Just subscribed to print and digital, not been on here for a few years but want to get back into biking more, even if it is mainly road! Been a member of STW since the early days on the old Phorum site.

Are we allowed to take the piss out of Concordia and Zebrugher cockups hols2? Crashing your ship in the rocks while waving to your bird on an island and driving off with the doors open must be fair game?

Where are you buying the Lenovo P2 for sub £200?? I’m definitely up for getting one, I have a Moto G4 which is great and would buy a G5 but I really need a compass and the UK version doesn’t come with it (the US version does) :-/

They don’t seem to have too much overlap in the top holdings maybe a couple of holdings, they are all large cap global funds (even though Woodfords benchmark is UK Equity Income). The managers all have there own styles, monkeycmonkeydo does make a good point and it’s a point to check.

Maybe go for a UK smaller co. or UK midcap next.

Good choices joeegg. All Alpha managers with buckets loads of experience. I’ve also got some FGT also run by Nick Train.

Don’t go fiddling with them or checking them every day, just let them do there thing. Look long term and don’t fret about market fluctuations and press scaremongering, it’s all just noise 99% of the time. If the markets take a heavy hit use it as a buying opportunity not a signal to panic sell.

Tick the dividend reinvestment box, light a cigar put your feet up and WAIT…….Do not panic in market downturns.

    footflaps

long term (10+ years) they have always done very well and will almost certainly continue to do so. As long as you don’t mind the short term ups and downs and accept that every few years there will be a big correction.

    These +1

It’s time in the market not timing the market as the old saying goes.

Funds I like that have been mentioned:-
    CF Woodford Equity income.
    Jupiter European opportunities.
    Fundsmith.

And a FTSE 250 & Global AS trackers if you like.

    Others include:-
    Fidelity UK Smaller Companies
    Fidelity Special Values (Investment Trust)

Plus low volatile funds such as:-
    Henderson UK Absolute Return
    Threadneedle UK Absolute Alpha

Don’t go for way out there off the wall funds and shares. Good luck. 8)

But the other side is stronger $ so imports cheaper, good for global growth (China, India etc).

Rates are still so low and things need to return to some sort of norm, plus it will be a slow rise to a still low level.

As per jambalaya it’s a positive sign that the US economy is fairly strong, the uncertainty of when it will happen has rumbled on too long.

Forward guidance is also a good thing, and the fed has said it will slowly rise up to around 3.5%.

But the UK media presents one group as heroic, noble and brave and the other lot as cowardly and deranged, as sub-human savages.

I suppose they might think a soldier facing people with guns and IED’s etc is more brave than shooting and blowing up people in nightclubs, bars and street corners, going in to schools shooting kids or kidnapping a whole school of girls. The media is so one sided! 🙄

Be a different story if you’d put all your money in mining companies…..

Could be a good time to buy some (BLT or RIO) big divi’s which they look likely to continue. Or buy RDSB while oil is at a low, they’ll probably keep the divi’s up and should get some upside over the next few years, invest for the long term.

    DYOR etc….

Only if he pays tax on it

MTB’s on the road should be taxed due to wear from the knobbley wide tyres, road bikes produce little or no wear to tarmac.

looking at the results of this election where for example the Greens have 3.7% of the vote giving 1 seat and the SNP have 4.8% of the vote and 55 seats

Spread out over how many seats contested? What % of the vote did they win the seats they contested by? Easy to make figures work you way, more detail needed. The Greens don’t have a very good track record with figures recently!
