Put those knackered pads back in for the journey home, then replace when you get back – as above you be tempted to use the brake on the way home and the pistons may pop out casuing you loads more hassle. Though it usually the case that if one pad is worn to nothing and the other isn’t, that the piston on the non-worn side is sticky or jammed, hense why it’s not pushing the pad out and getting worn as the same rate as the other side. You need to get it moving again, or the same will happen with the new pads, sometime just lubricating the piston, and pushing it back and forth is enough, other time a complete strip is required.

This is 100% right. I popped a piston 3 hours into my first whw attempt by getting my juicy threes down to the metal. I wrecked the caliper and the disk. And my knee about 12 hours later as I couldnt stop.

Leave the pads in, dont brake, sort the sticky piston if you have one when you get home.

Thanks for that! I didnt think that some might actually be a wall continuing down – makes sense though! If its got a honeycomb structure does that make it safer to knock a hole in? Im best to get a cold chisel and a hammer and work the bricks out one at a time to I can squeeze through yeah?

    Cheers!

    What bike for £2k?
    – If you have to ask you dont deserve 2k to spend on a bike.

now for some reason the car feels like it’s squatting on the back end. brakes not as effective anymore under load either.

That sounds like suspension to me – perhaps somethings gone wrong with the new parts? I would have agreed with binding brakes but you would smell that.

There isn’t a funny smell of burning around your car you have been ignoring is there?

Have you tried putting them in the estate? Not being funny, just checking cause I got two doors into my corsa-b and managed to get the hatch closed.

(Infact the only thing that didnt fit in the little corsa that can recently was a bath, even then I just tied the hatch down for the trip – but my lights are on the car not the hatch so was still safe!).

They were very good about it and offered me free replacement pads and a discount off a new rim as the damage to the rim is 3rd party damage and is not covered by the warranty of the brake pads.

Thats pretty fair without seeing the rim, if its a worn rim anyway then they have been very good. If its a brand new rim then I would expect a discount on the rim and free labour on fitting it. I wouldnt expect the rim for free as the cost difference between OEM and standard off the shelf is a big lump to a bike shop.

I have seen a few houses in the past where its people in the services that will be away over christmas getting to celebrate it early with thier young kids. It might not be clear cut.

The shops with christmas decorations can all go f*ck off until middle of december tho.

The back up plan is too follow the cyclist dismount signs and walk very slowly down the ramp… they will get bored with that chat. Also fall over in the oil spill at the bottom of the ramp. I got a shouting at once for taking off my water proof trousers in the car park once, even though I had lycra on underneath. A streak would produce good results i think…

Richard your totally shafted – the building managment are very anti-bikes anyway and very angry with your company…

Did you know that the floor you recently moved away from had a rat infestation due to the cleaning issues? (Ie rubbish was just shoved under the suspended floor – for 4 years!).

Also when I worked there tackleberry (you know the one with the earing) used to moan at me daily for doing 20 odds coming down the ramp (the daft speed camera thing was more of a challange, I managed to beat 34MPH before the corner and still make it round one day!). His once pulled the daftest stunt I have ever seen – he jumped out from behind one of the pillars at the bottom of the ramp one day right in front of me… watch for him pulling that stunt on you.

Best solution – use a different coloured bike and wear a different coloured jacket next week. Sorted.

The time was when HR/Personnel Dept staff acted as a vital conduit, bringing together workforce and management, ironed out difficulties and worked towards a common accord. When performed effectively this would result in harmony in the workplace and most likely enhanced performance generally.
    In short, everyone won.

I put in a sick note for work related stress, the only contact I had from my HR dept was a letter 3 weeks later telling me that as I have not contacted them pro-actively my pay will be suspended and I will be disciplined. Thats the only contact my former employers made with me… I know they got my sick note as I got the automated emails telling me that I was marked off sick.

So, so, so glad to be out. So glad.

Also kinda looking forward to this meeting on tuesday. Should be fun, as I can say what I feel as I dont need to go back.

Just to thank everyone again. Quit my job this week, I have sorted a job with a large retailer as a salesman (only about £2k wage drop before bonus, should be the same with bonus) and I am starting to feel like a new man.

Interesting enough after my resignation letter I have been invited to attend a formal grievance meeting to discuss it… Also they have banned all swearing in the work place two days after I hand in my notice.

Anyways – I am now free from them. 🙂

asside form the innacurate spelling, the altitude gain is usualy crap as well, if fluctuates by +/-5m every time it takes a reading

Indeed, I seem to full of fail in my posts today – too much coffee and excitment about moving house on Friday is making me all jitery…

I have one with a barometric pressure sensor for altitude, it uses this along with the GPS signal for accuracy. It also has a temperature sensor etc for accuracy.

However there is something about a map that I just like more. I dont know why, I just like a map and compass to see where I am.

Indeed. I failed with the pedal / wheel distinction. 🙁

Is = a word? I would say that "Surf Mat Equals Awesome" is four words, but "Surf Mat = Awesome" is three words and some punctuation…

Is "New Shimano Frame!" four words as it has a !? Since when is the = greater than the !? Or even a full stop? Could you argue that "It's not me!" is five words?

    GPS v Bike computer

GPS – expensive to loose / break, eats batterys, gives you altitude gain which is gool, can link to a PC which is cool the first time you use it.

Bike Computer – cheap as chips, batterys last ages, gives you distance and speed.

I have both, I prefer the bike computer but take the GPS (and a map and compass) if its somewhere I dont know!

    Other interesting facts about tags:
    – Does it make the thread fresh again and pop it to the top as if someone had posted? Weird?
    – To get on the "hot tags" list you need over 300 topics tagged with that! Perhaps a tag age thing so that topics over a month old dont affect the tag count?

Infact what are they actually for?

    dmiller

So, for example I can see that it was dmiller who wrote the tag, 'I have a big willy'.

Interesting enough fact for the mods to know when they get here, and I suspect they will, you can get by the wear filters in the tags…

Hmmm. Despite someone (mods – not me honest guv I wouldnt be that childish – TJ done in it on his way to orbit) abusing the tag Surf Mat = AWESOME all over the front page its still not showing on http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/tags/%5B/url%5D…

I wonder how much abuse is needed to make it a hot tag? 🙂

Thats a cracking fireroad decent actually. I love hoooning down it and then when you get to the bit with the bridge at the bottom seeing how big a skid I can do!

See just before the fireroad starts, just after the round clearing bit? I did an epic mud endo there once… 🙂

Google maps has far better imagery of the area than the last time I checked – thanks for the head up!
