Fair enough, there might be hope then!

+1 needle file and 5 minutes, as lehutch says it’s soft alloy so very easy going, touch up with black marker, sorted.

Rubbish design IMO, got a Reba that intermittantly does it, tried lube, PTFE cables etc but it still does it from time to time.

Did you use a gear inner and brake outer, you should have?

Depending on the model you may be able to convert back to a fork mounted compression/lockout.

From what I can remember it’s just a case of disconnecting (unhooking)the return spring which is located in the damper cartridge and replacing the compression knob, don’t think it’s a big job.

    +1 on the glazed pads.

Something not right there, they’re shiny with what looks like uneven wear across the surface.

Cheers fellas, I think taking into account my lack of wheel building experience brass is going to be the sensible option.

From what I gather I’d be saving in the region of 20 grams a wheel over brass, even taking into account rotational mass I’m pretty sure I’m not going to notice 20 grams when I’ve just saved the best part of 200 grams on each rim.

I’m not a particularly hard rider but I do weigh close to 100kg all up. I think taking my weight into account reliability and longevity are going to win out over weight (although an important consideration), its not like I race or anything.

Once again thanks for your input.

@Funkrodent Not sure I’d bother with Nevegals, in terms of grip they’re decent tyres, however the side walls are bit flimsy imo.

Don’t think speed was the issue (although a contributing factor), poor road positioning on entry IMO.

In indy car racing, you get an aerodynamic boost when someone is behind you.
No idea if that translates to bikes

It does, Chris Boardman mentioned it at the track cycling a few weeks ago, technically I’d /they’d be doing you a favour.

I shall be expecting a hearty thank you next time, ungrateful barstewards. :D

I’ve always used Autoglym Super Resin Polish on my bikes, I never realised I was causing offence.

It helps prevent shit sticking and makes them easier to keep clean.

I’ve spent a considerable sum on bikes that I’d struggle to be able to afford replace, I’ll maintain them to whatever standard I see fit thanks.

Not seen anything worth buying at that price, Deore M590 would be my choice but they’re £58.00, worth it though imo.

Wish I’d known. I would have got the SLXs instead.

    Same here.

Aye, the new XTs (780s) are a pain especially with Hope levers as there’s no adjustment, I run them myself.

The SLXs look like the old adjustable 770 XTs, in terms of ergonomics they would be the better option.

I think Hope where working on new matchmakers to mate the 780s with their levers, wouldn’t hold your breath though.

Aye, just had a look, its a decender so yes new cranks as well.

Won’t be cheap to convert to a double, the Trex or similar will be by far the least expensive option.

Granny ring, front mech and shifter.

    What crank have you got?

It says compatible with XT or XTR cassettes – anyone know why it wouldn’t work with SLX?

Probably because SLX cassettes are only available in 11-28,32 or 34 and not 11-36.

edit: sorry wrong info I was thinking 9 speed

    That was close! :D

They’re both good until it goes wrong!

I’ve worked for both BT and Virginmedia (1st line support), Virgin are probably a bit quicker at resolving BB issues (unless its an oversubscribed router (UBR)), BT can be a pain to deal with due to the way the company is structured/fragmented.

    +1 on the worn cassette.

Adjusting the b screw has probably highlighted the issue due to having less less chain wrap.

Thinking about it, having the b screw adjusted all the way in could lead to premature cassette wear/slippage.

+1 for the bent ring/rings and or chain, could have happened last time it got jammed up.

Try not to change up the rings when going up hill, if you do then ease of the power until the chain is fully engaged.

In many cases the laws surrounding drug use do much more damage than the drugs themselves.

I don’t believe its in anyones interest to see an occasional cannabis user get slapped with a criminal record that they’ll have to carry around for life, it can make finding work difficult if not impossible.

A dog is considered out of control if it injures someone. The op states he was injured by the dog therefore the dog was out of control.

The “user” in this case should have been on it’s lead.

I agree with the above, I’m running 24/36 rings and also think 38 might be too much, you’ll just have to try it and see.

Bill, I have used Cyclo oil in the past with no issues, it doesn’t alter the fact that Magura oil rots Shimano seals, I suggest we both got lucky in our choice of oils.

It’s neither a seal issue or an oil issue, its an incompatibility issue between the two and it’s definitely not bollocks.

Maximum rotor size for XC32s is 210mm so you will be fine, no idea what the largest rotor the back will take though.
