One of those new Thomson Ti bikes (but wait for the 29er)

or go custom, this caught my eye recently from Field Cycles (although why you’d go with a layback on a custom frame is beyond me)

It’s for a Canfield Yelli, and their stock stickers IMHO look rubbish so as a graphic designer I want some decent ones! Gil doesn’t seem to do die cut ones which I think I will need.

was thinking roof and walls in corrugated, ideally looking for some info on building the frame and making sure it’s water tight, also any advice on what sort of doors to fit.

    Axle to crown on a Float 36 160 26″ is 17.4mm less than A-C on the standard Float 34 150 650b.

Do you mean 17.4 mm more? or am I being crap at maths…

Yeah not sure what the fork clearance issues would be on a Bronson, any idea?

After my similar post on Friday I emailed Greg @ Turner bikes about doing the same on a 650b Burner his reply was:

OK, odd question for you and I’m sure you won’t recommend
me doing it, but I’m looking to upgrade my current 2010 5 Spot and get a new
5 Spot or possibly a Burner. My question is if I don’t have the cash to
upgrade my forks and wheels immediately can I use my 160mm FOX forks and 26″
wheels on a burner frame without it riding like a pig? I thought if I put
large volume tires on it it might be OK, what’s your stance on it?

    Hi Paul,
With the longer fork and some big tires you should be fine running 26″ until
    you can get the 27.5ers.
Thank you for your support of Turner bikes.

    Greg

So there you go, straight from the horses mouth!

Asked same question on Friday, general consensus was 12.5mm lower BB, I reckon you might be able to make that less with some 2.4 Rubber Queens or similar.

Just joined the 29er club a couple of weeks back with a Yeti Big Top and after a weekend in Wales I can safely say it pretty darn awesome! So it gets my vote.

this is what I figured (29er HT would be fine) but my mates are suggesting a full sus is the way forward, not really that fussed which one I take and realise either way it’s unlikely I’ll die, just hoping for some impartial STW advice!

Yeah the Nicolai is £2234 with a FOX Kashima BV

    disconoir

Not much cheaper really, works out as £1885 frame only plus £29 postage compared to £1950 frame only in the UK.

Nicolai can be had online for a lot less

    Where?

Actually could get an El Guapo frame only for £599 with a Monarch or £799 with CCDB Air. Which means it could be a free upgrade depending on what I get for my 5 Spot frame.

    Mmmmmmm…….

Not sure about the Blur but 140mm would be fine travel wise, Covert not sure about either although I’m guessing the Mojo HD would be much like my DW 5 Spot (but lighter and more travel) so might be worth tracking down a ride on one of those, although it’s £2400!! I didn’t plan on selling an organ to fund it.

Trying to get a test ride on the Nicolai is going to be a struggle I think and same for the Rocket (without travelling 200 miles north), already had a go on my mates SB66 which i really liked.

and yes the Devinci does look wrong in carbon, in ally though looks OK.

El Guapo – yes stupid value for money but I’ve already got the kit to go on it so would rather have a nicer (read: posher) frame.

OK shortlist is now as follows, in ascending price order….

Cotic Rocket £1499 (w/ Fox CTD Kashima shock)
    Devinci Dixon Carbon £1999
    Yeti SB66 Alu £1999
    Nicolai ION 16 £2234

Obviously I want the Nicolai but is it worth £750 more than the Cotic?

    disconoir
    Free Member

Oooh, that Devinci looks good and reasonable a £2k for the carbon (if £2k for a frame can ever be reasonable!)

    disconoir

I do quite like the look of the rocket, trouble is finding one to have a go on down south,

    disconoir

yep 23″ on the 5spot too, medium SB66 I had a go was 24.1″ which felt much better

    disconoir

mda, what’s the sizing like on a Tracer? I think I would need a large.

prof, I do have a hankering for a Nicolai, already got a 5Spot and that’s what will donate it’s bit on to the new frame. Love the 5Spot but after riding a mates SB66 at the weekend I’ve realised I need a bigger frame hence the search for a new one.

I’d say a Turner Flux, but that’s because I have one! There was a guy in the forum the other day looking at selling his – if you’ve got the cash it’s a great ride and fairly niche.

I’m 6’1 and a bit so only a couple of inches in it, the thing is I’m so used to riding bikes to small for me, bad habits and all that. I really like the DW too, I had used to have a Horst Link 5 spot and I don’t think it was anywhere near as good as the DW but that might be the better shocks (F&R) on the DW. Since I’ve had the Flux I rarely head out on the 5spot (new DW one). Probably the best bike I’ve ever owned for my local terrain.
