Useful, ta. Was ‘interesting’ in a good or a bad way?

Charlie and Lola is a good shout, as are Lauren Child’s Clarice Bean books. Sarah Lean does some nice younger fiction too. Walliams and Mr Gum are really 9+, but younger kids can get on with them.

For 6 year olds I really think Dr Seuss’s are the most fun (though that’s the upper range for them really). Silly text but a decent amount of it, plus lots of pictures.

As mentioned above Oliver Jeffers is brilliant, but is really aimed at 3-5. Though his Imaginary Fred book is perfect for a 6 year old.

This thread definitely needs someone posting hilarious, irreverent pictures.

Missed this thread first time round, really interesting, have looked at these myself. Thanks for resurrecting!

Ah, this and some of the other recommendations are all nominees for the Diagram Prize for odd book titles. I always liked – The 2009–2014 World Outlook for 60-milligram Containers of Fromage Frais. Compelling characters, unexpected plot twists and a tragic denouement.

Filson – treated myself to a lovely Filson messenger bag, which wasn’t cheap, but it’s beautifully made. Emailed them to say the only thing I would change is to add one of the button handle clasps they have on bigger bags, and would I be able to buy one aftermarket. Instead they sent me one for free (from US PNW). Said it might take a few weeks to arrive; got it 2 days later. They’re really not cheap, but I’m a devotee now.

Watching with interest as I’ve just spunked more dosh than I’m comfortable with on a 120tpi.

I was in a similar place to you OP. Wanted to reduce intake as my Dad is very ill with type 2 diabetes, and I was probably on course for similar. Never seemed able to keep up any changes, so tried hypnotherapy. Worked from the first session, and was able to be as flexible as I wanted (still allowed desserts when eating out, for example).

Haven’t had any sweets in over a year, so it’s been very effective. I’ve recently decided to have my birthday ‘off’ every year, however, so will be in a haribo-induced coma by 10am next February…

She invented Coronation Chicken. While pleasuring a pig. On telly.

Was that the same year Usain Bolt ‘pleasured’ a pig on National TV?

The fact that Rebecca Loos appears in any set proves my point.

    Coronation chicken? Raisin-based deviant.

I think the answer was cheese and ham, though I was banging my head against the table at the time so my memory may have been adversely effected.

So is there no modern ‘proper’ general knowledge board game?

I live there, all of the above have fairly long bits on busy roads. Can email you some gpx files if you want, email in profile.

Ah, really wanted a physical edition, especially after getting the Charlie’s War hardback. Might make some calls and see if I can generate some interest…

Yes! That’s the one. The whole question was inspired by watching the Walking Dead as well, cheers!

Have Ones on one of my bikes, have Hutchinson Sectors (in 28 flavour) on another. Really like them, light and grippy so far. Have only ridden in the dry though, to date.

Use Ergon on both my rigid MTBs, really rate them. Their quality was highlighted for me a few weeks ago after I did a 60km ride on a Stache 5 I’d bought second hand. It still had the original Bonty grips and my hands were so sore after about 40km, and then hurt for about a day later. Put on some Ergons for my next ride and have had no hand or thumb pain since. Love their wee racey bar end type.

Good luck fella. I had beef with them over a five year period, they eventually admitted their repeated mistakes and gave me a £50 compo, which wasn’t really sufficient given the huge amount of time I had to spend dealing with some of the thickest oxygen thieves on earth. Fcktards, all of them.

I could write a book on how incompetent they are. Top tip – if you reach a dead end on an argument with them (and you will…), look up their board of directors and copy them into each and every reply. Soon sorts things out.

Rode over that bit of path twice yesterday, didn’t notice any glass or have any issues. And I can normally puncture through the power of thought alone…

    Is it defo glass?

Half remembered slander – was there not a big controversy about Uvex helmets a couple of years ago? Something about them fabricating their safety results? Won’t touch them since. Half remembered facts are the best facts.

Who did his jail time and stopped dealing. Hence an excellent example of highlighting the potential successes of rehabilitation. Sage point Pawsy.

Saw him speak in Aberdeen years ago,he was brilliant. To this day, don’t know if was staged, but halfway through there was a power cut and the lights went off for a minute or so. When they came on he’s still in exactly the same place, and just says “did that happen to you as well?”. Top guy.

Ah, thanks Mike. Was aware you were in Oz, but not Tassie, so presumed you were riding somewhere a lot dryer than here.

Useful info, thanks all. I’ve had a bike fit so I don’t think it’s set-up.

On Crank Bros, I’ve seen so many horror stories about them, are they actually any better now? Has anyone been using the new pedals in the UK over winter without constant rebuilds?

Hah, never heard of Forres having a good climate before! Though guess it gets a lot less rain than the hills. Good point in the MTB trails. Sanqhuar is great for an hour of pissing about with lots of other fun stuff all accessible off road.

I grew up there, moved away in 98, but my parents still live there so I’m back there a fair bit. Forres Academy is decent nowadays, and there seems to be much more to do for young ‘uns nowadays. However the community feeling seems to have mostly disappeared. Nairn seems so much livelier with more things going on. The High St is very dead and the whole place seems much quieter than back in the day. The up side of this is there seems to be a lot fewer fights at the weekend. Whereabouts in town are you thinking of staying?

I get to try them all through work. Not much difference in functionality on any of them. Never got into reading off any device yet, and it’s very possible they’ll become a niche over the next few years.
