Ta, I assume you mean a 2.5 minion? does it match up sizewise to a 2.3 HR2?

Great bike – easy to maintain. Bought one for my wife to commute to work in cambridge from the park&ride(so relatively flat). Changed the rear freewheel to a 16t shimano one and added some sks bluemels guards and she happily spins at 14-15mph

i’d suggest its not as easy as a bleed / pumping it up. When I spoke to SRAM its a known issue that warranty covers – oil migrates somewhere apparently? like Loco says, a full stripdown service required

I’ve been on a ride with endurogangster and his sodden bandana. He did get caught out once by having a spare red one hanging out his back right pocket on a ride near brighton.

Something to do with the bandana/handkerchief code 8O

anyway, buff is defo the way forward!

wrecker is right, pretty big jumps at Jedis place – first time i did the 4th jump on the air supply line is the first time i felt like i was properly flying through the air on a bike. Think its about a 25ft gap!

unbelievable – she’s admitted to clipping the cyclists handlebar but pleaded not guilty for failing to stop??

Ah yes, it must be one of those times where a car clips a cyclists handlebar and there’s zero effect

So all giants info from OP tells me that by having a large volume 2.4 RQ running lower pressure tubeless on my 26er – I benefit in all cases!

    Awesome!

    My advice –

    1) Speak to wheelies to see what they say
    2) When you realise wheelies want you to wait in all day for their courier to turn up to inspect your damaged bike and it’s a pain in the ass move to step 3
    3) Ring wheelies and tell them you’ll get a LBS to assess the damage due to the infeasibility of taking a day off work(ie. what needs replacing/fixing) and get the information on headed paper
    4) Recheck you’re happy with LBS views and bear in mind your insurance is designed to bring you to the point prior to your claim – ie. down to superficial scratches of parts if you want.
    5) Provide to wheelies for assessment
    6) Wheelies will replace parts that they stock no issue
    7) Wheelies will try and offer crap alternatives to parts they dont stock or cash at 20% off rrp- ring M&S and complain quoting the wording in your policy doc
8 ) if cant be bothered to argue take the 20% hit on cash offer and source required parts online at 20% discount.

ie. nothing is really fixable as if you replace new bits of a frame with an old bit and the old bit subsequently fails – is it the fault of the repair wheelies provide? – i questioned this and they have no responsibility of this scenario. It’s better to push for new.

definitely a full face. I’d wear some knee pads and gloves cos I’ve got them.
If you feel the need for more (and why not if you’re unsure) – the bike shop at the bottom of the uplift rents 661 assault upper body stuff and full knee/shin armour for not a lot (£10 each if I remember right).

spares wise – innertubes and maybe a tyre if you’re not running dual plys anyway.

well it’s not the coaster hub version – so possibly is shimano freewheel?
definitely an 18t – so would be looking at 16t or lower due to cambridge flatness

for some reason – my work internet is blocking dahons site – so if someone can post the details that would be nice :)

so, now the date has passed – do we think the organisers weatherproofed the muddy bits of the course that required it as they said they would???

This smacks of a mayhem blatant lie – the likely scenario is the organisers will pray for sun because there is zero cost attached to that. With the obvious cost-cutting/profit-increasing attitude of last years mayhem I struggle to believe they’ll be outlaying some cost that is potentially not required if the weather is good a week before the event.

I dunno if you’ve done any other outdoors event recently but this totally is nt the case. The cost for MM is very reasonable, so many Triathlons/Tuff Guys type things now adays and the costs are astronomical.

I would have been keen to pay more for MM in the past if I new the course was going to be improved though.

You’re missing the point. I’m not disputing the entry price. However, it does creep up every year and the quality of event is decreasing.

We’ll have to see if the organisers do weatherproof the mentioned sections in mtbmatts review link – but if you attended last years mayhem – they actually announced over the tannoy in the arena that they’d weatherproofed the course (and maybe on the website?). In reality it was the identical course to 2011 and resulted in a clay-mud-fest. Even the RAF team were running some of the course with their bikes on their shoulders

A few sections were freshly cut, 2 in particular I was informed would be worked on heavily with hardcore added before the event.

Separate (and still available for free pikey family holidays I assume?) campsite to the arena is a thieves dream. Good thinking during the venue selection process!

    oooh where to start!

-as already said, when only 4 bike washes are brought and only 2 work its a major pain in the ass.

-more showers. or even better have showers specifically for riders who have just powered through the shittiest weather ever, spent an hour queuing to wash their bike then an hour queuing to use the showers cause some bell-end chav family/families who are camping for free think its appropriate to shower their 21 kids at the same time

-stop people taping off massive ‘premium areas’ for their two 2-man tents

    – have a generator specific area right on the outskirts of the camping zone

    – stop more idiot groups who think its ok to attach their hosepipe the the water outlet thats meant to service more than the 10 of them.

    – maybe the organisers could tell the truth a bit. ie. not blatantly lie about weather proofing the course a bit last year

    – covered area from the crappy weather handover.

    – keep the toilets stocked of handwash/bog roll etc.

just a few points vented out

I agree with the juicy comment – a pair of juicy carbons from 2005 – 2 bleeds.

1st @ new and shortening hoses
2nd @ 2007ish due to fitting goodridge hoses

And they still work like a beast

well, my idea was that if I could find a frame with a similar length top tube but the seat tube was smaller – i could get a slightly longer stem to keep the reach the same whilst improving standover and maneuverability of the bike.

i see the point for same as my usual size, but I like my stretched out 19″ xc (100mm) bike for xc and my relatively short ‘large’ nomad mk1 for ‘the rest’ + casual xc.

Hence me thinking about a slightly smaller frame than my xc only duty bike for single speeding – make sense?

although, as a minimal experienced SSer I’m not sure and making guesses.

EDIT: I won’t really be sat down grinding round thetford/broxbourne!!!

Cam MTB ride at night due to cheekiness of some trails/paths to link the fields together to avoid masses of road riding. Its very flat and not very exciting – if you want to churn some miles out though, the rides are fine.

Day riding, you’re better off driving the 1hr either west to woburn/chicksands or east to thetford

enduro – both had damage (impressions/small crack) internally where the ‘roc-loc’ style adjusters had compressed into the internal polystyrene. hard to see exterior damage cos of the hard shells.
