Had to walk past some sort of wooden outhouse where they kept ingredients of some type or other to get to the entrance to their flat. We didn’t eat there often funnily enough.
As a student we used to like the Bombay off west st. Once I recall some trouble kicking off and chefs running out the back brandishing sharp stuff. Another time I was woken at the table at the end of the night by one of the staff telling me my taxi was here. I then got in his car and he gave me a lift home. I presumably gave him a fiver or whatever the going rate to walkley was in 1989.

I think if I was the op and presuming it’s not too far to divert to I’d book Ashoka. Only eaten their once and it is pricey but probably a better experience than the usual subjects

I wouldn’t bother with Kommune. Not with a dozen people or more. It’s really noisy and not a great atmosphere. Maybe I’m just old.

Came here to say Balti king. Beaten to it.

    Don’t go to balti king!

We quite like prithi Raj on Eccy rd. Ashoka also has a great reputation. My wife likes urban choola. I’m not so keen.

Central Sheffield I’m not so up to date on. Butlers Balti house will always fit a large group in. Or Seven spices which is handy for the Shakespeare.

I rang my bell multiple times on Sunday on the curbar/froggatt edge path in the peak. All was fab. No problems at all. Even the group of DofE practice kids walking 3 abreast carrying rucksacks twice the size of themselves filtered into single file on the left as I rolled past.

Was giving my younger sister an education about the soup dragons and that 85-95 pre Brit pop Glasgow scene. Looked up their wiki to see they’re reforming to tour this autumn. She told me I’m old… so what?!

I couldn’t resist any longer and bought a ticket for tbc at the white hotel in 2 weeks. Less than £15 all in. Much more like it

Excellent. I’ve just bought tickets to see black honey and heartworms on Sunday night at Sheff uni. Looking forward to a small venue gig again after last weekend. Let me know what you think @johnjn2000

I’m still mulling over bug club at the white hotel Salford on the 14th. Didn’t get tickets because going away next day… but flights not till 2pm so seems rude not to. Might have to go on my own though!

So, lets say I went for that 170mm Brand X.
Need 285 to the seat rails so I would have 115 sticking out of the seat tube full time

kind of… but stack height is not the same as drop. There is the height of the collar (27mm for brand x) and the distance from top of shaft to rails. Total 🟰 probably 55mm? Think of a fully dropped dropper. The seat rails are not touching the seat tube.
so I think you’d have about 60mm  of seatpost visible under the collar with either a 180 one up or 170 bx. Nixie’s link illustrates this nicely

    docrobster
    Free Member

It will fit but not with the collar touching the frame. The link says 267 insertion length needed for it to be fully slammed. For your pedalling height with rails 285 above the seat tube you’ll have 70mm below the collar outside the frame. Total length of that post is 480. You have 510 to play with (285 outside and 225 inside the frame). Next size up in a one up would be too long. I think a brandx 200 would be too long but a 170 ok for abut less £££

Height adjustable in this circumstance means the maximum drop can be adjusted  (reduced) internally so a 240mm drop post can be adjusted to 230.

I did the maths on this with one up droppers. I had a 180 drop post in my 420mm seat tube. There was 60mm under the collar so in theory I can swap it for a 240mm drop post. But… the longer post is longer under the collar as well as above and I would need to run it slammed. The minimum insertion of the 240 post is 337mm. There wasn’t quite 337mm of space in my frame between the top of the seat tube and the cable entry point. So I would need to have about 5-10mm of post out of the frame. I could still use the post by adding a spacer inside to reduce its fully extended height by 10mm. So I’d still be able to pedal with it all the way up.

in the end I got a brandx 200mm post. It has a thicker collar and so about 25mm out of the frame. I can’t imagine needing more drop!
it was also half the cost of a one up.

Measure the distance from cable port to top of seat tube and add this to your 285 to give max total post length. I suspect anything apart from a one up 240 will be fine. Your seat tube may be a bit short for the longest post.
Dimensions are all here- brandx also publish theirs.

Yes that Skoda with the 1.4 tsi will be due a cambelt on its 5th birthday ie now. Recently had it done on my 67 plate kodiaq. Currently on about 75k miles I think. Was quoted £499 but when I dropped it off to be fine I was informed it had gone up to I think £629. I paid the lower price of course. Also had a coolant leak requiring a new thermostat. Another £500.
Skoda will sell you a 2 year warranty and roadside assistance for it that includes 2 services and mots and costs £100 or so more than the main dealer service costs. Think it’s on cars 3-6 years old and <100k miles. Would’ve covered my thermostat and paid for itself instantly. If only I’d known… have signed up now for the piece of mind as I intend to keep it at least another 2-3 years

When I saw self esteem last week one person in the audience held their phone up with the torch on. She stopped and told them to switch it off. Said “it’s not a Coldplay gig”. I do love her.

A friend of mine is looking at buying a bike and keeps selling me links to marketplace to ask what I think. My usual response is- I have no idea, what size is the bike, what model and year (cos the listing doesn’t say and the pictures are rubbish)…

It doesn’t help that he’s been looking at Boardman hybrids and there’s a lot of rubbish to filter through.

This is still for sale- anyone know what it is cos the seller doesn’t…

Saw Loyle Carner supported by wulu last night at the Victoria warehouse in Salford as part of th 6 music festival thing. Wore my newly acquired 6music dad hat. I remembered why I don’t like gigs at big venues. Shit beer. Luckily I was driving so only had one pint. The crowd were completely uninterested in wulu then watched Loyle through the massive bright phone screens. Woman in front of us thought it was ok to FaceTime her mate and hold her phone up so she could watch. Morons.
wulu I have seen before and I like. They seem hard to pigeonhole. Gave it everything despite the crowd of 16 year olds mostly chatting and texting through their slot.
Loyle was amazing. Such a poet.

I’ve just had an email from octopus. The electric standing charge is increasing to 54p a day. The usage is decreasing to 32p per kWh. Gas s/c decreasing a penny a day, price per kWh stays the same. Bills predicted to reduce by about £24 a year. £21 of that is the electricity going down.

Re direct debits. I have one set up to pay the monthly bill amount in full. Bulb took it out on the 15th of the same month. Looks like octopus are taking it out on the first of the next month. So I’ve had a month off fuel bills this month.

We’ve had several freesat boxes over the years since we ditched sky. Last one has a hdd in to record stuff on.
However the user experience is pants compared to the Samsung tv with built in freesat we bought about 3 years ago. TV is fast and only needs one remote. Box and tv and firestick needed to get decent streaming- slow, three remotes. Hard to switch between inputs:- unhappy wife, bamboozled mother in law.
We never record stuff as everything can be streamed but I have plugged in an old hdd that came out of a laptop when I upgraded to ssd in order to “pause live tv”.
Wont be going back to a separate box any time soon.

We just got moved from bulb to octopus.
On the pay monthly variable tariff- so as to avoid going into credit by several hundred pounds every year- ours is:

    Electric 33.01p/kWh and 49.55p/day

    Gas 10.24p/kWh and 28.48p/day

if it’s a lot cheaper to set up a monthly DD at a fixed amount again I might look at that in a few months.

Also bulb advertised prices excluded vat according octopus

I have a probably more than 10 year old lezyne mini pulp that goes in my camelback podium as above and also in a small alpkit top tube tool bag that I sometimes use. It did get notchy at one point and improved with a touch of light grease. Hardly ever need to use it since tubeless tyres got good. Never been a fan of co2.

    It looks lovely.

The review says 32lb size large £6.5k

My alu aether9 cost £3.5k to build. Has the same geometry give or take. (M/L same reach 10mm shorter seat tube and 5mm shorter chainstay) and weighs 33.7lb on my scales with sensible build kit including some pedals. Pike ultimates deore 11 speed 180 bx dropper etc

I’d love to try one to see what all the fuss is about.

    It does look lovely.

I also have a last bike but unfortunately it’s my hardtail.
A fast forward frame I bought 3rd hand for £50 that looks like dogshit as it’s so rusty now the paint has all peeled off. Still rides great though so happy enough.

Interesting points about customers with vouchers bought for them leaving bad reviews.
I recently stayed in a hotel I didn’t choose. It was booked with a voucher purchased by my brother in law. Long story short but his wife my sister has become seriously ill and in the run up to being diagnosed they had to postpone a booking as she was in hospital. The voucher was supposed to expire at the end of December but he had spoken to someone at head office who said it could be used for a booking in late feb due to the circumstances. As it happened in early feb my sister got a diagnosis of multiple myeloma so they offered us the booking. It was handy as it was nearer to where they live and we were able to take their 17 year old daughter and our daughter with us for the night to try and help relieve some of the stress- so we booked another room ourselves for the girls.
So at checking in time, the room I’ve paid for no problem. The room booked in another person’s name- well he had emailed me the wrong thing just the hotel confirmation not the actual voucher which I had to get him to send me a link to. I didn’t know it had “expired” till we were at the front desk of the hotel. The staff there new nothing and had to contact the central reservations team to ok it etc. So yes, we were a PITA.
The hotel was lovely but I don’t leave online reviews as a rule. As it’s STW though I’ll recommend it- telegraph hotel in Coventry if you really have to go (or get sent to) cov, I’d say it’s a good place to sleep.
