I’m based south cambs (melbourn), I frequent thetford as much as possible sat or sun depending on other commitments. it tends to be off the cuff as I dont really plan well in advance. I’m on a slate santacruz nomad with green e13 chainguide, say hello if you see me!

they clearly lost loads of money dishing it out when £250 was ‘worth’ a lot more. and now they use archived footage whilst advertising the £250 without ever giving it out!

Edit: why can’t i even see the video on my screen?

What was the turnaround time on sending it in to getting the dough?

my point is not about the quality of the video sent in.

I’m just on a quest to know if anyone has actually received £250

thetford takes ages to dry out except for the 100m stretch of shale/stone surface they’ve laid.

Five Ten Impacts, with sports socks have always been warm enough for me. Just keep riding.

End of ride – towel dry feet* and stick the flip flops on.

    *Not required in summer :)

as above sheffield folk, are they any good/cheap barbers or hairdressers in the city centre? been to taylor & taylor up near the town hall and im generally not impressed.

To be honest mate, it's more likely that no barber can chop back your lego-style bog brush head :)

I paid 1200 in total for my bed, a 'double' pocket sprung mattress + frame. mattress was about 650.

I don't know why so many people are kicking up a fuss about the cost of a mattress being £2000. A lot of people on here seem happy to spend more than that on a bike, but i bet they don't spend 8 hours every day on it.

if you think about it, 2 grand for a mattress isn't a lot for the use and longevity you get out of it.

My advice, get the best quality (not necessarily the most expensive) you can afford…..and try before you buy.

Ive just bought a place using the lend-a-hand mortgage. I'd recommend it: your folks gain interest on the money they'll lend you as well as getting the capital back in approx 3 years (10% equity owned from repayments). it also gives you a fixed rate of 5% interest (2 years) which is probably the best you're gonna get as a first time buyer with little deposit.

I'd have a scout round and put some cheeky offers in using your first time buyer status as leverage for money off and a quick deal.

Chainreaction sell spokes in 36's which is mighty handy

Except for the fact that odds are you'll probably have 4 different spoke lenghts taking into account the dish of both wheels with disc hubs. Which will probably leave you with something in the region of 72-80 spare spokes depending on whether you build up 32 or 36 hole. Figure out exactly which rims & hubs you're using & then find an online spoke lenght calculator before committing to buying spokes in those numbers.

For future reference Frank, you can specify different lengths within the 36 you buy. Just give CRC a call.

play on your hope front hub tends to mean bearing issues – possibly poor alignment on fitting

the freeriders are less bulky and a bit more 'street'. The'r sole is flatenned off like classic vans. If you're not a poser and want some fivetens, go for the impact lo – i did and will never buy a different shoe again.

I definitely prefer the shoe padding protecting my feet (and ankles to an extent)

No slaters nearby unfortunately (Cambridge). Looks like I'll be popping into M&S, John Lewis and Next so far this weekend….

    Excellent all-round advice guys!

I tried my mp66 with flats but they just felt too weird after coming from Fivetens. the mp66s never felt like they actually gripped the pedals, just like they were sitting on top.

I'd go for flat specifics every time. Fivetens or maybe try Shimano AM40

i'd avoid alpinestars textile trousers, they feel a bit naff for the price they charge.

Frank Thomas are good if you don't mind looking 'not that cool'. Have a look at Wolf, their stuff is nice.

I second the M&S home insurance. :) You only have to declare an item worth over £4000. and its got no specified contents cover value.

enables you to cover multiple sub 4 grand bikes at home and away (with accidental damage) for a couple of hundred pounds!

EDIT: as well as covering the rest of the house contents!

Are you sure purely using a motorbike is the best option? for me personally, it was more cost effective to get a 'fun' bike to ride at weekends and commute on in the summer months. (taking into account tyres, sprocket/chain wear, servicing and total mileage before it decides to pack in!)

    EDIT: a zx9r :)

But that is because I also have to run a car alongside the bike!

just thought i'd mention chromags seatclamp as an alternative. The cam system on it works a lot better than the hope in my opinion.

can't compare it to the salsa though…..
