OP, i appologise in advance but that had me laughing

“instantly tired and wanting to stop for a little sleep”

I know Exactly what you mean, its not Good and its taken me a fair while to recover from mine, the worst one i had was when riding at Dalby, same thing Early start crap food the day before, end of a long week and i nipped round Dalby in record time, so pleased was i that decided to nip off another lap, BIG Mistake, i very nearly managed it and got to the fence in the last 3rd, where it funnels you through a gap not attached to any other fence ?

Anyway, there i was propped up against a tree, dazed and confused 😳
I was found by two Girls, well women…….. one of which i apparantly took quite a shine to ?

After eating their food and bleeding their Camel Backs dry i eventually made it to the car and then to the Bakery in Thornton-Le-Dale where i consumed many pies.

its been about 3 years now since, ive been out today and have covered quite a few miles this week. i felt it comming on tonight i got that empty gaping space in my stomach and immediately held off and turned straight back home.

I got some 661 kids gloves for my Son that were Tiny, then I bought him some FOX ones, now at 9YO he refuses to wear gloves, he says they are too clumpy and he can’t feel the grips properly,

The bloody Youth of to-day eh !

One well worn T Shirt and a well used bike, he’s obviously seen that there’s some benefits to wearing leg protection but failed to realise he needs some padding on his upper body, 10/10 for trying though

My Mrs has a Tiguan, its a fantastic car and really well built, previous to this we have had Golf’s & Golf Plus and Polos, in comparison a Seat is cheap beside a Golf. To say it drives better than a VAG equivelent is odd as it is a VAG vehicle and it’s marketed as a cheaper alternative to a VW, a bit like SKODA which is also VAG,

A Golf will handle the mileage and they are bombproof, the DPF issues shouldn’t bother you as doing that kind of mileage the regeneration process will occur on the motorway at high temps as it should and not stuck in town in a traffic jam where it gets choked up doing a daily commute where it doesent burn hot enough.

Seats are ok if you are on a budget, at the end of the day that’s why they are marketed at the market segment, I’m not being snobby that’s just the way it is, I don’t dictate the market.

Or maybe try a new Polo they are a great looking car.

2X10 “till the weekend” then I will be 1X

At which point I will sell you my e-thirteen bash with roller, I tried a few variations on a theme and was always throwing my chain until I fitted this and it’s never ever dropped a snot,

If you want new I can have a look which model it is so to speak and let you know but I’d certainly reccomend one.

mrwhoppy, Its not really “Top Speed” I’m after, if i were then i would be going the opposite direction and going 36T on the front, its NOT the 11 side of the casette i’m after its the 36T to 40T i’m after.

Just so i dont have to bail When, having crossed the A57 up to Hag Farm, Up Jacobs Ladder, The Slabs up to the gate from Ladybower, the climb apply named “Shit Bastard Climb” On Strava and just generally when im hanging out and at Max heartrate when i want to pedal fresh air to recover whilst still upright and pointing up hill on the bike,

I doubt i’ll spin out, IF i do i will have a spare 34T ring to slip on the front, i wont be competeing and i’ll not be pedalling on any Roads.

I’m bobbling about on a 36llb Nomad so i need all the help i can Get.

Dunmail, as above that’s basically what I’m after something to help on the steep techy stuff, I can’t see me spinning out off road except for maybe spooky woods at GT or a few of the fire roads at CYB ? Some of the descends in the Peaks I,m not so sure and I won’t be venturing on Tarmac. I’ll give it a whirl see how I get on.

I’m going to buy a 34T ring up front as well so will be able to swap over if needs be.

    scaredypants, Cheers

It is a 26″ steed, im frequently finding myself in the Peaks and i’m hanging out on the steep techy climbs, On Sunday 3 others had 1X11 and were straight up that evil climb with the concrete section that leads up to Winn Hill, They were SRAM with 42 Teeth i think,

So, looking at your equations, in the front 30T & rear 40T its going to be 4% harder to spin it out.

It’s pretty fair to say that you either love em or hate em, there’s probably as many lovers as haters and if we all liked the same things then we would be in a quandary,

It’s just as well otherwise we would all be running about on the same bikes, with the same helmets and kit on.

    Now that would be sad

I’ll continue to use FOX based on real world* “ME” reviews as oposed to what the papers say approach, That said my 36’s are the first batch that appered with the Kashima coat and tapered head tube, 3 years on and after irregular service intervals they are fine, being the first batch of the Kashima i think i bought these before all the bad reviews and the poor service from FOX that has occured over the past few years so i cant comment on that but im due another pair shortly and will be buying FOX over the RS equivelant so fingers crossed.

I’ve got some fake Jawbones, there’s no difference between the two, they have all the markings and serial number etc, I recently scratched the lense on the yellow ones I had and and they went cloudy in my line of vision, I took them off and stuffed them in my pocket as it was pishing down, any way the grit from Dalby buggered them up.

I tried snapping the lense and it kinked it didn’t just snap, I stamped on it and it didn’t break then I got my air rifle out and shot the other lense and it didn’t break so I’m confident that my illegal activity won’t kill me, I’ve just come back from a ride in the Peaks and I did 85MPH on the motorway and I didn’t get arrested.

There are people fiddling with a lot worse than a pair of Fake Oakleys and getting away with it so each to their own.

    Which means WHAT ? Exactly

Is that a good thing or a bad thing,

And surely its a rising rate as the link in effect activates the stroke, where as a single pivot bike is solely reliant on the axle and the shock the VPP is reliant upon an axle, shock and an added Linkage which transfers the rate at which the shock is activated.

Is there not another graph somewhere which shows how happy SC owners are ?

I had a frame warrantied the other year with NO quibble, and as i keep on saying it rides really well.

Compared to a Heckler the VPP nomad is well no Comparison, and compared to another popular single pivot Orange 5, its laughable. So i cant see why or how the VPP Link Activated Shock doesent work, on paper maybe its a bit confusing but out on the Trail is where it counts.

That’s what I thought as well, a bit like a boy racer looking at BHP hikes on a graph, when what your actually supposed to be looking for is a fairly flat torque curve right across the rev range.

All that graph shows me* as a casual observer is that its set up wrong on the other 2 ?
You can even see where it ramps up at the end of the stroke where it bottoms out, or is that not what it shows, can some one explain what’s going on with the graph, any one from TF, Loco etc who knows what they are on about.

And how come no one else knows that link activated VPP style suspension doesent work.

I have no idea what that graph shows but are the other two single pivot bikes ?

    discoduck

I had one in a Bullit years ago, I loved it, it went to TF several times as it tended to pile in every 12 Months or so until I eventually got it shim stacked and then it was faultless.

I suppose it worked pretty effectively on the single pivot bikes but failed to step up when the link activated suspension started cropping up in the mid 2000’s.

I’d like to ride one again to see how it compares.

Rick, do you have a new Nomad ?
How does it ride on the slower technical descents, how Is it on the slow climbs with switchbacks like at Dalby.

I’ve had a bit of a wake up call this afternoon, after winging and whining about having a Plastic bike my mate reminded me that I made as much noise in the early 90’s when things went from steel to Alu.

What method of reporting do you have when she serves Your boiled egg and soldiers 5 mins late, have you got Childline on speed dial ?

Hob Nob, can you elaborate any more on your experience, in what way was it poor on the downs, I’m not questioning your knowledge I’m genuinely interested as I’m going to be replacing an Alu Nomad shortly and was thinking about this bike specifically as it’s basically an old Nomad, the new ones too slack for me etc.

I’ll be riding Whistler, Colorado, Alps on it so it’s pretty important that it comes down well. My nomad has to be the best bike I’ve ridden it’s just so good on the downward stuff and also surprisingly effective on the ups. Dependant on my legs and lungs of course.

IF I am honest though………. I think the Bronson Is Fugly ! I’m not keen on that brace and think the rear triangle looks skew, I quite like a bike to be symmetrical like the Nomad, like the Heckler how it forms around the seat tube and is pleasing on the eye. I know it’s not imperative and it won’t be a deal breaker as long as it works but if its not compliant on the descents then I’m sticking with Nomads.

They are Maxis HR’s on some Mavic CrossMax or another ?
    Not sure which ones though,

The train of thought was with some of the fluid seeping into the latex, the funniest bit was him not being able to find a squirty bottle so he emptied the contents from a cillit bang bottle, added a tad of Fairy then filled up with hot water.
after he’d bobbed the tyres on he used the remainder of the bottle to clean his bike…..

I just wondered upon the train of thought, with only a little going a long way would it froth up on the inside creating pressure

Phew, yes tyre unseating. About 30 mins into a ride. I did tell him to leave them overnight as well which he didn’t so may e that’s got something to do with it, I just had visions of him dousing the tyre sidewall in fairy and then having a sink full of bubbles in his tyre.

Just had a quick look, it was the duo, I like the look of those new Apex they look very nice,

How long before Renthal start making seat posts I wonder ?

Edited to add, having just seen mikes pic, Thomson bars & matching stem,
    Renthal Bars & matching stem
Easton bars……… Etc, just keeps everything nice a co ordinated.

And also some where the rails are attached to the seat in the plastic housing, it’s usually the rail housing that gets washed with crud and then begins to creak and groan

    discoduck

Not sure which Renthal stem I had a few years ago now maybe 2 but it creaked and groaned like mad so I took it back off and put the Thomson 50mm back on.

There’s enough creaking and groaning going on with My* Santa Cruz another one right under my nose just about sent me over the edge, having pissed on my frame before to try and stop it cracking I wasn’t going to start pissing on my stem.

If this is a new revised stem then I’d like one to match my Renthal bars.

Yes, as scapegoat suggests it’s not a bad distance, not sure on your level of fitness so depends, I’m not sure but I think they have changed the Blue and it comes in towards the end of the red somewhere ?

You could do visitor centre out on Blue to post 26 and then in on red twice ? Or blue red blue, or as scapegoat suggests but the fire road to post 26 is a right lick out !
