That’s laughable, twitchers flock from all over the country burning fossil fuels and when they get there they moan about a Green Energy wind turbine killing a dickie bird WTF !

So it’s OK to help pollute the environment but then moan when they chase a helpless bird into a giant fan !
I’d make them all stay there for another 30 odd years till another one turns up ! See if they learn a lesson,

Oh as little as that 😳

ah well, my new Nomad’s due in the next few weeks  26″ to boot, I’m not convinced by the new hype, obviously……..

What happens in another few years when a second or two is gleened from another “new thing” ? That could be say a 3 second advantage over winning or losing, one things for sure if the riders train as they do throughout the winter for the start of the race season and are putting in their all I for one would want to see them pushing the boundaries even if it was a second !

Competing at the highest level is hard graft, not just in biking but in anything…….. Look how much the motoring industry has improved though F1 & 24hour racing, stratified fuel to optimise economy so less fuel carried = less weight = less fuel used…… This trickled into the mainstream motoring manufacturers in various guises but no one moaned half as much about tht as folks are about 1/2 an ” on a bike wheel

    It’s obviously a SIZE Matters thing !

Maybe it matters and maybe it doesent but one things for sure !
You can’t stop progression at the level that some of these manufacturers pour into advertising !

It’s got to be a good thing, and if it isn’t well we can all get one of them Dandy Horses !

Same as really, I’d have charged £10 for cleaning it, get a bog brush from IKEA 60p !
Rattle the bristly end inbetween the spokes once a fortnight and then it doesent look like you don’t give a shit, which you obviously do, as long as it doesent involve you havering to do anything ?

I wouldnt wear one of those, just out of principle ! If you want to display road tax buy some number plates as well, I,m all for clever T Shirts, i;ve got a few poigniant ones myself, for me that would be a too finer line between who the **** is ?

    The rider or the driver

If you want to get your point across to drivers that badly buy a bike trailer and put some plackards on it and then ride round round-a-bouts all day !

I’ve had one of those !

’twas like a jam tart on my knee, it took ages to heal as mine was sticking to eveything !
Definately iodene you can get the savlon one in spray form ! It looks cool as well yellow momentarily before it goes scarlet with the blood

I usually use a rondapad it sounds like the ones mentioned above,

Perforated film on one side and fabric on the other, good luck BTW as the knee cap is a real bastard to heal as it keeps cracking when the knee bends,

I would look at a Koga Miyata for a 6 footer plus, there’s a guy on LFGSS that specialises in only these bikes,
Some of the tubing this company used is simply stunning, on some of their 90’s stuff they had barley twist tubing and wishbone rear ends as well as a full Shimano 600 gruppo !

The frame steel was Japenese but the bikes are from the Netherlands
I love them, they did some MTB’s at one time too they are also quite desireable on the Retro Bike site ?

    Enjoy,

I’m running XT 2X10 and have spent the past month convincing myself that i am going 1X10 for no other reason than as stated above “its the next cool thing”

Then………. i rode Lllandegla on Monday and after re aqainting myself with Welsh trail centres i seem to have stopped thinking its cool and decided 2X10 is definately the way to go.

Obviously its not a hijack to open up a debate on Degla or trail centre riding, or a debate on chains BUT Shimano chains are unreliable and i’ve been running KMC for a month and its smooth and reliable.

I think you are pissing in the wind if you think that a thicker tube is going to offer any more protection than a thinner one,

Hit your thumb with a hammer and then put a glove on and see if it hurts just as much second time round, I’m willing to bet it does,
High rollers will be fine, minions would be better, just run some correct pressure in the tyres, the HR front is a terrible tyre and gives little indication that it’s gonna let go, that said tho it’s an all weather course and offers stacks of grip.

I’m not sure what bike you have but I’m willing to bet 40 PSI will see you right,
Try CRC for tubes, X10 airwaves for £25 mines been in 3 months and been all over the place, the valve came off last week at Dalby replaced for a new one, that’s not pinch flatted yet and it’s been down worse than AS,

    discoduck

I’ve been running Airwave ones with the green dustcaps for a while, I know the tubes help a bit but I’ve always found the pinch flat resistance comes from the tyre sidewalls so I’ve always ran lighter tubes and heavier tyres,

I’d watch it if it went back to how it used to be in early days, stopping off at a cafe for a Martini with brandy chasers followed by Brie and some French bread !

Touring France with no support crews or ego’s ! You stop to mend a puncture not get a new wheel before being pushed on to get you going again, and the Yellow jersey should be made of wool and knitted by somebody’s grandma, the cyclings that boring and predictable the TV crew could pan out and cut to Alberts gran sat in cheadle trying to get her head around the pattern for the polkodot jersey,

    That’s television !
I’d gladly watch a tour of France where no one actually wants to win a brightly coloured wooly jumper for fear of being too hot and laughed at !

Just had mine serviced, just shy of £100

My forks were nearly £1,000 ! So changing mine for some that’s nearly the same price clearly won’t work ?

I’ve used TF for some time now and have always had excellent customer service, their coffee is quite good too, and upstairs in the seating area there are some really early editions of STW ! It’s scary looking back at how much things have progressed, going back to when the 5th elefant coil shock came out I was on the phone to Tim once a week, that thing was like the enigma code…….. Always helpfull and nothing ever seemed like too much trouble !!!

They are always stacked up with work so they must be doing something right ?

If its any help I suffer a similar problem and have recently put some Renthal Fat Bars on my ride and it’s eased the aching completely ?
Maybe at some point it,ll return but I’ll just get even wider bars 😀

I’ve always run tubes and on Tuesday whilst riding at Dalby my tyre went down in seconds on a technical down bit, it turned out that the valve had become unseated from the tube probably due to perishing or constant rubbing,

Right there and then i decided to go tubeless, now having looked into it i’m not so sure ?

I’ve had the same with ENDURA, Excellent customer service,

I’m lead to beleive HOPE do a similar thing, although ive not any any issue with sending their stuff back,

Two Iconic (for me) british cycling brands that know how to look after their customer base
    And long may it continue

Such a sad loss of life, it saddens me to think that when you go out on your bike there’s a good chance you could be seriously injured or killed, sure he died doing something he loved but i bet he’d have rather finished the race and lived to tell the tale.

It seems to be happening all too often lately

A year or so ago a rider was killed on a road near to where i live, the 85 year old driver thought he had run over a badger ?
another was hit and left for dead for 3 days in a ditch and another on the same stretch was hit and killed.

    Sickening,

    Stay Safe…………..

I agree with the above, MTB’ing tends to get you out of the saddle a bit more and i tend to shift about a bit any way, i always stand up for the free speed just to get set up right and save the sitting down for when its absolutely neccesary “Hangin Out” fitness wise i mean not in the case of our fury friend above
    😯
When cresting a hill try and stand more often to get a few pedal strokes in as its often a case of sat in the saddle spinning it out for too long which will cause the numb feeling, aleiviating the pressure often enough will definately help,

It may sound like i’m teaching you to suck eggs but when your doing all the other things required to stay upright an moving the time elapses so quickly you could have been sat on the nerves for a good half hour without releiving the pressure,
some saddles will certainly help but at the end of the day if you sit on anything long enough its going to get sore,

Something like could this could only be deemed normal behaviour on the Internet,

As for being beaten up for riding my bike WTF ! I’ve ridden my bike all over the place and never been beaten up, in fact i’m 40 years old and never been beaten up,

I’m going to come and ride it myself now and i’m even going to bring my own carrier bag and nick some of your Conkers while i’m there ! It’s like being back in 70’s where you had to play on your own street and if you ventured off you got filled in or chased round and then filled in.

    How **** pathetic !

Just take a Full Face helmet, I think that’s mandatory, I wouldn’t bother with Body armour unless your planning on comming off ?
It’s Been a while since I wore body armour but the Dainese stuff was always good and offered good protection,

You could always wear a neck brace and NO body armour which seems to be the order of the day almost everywhere ?

As for spares, take a pair of tyres, tubes if your running them intact tubes even if your not !
Maybe a pair of pedals, zip ties, you could go on and on, spare saddle, bars, grips.

I’ve ordered a Tennis Ball Yeller SC frame so i reckon i need some matching shorts,
Bright seems to be in ? the HOWIES Dyfi Jacket sold out in a day or so in Orange, As long as its not Toight and Lycra then i reckon you could get away with pretty much anything,

    *Except Dirty white ones ?

The only thing wrong with car drivers ‘V’ Cyclists in my experience is this,

Said car driver sits in tin box and sees a fellow human being on a none motorised form of transportation, lazy fat burger munching beer swilling pizza eating chain smoker knows full well that He /She should be doing more to stop the onset of diabetes / heart disease but chooses to ignore the human psychie so does what most other animals do, eats more and make howling noises,

If these fools were still allowed to apply make up, shave, use mobile phone whilst driving then Cyclists wouldnt be that much of an issue, unfortunately the Cyclist is still the minority ?

That and the fact that you cant teach a stoopid person to do clever things…….

Well, I rode there this afternoon, Very quiet ! only saw 3 other riders on the trails……….

Conditions wise – There’s been a lot of deforestation on a few of the sections, there are also some new sections i think ? one part drops down into a right hander and the whole forest drops away in front of you giving spectacular views, it might have been like this before but the trees probably blocked the views.

The single track bits that are built up and that were rutted are now super smooth………. same as the section leading to the bit of trail with the 3 bomb holes on its been re done,

Some of the climbs are cheeky, the switch back climb after the worry gill bit with the bridge that has rubber matting on it is loose and rocky, a good climb with a natural feel to the surface due to erosion, it is as said above smoother in places but in others it does throw you about a bit if you press on a tad.

Its bone dry, ride it……. its pretty tough towards the end,

I’ve been thinking the same thing as the TK Max analogy, a good one that !

I’ve definately noticed lesser and lesser decent kit on there and I’m too pissed off with £13 for XYZ for instance only to open up the link and find as mentioned above that the one I actually want is £49.99 !

I personally don’t like wiggle, the amount of times I’ve gone to order on line and it states this item is free delivery, only to find out delivery is added at checkout ? What’s that about,

I’ve been using Stif, same stuff as anywhere else but free postage and its the price as other places too, I’m just reluctant to pay over the odds for something that lured me in for a killer deal.

I rode a hire bike in Canada and whilst trying to impress the townsfolk I whipped myself over the bars in an instant !
Stupidly thinking I’d grabbed a hand full of rear brake I was slammed on the deck smashing my Oakleys, nose and couple of Teeth !
None of which mattered tho as the humiliation more than made up for my lack of both skill and common sense,

I wouldn’t do it simply because I’m too stoopid to remember and altho you never forget how to ride a bike I bet you would forget that the brakes were the wrong way round ?

What are you cleaning your bike with ?
Are you spraying something on the frame and forks after washing like GT85 or similar ?

Also what brand of pads and which disk brake set up are you running?

I know a lot of people wash their bike in car shampoo believing it will give it lustre and shine, it will give a nice sheen on eveything including the braking surfaces

ODI Troy Lee Lock ons, super sticky, extremely comfy and have a square edge stepped design making it almost impossible to loosen the grip on,

    I’ll try and explain that,
its a bit like a waffle blocked design with the thinner end on the heel / palm area and the square stepped up edges laid up under the fingers, imagine running your hand down a fish scale and then drag it back up, kind of like that ?

I wouldnt bother on a four hour ride to be brutally honest, if you are that bothered then concentrate on the preceding days prior to your ride, try carb loading the day / night before.

Porridge and honey the morning of the ride and some brown toist and marmite and a brew en route to riding spot whilst driving ! (Parked in a lay by safely)

followed by post ride Fish ‘N” Chips
N.B. If you let me know where you are riding i probably know where the nearest “best” Chip oil is,
Eating shite like pies and white bread whilst excersising increases heart rate and blood pressure as you try and digest fat & Stodge whilst suffering from the effects of a four hour endurance pootle.

Not been since the rains damped it down but it was treacherous in the dry I agree, should be fairly fast flowing.
