Tricky, what are you planning to do over winter? I’m talking to idave about a training plan for racing next year. No chance of any winter track work up here for me since its an outdoor track 🙄

Thanks trickydisco 🙂 Its a 10 and meant to be a fast course – but i guess it depends on the usual howling gale up here! I’m a bit nervous about it having never done one before. Hows your racing going?

Have you emailed TSY or Druidh? They should be able to help.

Doing my first time trial tomorrow, no doubt in the pouring rain with a stupid early start. Sunday, either a 225km ride with 5000m of ascent with an equally horrible start time, or if i can’t get out of bed, something shorter.

Col de Petit Saint Bernard on a hustler and draggy tyres. Had been hoping to do Alpe D’Huez later this year but looks like we are going else where instead.

Yay, good to hear. I’ve got to head offski now but i will email or text later. Oh, i have a date for moving now (eeek) and a new bike on the cards as well! *looks out at the usual grey clouds appearing now its time to leave work and hopes i’m not in for a soaking*

Heh, i’m taking that as a sign things are going well then 🙂 Have you also been ignoring your new bike too? I’ve not been back yet, been feeling rubbish. Resting now for my first TT on saturday…meanwhile mustard’s decided to try to beat me on endo by riding to yorkshire on saturday since i’ll only be warming up and then riding 10miles….the lengths some peple will go to eh? 😀

i’d forgotten about the cough post silly hard efforts until i read your comment George – I’d better warn Druidh he’ll be riding with me and an awful cough on sunday then 😕 I’m planning on a warm up then hard as i can all the way rather than pacing, and i’ll also be trying not to drown if its as wet as the last forecast i saw!

I never pick my scabs but then i’m a girl so maybe its different. Have a nice one on my arm from a friction burn track riding the other day, which is currently feeling very tight/little bits flaking off.

I was caught out in it at lunch. How dark is it now? *waits for next lot of thunder* 😯

I nipped into town at lunch without a waterproof. Within seconds of setting off, there was a torrential downpour and hailstones. Would have been drier going for a swim!

Back in the office with freezing legs, bbrrrr.

Just out of curiosity, why are you using it less? Different type/intensity of training? I did similar but then came to the conclusion it hampered my recovery so came to a happy medium for the type of riding i’m doing atm.

Yup it is. And its fine. I’ve got a good website link to send you which compares stuff and pros/cons. Maltrodextin = pro on that website.

Ah, i don’t stand up to rest and i was very conscious of keeping the pedals turning! Think its a real shame we have an outdoor track here.

TSY, i’m not going there on a thread with mol and tj in it!

trickydisco, We got right to the top of our track but i dunno how high it is compared to ones down south. When i saw it in the morning, i thought there’d be no way i’d ride up there but by the afternoon all of us road at the top fine. This isn’t helping my desire to get straight back on the track this week! 🙁

I had no problem with riding fixed APART from the desire to stand up and rest for a bit to get blood flowing back to my balls – big nonon!

Assume you mean general fixie riding? On the track for the all out effort for a half lap we were told to ride standing up if we could…first standing start to half lap wasn’t good but knocked two seconds off my second one once i’d got used to standing up on the track bike.

Yup…i need a race road bike, winter road bike, fixie, 2 x mtbs, and a track bike! 😀

You can hire track bikes which is what we did – we had to give our road bike measurements and they were set up for us. I got off the bike after the first few laps shaking with the adrenaline from having no brakes/getting used to it – scary as anything riding on the wheel of someone and having to remember to resist the pedals to slow down! But was a lot easier than i expected…took a few laps to believe that my pedal wouldn’t hit the track pedalling in the corners too. And the Gs you get when you have built up speed for one fast lap…wow!!

Haha hopefully… a new gym membership has been purchased…

Oh? Different gym? *demands email with more gossip than the texts* 🙂

Mol, nope – it was a try the track day with coaches taking us through drills etc. There’s a thurs night training session up here that i’m going to go to – when its dry enough to ride that is 🙄 Apparently i’m suited to 8 lap team pursuits so keen to give that a shot, and i reckon i could love track racing big time. ATM i’m still planning to concentrate on road racing next year but that may change…i’m already after a fixie!

I’m interested to hear about the maltodextrin but i don’t want to get into a discussion about it. What thread was it on so i can go hunt?

Mol, i tried track on saturday for the first time. Ace doesn’t describe it! Can’t wait to go again. We got timed for half and full laps, standing starts and taught how to ride properly using the full track. Weird sensation riding above someone, or with someone riding above you!

Edit, TSY, funny, i could see you being very good at it. But i can see the appeal of IM and why you’d like that. Question is will you have time now what with your other interest? 😛

Mol – I’d say I have a track cyclists build… ain’t no way I’m getting into track riding except maybe to set a couple of PBs.

Why not? I loved it and can’t wait to go again….why edinburgh has to have an outdoor track i don’t know, it must only be used a handful of times a year! 🙄

Intervals and hill reps ftw, and some squats/leg press etc at the gym which i suspect you might already do? If you can find someone to do hill reps with who is your speed ish, then you will get much more out of it – sandy and i attack each other on hill reps and by the time we are at the top, both of us are ready to puke! I’d not work that hard if i was on my own. Make sure you rest enough (!) and eat well too.

Weight goes down if I don’t ride as much, and the riding that I do is not so good. If I ride more I need to eat more carbs and my riding improves, but my weight goes back to 84

That was what i found, although my weight is a lot less! I’ve just decided to live with it and ride lots since its not actually doing me any harm. Except my thighs no longer fit into my size 8 shorts but its muscle from speedwork 😕

Yup, tried track riding for the first time today. Awesome! So want a track bike and a fixie now. Scorching day here so glad edinburgh has an outdoor track 🙂

Am I missing out on some gossip?! *stamps foot and demands an email or text updating me* 🙂

Ta Mol, i’ll look into that. Two sets of climbing shoes are now living in my lounge as opposed to the car boot and i don’t want to come home one night and not be able to sit in the lounge 😐

About time too TSY 😉 Btw, climbed almost 60m high last night – beats bouldering any day!! I was shaking from the effort/adrenaline near the top…

Well I’ve been a climber, and you haven’t smelled smelly shoes until you’ve smelled smelly climbing shoes.

This. And at one of the places i climb, as soon as you walk in you can smell the sweaty shoes. *minging*

Mol, what did you use in your climbing shoes that helped? Talc not doing much on 3+ hour long climbing sessions!

My rules: Get out on your bike and have fun riding it.

Should this not be: get out on your bike in pink and white see through lyrca and have fun riding it on your own as your friends don’t want to ride behind you? 😛

    should I?

Yes you most definitely should. Motorbikes are hawt. Can i bagsy first backie? 🙂
