I’ve had my ID3 for a week, its great and the 80% charge is sufficient for 95% of usage including my 140 mile round trip commute.

On the days I go beyond the range of the vehicle in one go it will get 100% charge.

That was my interpretation of how to use. If I was doing close to the 100% range every day I would be looking for destination charging to top up anyway.

Great cars though despite the software teething issues, my daily commute was £17 a day in diesel and now its 1/10th of that or less if I get enough solar into the car :-)

Had AZ yesterday at midday, by 8pm felt fatigue, at 2am woke with quite a high fever 38.5 and flu like symptoms and couldn’t sleep much after that. Seems to have abated this morning, but was quite unpleasant. The Mrs had no side effects beyond slightly tender arm

Got a layz spa in the first lockdown, I love it, especially after a long ride. I am only heating mine when I have solar production from the panels as last year the electricity bill was a bit of a shock.

I think the layz spa is about 90% of the experience of a proper hot tub, but more expensive to run because poorly insulated.

Had rats in wall before, they ruined the cavity wall and loft insulation. Was not a pleasant job to clean up..

They entered through a whole in the mortar at ground level.

If you have a pump, filters, chlorine, ph+ or ph- and algicide you should be set and if you keep on top of it never need to refill.

Is the ground pan flat underneath it. It will be cold unless you heat it.

    I have just leased a VW ID.3

-Its taken around 4 weeks to go through the process and was due to be delivered tomorrow, but delayed due to the software update failing :-(
-I’ve leased before and never had a problem with the fair wear and tear, infact I touched up a few marks that I thought would be noticed and weren’t.
-Keep an eye on leasecar.uk its where I got mine, and I got a total bargain preregistered and was about 50% of the cost of a new lease to my spec, there are some great savings to be had if you are quick.

Presumably the govt has thought this through as I guess it will affect a lot of people once petrol/diesel cars are phased out?

Nope. They have thought about private driveways and public rapid charging. No one has thought long and hard about how to serve urban streets short of giving councils grants, that relies on the LA having the skills and resources to implement, which many, if not most do not have.

Whatever you buy be prepared to throw some cash at it or get handy. Whilst it probably won’t depreciate, and may gently appreciate, old Porsches cost money to run. Parts are not cheap. I have a 19 year old 911 and this year I’ve had to refurbish the brake callipers as they couldn’t be bled, replace the electric window mechanism, the indicator and wiper stalks, crank position sensor… It already had new exhaust and suspension components as well as a full engine rebuild when I got it.

By the end of the decade charging will be managed by aggregators balancing the need of the local networks with the generation on the system and the needs of drivers. Smart charging. Already seeing this in parts of NL. You will be rewarded for off peak charging

Not sure anyone has nailed on street yet, needs to be some kind of plug and charge solution for residents and probably some hefty policy intervention to enable infrastructure roll out and ease of use for residents

How will the likes of utilities and telecoms charge their van and equipment on the go. If all home chargers were ISO15118 compliant we could let these workers charge at our homes and get the cash back

Had some fantastic wheels from CSC on ebay, run them tubeless over a couple of years including racing, fred whitton, I rate them better than the ZIPP 404 that I had before that, they really are brilliant and think I paid £400 including upgraded spokes and hubs

I’ve just finished nights on ITU, a sweaty, awkward, physically and mentally draining experience complete with a number of body bags; they’re not points on a graph, they’re dead people.

This+1 and Thanks indeed, infact my younger sister is an ICU nurse and they are experiencing double the first wave. Her friends parents came through last week after catching if from their kitchen fitter. The dad died this week and the mum was intubated today :_(

Really hammers home why we are doing this.

We met Richard McCann at work a few weeks ago, he is the son of the first victim and has become a motivational speaker. He described in detail the evening his mother died, and the devastating impact it had had on his childhood and early adulthood very poignant.

I’ve been working on and off in smart metering since 2009

    Immediate benefits
-Removal of pedestrian meter reading, granular consumption info, no more estimated bills, meters can be switched to prepay without a site visit or new meter.

    Medium term benefits
-More granular tariffs (up to 48 different prices per day) to incentivise consumption outside peak hours
-Half hourly settlement, the full value of shifting consumption can be passed on to those who move consumption out of the peak, generate and store their own energy or use an EV.
-Switching – switch supplier faster with an accurate reading

    Longer term benefits
-DNO can manage load at EV charge points etc by providing turn up/down signals

    So that’s 2 pounds a day 365 days a year * 10 years (warrenty period)

Only it won’t hold that in December, probably not in November or January either. So you might get £4,000 benefit from your £8,000 battery in 10 years

Hot water diverter is certainly a red herring yes. If you heat with gas then you are making a trade off to divert free electricity to offset 3p kwh gas when you could use it in the home and offset 13p kwh electricity. If you have EV then its even better. Its better to export elec at 5.5p than use a hot water diverter. Total red herring. Also struggle with the benefit of a home battery that can store less than £1 worth of electricity but costs £3000+ never get any benefit surely.

I have one of those^ Masons, it’s perfect winter machine on paper for me. Not sure it meets OP requirements as it is a shade under 9kg without guards 9.6 with. Many of our group stick a race blade with buddy flap on their summer bikes, which I think is the only real way to keep down near 7kg

I have a bowman palace r and a mason definition. I love the way alloy rides, they are both vert different bikes. I’ve raced the bowman in 60/70 mile road races, crits etc, it’s brilliant for that because it handles so well and is light. The mason is my winter training bike. Again amazing handling, heavy and with a low centre of gravity. I would never take the mason out in summer. Will try and post some pics

We did it with a great builder who moved us round from room to room as we went he did all the work himself other than plumbing and electrics, the kids had to share for a while and we used a bedroom as a lounge etc. We did the build in 2016, it took 11 months. I did all the decorating and I only just finished the garden and other bits during lockdown. So it can drag on!

What ever you think it will cost, double it, then you still have to decorate and furnish it. I will not be cheap. Make sure you consider things like UFH which won’t be able to be retro-fitted later on

Just as counter to some of the above points as they mainly reflect bitter middle aged men, I know and work with a number of much younger people – early career types. They rent this type of place because there is no commute, close to social life & no ties, it is very disposable. If they are DINKYs then this going to be very affordable at £1,000 a month, they will be pulling in maybe £4k+ between them. When I was their age I had bought my first house in one of the poorer areas of outer Leeds as this lifestyle wasn’t on offer up north at the time. I have to say there is some appeal, although in hindsight I’m obviously glad I got onto the housing ladder early, but socialising was a massive pain in the arse.

.. only Aluminium? I know theoretically that shouldnt matter and it makes for a cheaper build…

I guess it depends on what you view as adding to the performance and feeling of a bike

for be Bowman with dura ace, deep carbon bling wheels > Cervelo with ultegra and alloy wheels

    That Rourke looks lush!

    djglover

Ultegra wouldn’t feature on a wow factor bike for me I don’t think. Its a work horse groupset, I’d want Dura Ace, Red or Campag Chorus or above. Frame wise, if you want something bespoke feeling and really great to ride then I would have to recommend a Bowman, its my go to road bike now and I am considering a build with Palace 3 disc next. I prefer it over the 2 giants I owned (TCR and Propel) and the Cervelo R3 and even Mason definition, which is the only bike that fits the endurance category, but the Bowman is the better feeling bike. If the Palace is to racy you have the Weald.

Would have to be a 911, 996 C2 or C4s. M135i etc area great cars, but they are just breathed on family wagons. A 911 feels special every time you drive it. Take your time, buy well and you will not loose any money on depreciation, but you will have to spend on maintenance, that is inevitable.

With low interest rates there will always be a market for good properties in the right location, so whilst some segments of the market may drop, it wont be overall and it wont be sustained IMHO. Similar to 2008/9, most people pause plans rather than sell at a loss

We’ve been to 2 different campsites this summer, in the lakes, both quite. 1 was the YHA Borrowdale, any sniff of trouble was quickly extinguished, and Lanefoot farm near Bassenthwaite. We walked through the scenes at Stonethwaite site in Borrowdale and it looked horrendous, at least 4 big festival/stag do groups who you could tell would ruin it for everyone. Site has closed down now to focus on the core farming business

So I think they are there, and they are easy to find personally
