FYI. Acycles where selling 26″ 3c EXO DHRlls for a very reasonable £26.00.

@nobeerinthefridge Basically it involves letting the air out of the forks and compressing them whilst at the same time pushing a cable tie down the side of the dust/oil seals, this releases the air displaced by the upper legs.

Problem with this is, as I mentioned above, when the forks are reinflated it creates a vacuum in the lower legs which acts like a secondary negative chamber…really not sure what the point of it is but it throws the balance out between the positive and negative air chambers, its utter bollox.

    Cool.

By bleeding the air out the lowers you’ve created a vacuum in the lower legs which is sucking the forks down, repeat air bleed/ zip tie procedure with forks fully extended.

That air bleed trick is bollox, it doesn’t work, it upsets the balance between negative and positve chambers which is what your experiencing. By doing what you have done you’ve effectively created a secondary negative air chamber in the lowers.

Andy, can you do this without worrying about bleeding etc?

Yes, use a plastic tyre lever or similar to force pads apart, fit wheel, pump lever to advance pistons.

Also new rotor with old pads will need to bed in again, some slight rubbing may occur until this is done.

Check the back of your chainset and see if it has four holes for bolting a granny ring to, if it does, bolt a granny ring to it, then fit a front mech and shifter.

Whats the bike/chainset/rear mech, give us clue?

Would be cheaper and far more effective doing hill reps (work on your weak points) Strava is good for monitoring your progress, setting goals, how close can you get to that local uphill Kom?

(Unless your at the absolute peak of fitness and are struggling to make any further gains).

What next, power stations, water pumps, medical equipment?

Possibly, weren’t the Israelies suspected of releasing malicious code that shut down Iranian centrifuges used in the production plutonium?

Arch EX here, 100kg, no issues to report.

Arch EX could well be stiffer than your old Flows due to an increase in nipple bed thickness, recommended spoke tension is up from 100kgf to 125kgf so should build into a stiffer wheel than your old Flows.

Not convinced Flow EXs are any stronger, profile/cross section looks exactly the same, just wider.

    Arch EX?

Took a chance on them as I weigh 100kg, I built a pair up with Dlights and Pro11 hubs and they’ve been fine, still running straight and true, weight is around 1700 grams. I’ve not had any problems fitting or removing tyres (maxxis and conti).

Crank Bros Multi here, had a Topeak something or other but the chaintool broke so didn’t invest in another.

With single pivots the pivot location and size of chainring will greatly influence how the bike pedals.

There’s more to it than just single pivot vs multi linkage vpp etc.

One thing I’d like to pick up on … how many of you folk come from families where there was someone with practical skills that you were able to learn from?

No, parents got divorced when I was young, no Dad about so was forced to learn how to do stuff myself, can remember servicing cup and cone bearings on my Raleigh Chipper, I must have been no older than 10.

…and remember to back off the pad adjustment screw first.

Oh, and if the pads are new then you may get some rubbing until they’ve bedded in.

Maxxis used to make 40a tyres that where known as slow reazay or slow rebound, its a property of the tyre its not imagination.

OP it talking about a difference in TPI. (Threads Per Inch) Which is how the carcass is made.

He’s also gone from pacestar to dual compound.

Imagining it? Hmmm. It is a very different bike my old one, and I’m not unhappy at all but have this nagging “plastic” thought going through my head when I “feel” the tyres rebounding.

Your not imagining it, it’s something I noticed when going from standard 60/70a to super tacky 42a (exactly the same tyres/construction), compound has a definite damping effect.

Don’t know what you can do about, less air pressure should equal less rebound.

The difference is more pronounced than the pound or so I’ve saved on my new wheelset.

Flow EXs are stronger than Flows.

Same profile as Flow just wider so how are they stronger then?

They were redesigned with more material around the nipple beds which allows for more spoke tension, pretty sure they upped it from 100kgf to 125kgf, you can see they’re thicker in that comparison photo above.

Thats ^ kin ridiculous, could they have made it any more complicated?

Think you need to work out whether you have inline or offset tabs.

CPS washers are needed between caliper and mount as stated in instructions, this depends on whether you have in line or offset tabs, think you might have to read the instructions.

My old cleaner even back in 2009 was on £10 an hour (cash), more now.

I’d be happy to clean your house for £10.00 an hour, I must be in the wrong buisness.

My hypotheses is different – tax rates are now so high that there has been a surge in the number of people who choose to be self employed – many of these have been forced off unemployment benefit and into non sustainable business ventures and are now claiming working tax credits instead

    FTFY.

As mentioned above, have a look at the Madison Flux, its a Spoon with a bit more padding and kevlar reinforcements on the sides, more suited to the rigours of MTB than the Spoon imo.

My assumption was that a very short stem with a steep (for 2015) head angle might make the steering very sharp.

Your assumption is correct, surprised no ones reccomend 800mm bars yet.

Buy a head unit then buy a Solarstorm battery box and whatever batteries take your fancy.

You shouldn’t need a charger as they can be charged in the battery box via USB cable.

Kaidomain have the new USB battery boxes in stock.

Good road riding, crap mountain biking.

Since when has 2500m of off road descending been crap?

OP, I would recommend speaking to Lavatracks (above) don’t know whether Darren is still there but he/they went beyond their remit after I fell ill.
