My reluctance to go with with Fitbit would be a combination of poor reliability reports coupled with Google’s unparalleled ability to kill off a product line stone dead without much warning.

    https://killedbygoogle.com/

Google are currently denying that they are discontinuing Fitbits

What bike is it as it looks like they could make an ideal bike for my other half?

it just shouldn’t be possible with correct procedures in place unless they’ve been compromised and what’s gone out was never an authorised patch.

    That could be one possibility.

I have obtained the Crowdstrike driver they pushed via auto update. I don’t know how it happened, but the file isn’t a validly formatted driver and causes Windows to crash every time.”

I was hoping the updated Pompino would have disc’s & 40mm+ tyre clearance as I’d have snapped one up.

So when Microsoft say they are taking “mitigating action” they actually do mean turning it off and back on again?

It’s not something Microsoft can fix with a restart, more details below.

It’s been caused by Crowdstrike, the fix requires booting each system that is having problems to safe mode. Bit of a nightmare weekend ahead if you are a Crowdstrike user.

    https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/06/apple-commits-to-5-years-of-iphone-updates-though-it-usually-releases-more-anyway/

They have committed to a minimum of 5 years for the iPhone 15 Pro but the above article says it’s likely you’ll get 7+ years of updates.

“But in reality, Apple usually hits or exceeds this seven-year timeline for updates—and does so for iPhones released nearly a decade ago and not just its newest products.

2017’s iPhone 8 and iPhone X, for example, are still receiving iOS 16 security updates. 2015’s iPhone 6S and 2016’s iPhone 7 were receiving iOS 15 updates as recently as March 2024”

I recently bought a refurbished 13 mini from Amazon as you can’t get them from Apple anymore, it’s been fine and looked in mint condition.

I use Uncle Roger’s Egg fried rice recipe, though I tend to add some shredded tofu , chilli crisp oil & some additional veg ( peas, brocolli etc ) to it

I’ve just upgraded from a 2020 SE to a refurbed 13 mini, the only reason I upgraded was the SE only had 64Gb of storage and it was near capacity for the last few months.

I think the fist book I read of his was Complicity but then I discovered the IMB books.

I think probably Use of Weapons is my favorite though strangely I’ve never read it again – maybe it’s knowing how things turn out in it. The shock the first time I read it was very powerful. Excession or Player of Games come a close 2nd.

It tends to be really easy to claim.

We were delayed for 8hrs with TUI in September, filled in a form on their website, and had the compensation after about a week.

I’ve got an Apple watch 7, I get around 36 hours of use out of it before it needs charging – this is typically tracking 2 1/2 hour commutes a day and maybe a walk at lunchtime., I changed the obvious settings like always on display and Siri to off .

Interestingly the low power mode on my 7 doesn’t seem to make a great deal of difference to the battery life.

Tempted to give that plant pot heater a go next year for my allotment polytunnel as come April the house gets incredibly full of tomatoes and chilli’s that occupy every windowsil at home.

got me wondering what i could do with them to add protein

Add some Tofu for extra protein – the Cauldron marinated tofu pieces are pretty good for this.

I managed to get from 84 to 76 kg this year but I’m just about head to Menorca this Friday for a weeks all-inclusive h9liday. It would be nice to get to below 75 before Xmas.

Not a great start to using these tyres, a puncture within a week of using them, and also maddeningly impossible to remove on the Hunt 4 Season wheels so I had to walk / train home yesterday evening :(

There recent emergence of Behringer copying all the old designs will get you a long way for little money – if you can come to terms with the particular ethics of that company

The owner Uli seems to be a bit of a bell but I am really tempted by the Pro-VS Mini.

The Volca’s are great intro’s ( I’ve got Drum and Sample and have had an FM and the Bass ) but it’s worth looking at other manufacturers or other devices as the Bass and Beats are a bit long in the tooth now and could do with an update – no Midi out, limited amount of patches available on them.

Have a look at the Roland Aira Compact T-8, it does the classic Roland 303/ 808 /909 sounds one Volca sized package.

In addition to the Volca Drum and SampleI’ve got the following:-
    Korg Monologue
    Korg Minilogue
    Elektron Model:Cycles
    Arturia Microfreak
    Korg NTS1
an Ipad with endless amounts of apps on

The Monologue is a great starter synth (plus it has some patches by Aphex Twin on it )and is a lot more capable than the Volca Bass, The Microfreak is probably the most versatile synth I’ve got and is well-supported by Arturia.

I didn’t realise this was still going – it was good at helping me target weight loss this year.
I managed to hit my target weight on 7th July and have since put a bit of weight back on so I’ve just updated a new target weight now as we are off on holidays in September.

Yes, I had a test on April ( I’m 49 ) and it was 7, currently trying to reduce it by improving diet, less booze, planet sterol spread, more oats, etc.

I’ve lost 7kg this year since a January high of 84kg and 3kg since April, I’m due a restest this month so will be interesting to see if this has made any difference, I’ll go on the statins if I need to as both my parents are taking them.

I’ve seen this “old account” explanation before but this machine has only ever had one user on it so that doesn’t really make sense for me.

Does your only user account have admin rights on the computer? it would be a good idea (if it is ) to create another account, make this the administrator and make your normal day-to-day account a non-admin account.

The canals around Birmingham have lots of bricked sections which are tremendously slippy in the wet. I was going under a bridge in the rain and there were a lot of pigeons on the towpath, I had to brake and the front wheel slid out from me.

I scrambled to avoid going into the cut, my bike ( a Pompino RIP ) ended up in there with only the saddle and saddlebag visible so I was able to retrieve it fairly easily.

    Thankfully no pigeons were harmed.

Not far off 6kg down so far, and I’m less than 1kg off target so of course this coincides with meeting up with friends this evening for beer & curry!

5 days eating tapas & drinking a little in Barcelona last week has taken its toll on my progress, I’m still a bit down on the start of the week though so that’s something.
