As with most things the more you buy the cheaper it is, we bought 2 tons of coal in 50kg loose bags to get the best discount, also got a ton of wood briquettes as well but thats for our boiler.

    Mixed Ovoids
Premium quality large manufactured briquette. Can be used on open fires and stoves. Long lasting, easily controllable, high heat source.

Was a bit annoyed they don’t still do an own braynd Dremel type thing; had one for years had loads of abuse, was only £15 or something. Dremel’s are overpriced imo.

    Silverline Dremel Type Thing

But it is Silverline and I dont have much faith in them, may be worth a try or see if you can find a review online.

big bundle of assorted plywood offcuts what I got for free!

Nice one, good on them, too many big chains would rather throw stuff away rather than give it away. I might go for a sniff around my local one, hope they have a marco.

grantway – Thanks for the warning, I’m fairly sure the door is just wood it’s fairly new, I just assume it was a fire door due to the weight, I’ll give it an exploratory later today.

Elfin, if you’ve got a timber merchant nearby it’s worth giving them a once over as they often are cheaper than B&Q, my local merchant has given me a 10% off card and they have a VAT free Saturday every few weeks, I’ve got a long list of wood and boards I’m going to get on the next VAT free day. They delivery for free and do a good range of tools and finishes as well, good brands like Osmo, and Sikkens. Worth a look.

Brilliant! When you gonna unveil what you’ve been working on or do we have to wait for the patent to got through? 😆

I’m halfway though my work bench using an old fire door that was left when we moved in, I’m going to fit the table saw into it so I have a large saw to make even bigger projects!, tool box is on the cards I’ve bought the protective metal corners so I have to make it now, tables shelving, weird plywood things that are in my head inspired by the topo table back on page 1 or 2. More kitchen units, big picture frames for album covers (I got the glass for them last week) I’m possessed by the wood devil and I like it.

Want to get going on the next idea now! Need to pace meself though…

Thats just what I’m like, I just want to keep making things and doing it NOW, I keep thinking of new things and ways to do things and looking at tools and woodworking stuff on the web, my job is defo suffering now I’m too easily distracted and I know what I’d rather be doing! I have to try to calm down a bit but it’s so addictive 😀

Poll tax riot in trafalgar square, and lots more before probably, just that they get lots of free media attention now, for the great unwashed ,on the 24 hour news channels, playing the same vid of some yoof smashing a few windows, or shouting.

I went along to the Stop the City ‘demos’ in 84 & 85 through involvement with Crass and Class War, it was always going to kick off that was pretty much the aim of it really. Smoke bombs and groups everywhere being hassled and hassling the old bill, we got kettled in at the Bank on Mansion house steps, I think that must have been one of the first times the police used kettling.

All I am trying to do is make a start & see if it’s something I am interested in; not necessarily cabinet making, but just general woodwork so I can get to a standard that will allow me to knock out some decent quality items…

Thats like me, I wanted 2 small kitchen units not a standard size, the quotes I got were crazy prices. So I thought I’d make them myself and then some of money I save I’d spend on the tools, I bought a table saw a router and a router table of ebay a few other bits (clamps 35mm drill bit for the door hinges etc) and just went for it. I’m pleased with the results and were good fun to make. The worktop I got off a mate for doing a website for his slate buisness.

Now I have the tools I’ve a growing list of things I want to make, this thread made the list expand rapidly and I defo want some birch ply now!

This started off as a spice rack that just grew, all done with the table saw including the dado joints.

I had some studding knocking about so I bunged it in.

If I have (for example) an 8 x 8 hole, how do I get a 9 x 9 piece of wood behind it????? Or do I use two x 9 x 3 pieces of wood and a third 8 x 8 pice on top of them? I suppose that would work.

Depends how much gap you have behind, dont need to much to angle a longer than hole piece of wood through or cut a small groove for wood at side of hole and move wood to side to fix. Basically bodge it!

Glue with gripfix rather than screw IMO, be stronger.

Turn it into a door way to next door or what ever’s on the other side or hang a picture over it.

The control stat is protected from failing by the high limit stat. Unlucky if they’ve both failed, try the turning them down and you’ll might them hear them click as they switch, if not you could put your meter across them to see if they are closed or open on ohms or beeper if it has one.

Check they are not shorted out against a wiring diagram of the layout.

proportional band is the on off hysteresis so if the set point is 70DegC the boiler would come on at 69 and off at 71 with a 2DegC band, I’d go wider to stop it short cycling depending on your system size, then when it comes on it will stay on a bit longer and work a bit harder but the amount of cycles would be reduced.

Why not turn this thread into a music thread? People who’ve not bothered with it will think that there’s a mass brawl and bun fight going on when in reality we can be having a loved up love in.

How many of these pieces are you looking at making then elfin, couldn’t you make a prototype by hand? What did you say it is you’re making again? 😉

I’m loving the effects that can be got from ply, the topo table is amazing, I’d have the topo side up with glass over it. I keep thinking of things I’d like to make from it but I don’t think I have the skills yet, having an image in your minds eye and getting it made can be very different things, I’m not the most patient either to put it mildly. I like to finish everything in a day or i dont sleep at night 😐

I’ve got some of these dust maks with the valve, if the valve operates I assume it’s a tight fit, although probably not fully air tight!

    Dust maks

I also have a Sealy vacuum cleaner that I connect to my table saw and router, impressive to see how much it collects, it’s got a cleanable filter as well.

Great thread, given me loads of ideas of things to make. I’ve got into woodworking recently, I think could recite the Axminster catalogue off by heart.

I like the finish on the pulley table nickjb, is that using finishes like these (last 3 items) Chestnut Finishes.
