Well done, that’s a fair old whack in my book.

I had the 1st gen Archi-Enduro – it was ok but venting was poor and there were concerns over the durability of the chin bar, so I was kind of relieved to write it off in a crash without doing ym mouth in.

Same here, they were/are shit, I wrote mine off (chin bar).Gives you all the confidence of a full face but without the protection.

Not being sarky, I just always wind them in as far as they go and then never adjust again.

Same here, not like reach changes with altitude :?

@220psi check the air pressure, mine was doing that, the air pressure had dropped.

No issues with mine in over three years, other than the air needing to be topped up.

The suspension companies want your money

I don’t think they do, they’ve already had my money, its all about generating new cutomers and new money.

I don’t know anyone with a reverb who hasn’t had to get it replaced under warranty

There are a lot more people that own them that you don’t know, than know.

    You don’t know me and I haven’t. :D

And when I say “drop”, I mean “force”.

Very little force required to do that.

Same happened to me when I fitted a new post to my brand new Orange 5 frame, didn’t know until I pulled it out, but yeah unacceptable finishing on the part of Kona and in my case Orange.

Was bidding on an SLX rear mech last week that sold for 29.00, you can but a new one, on ebay, for only 6.00 more.

Garmin segments, does it run on a smartphone?

    no

Suspect this is the main reason Strava is much more popular.

I change at .75 and get three chains to a cassette.

    xt cassette and expander

Was that 500 miles with b knuckle screwed all the way in and little in the way of chain wrap?

a bit of bouncing up and down on the handle it’ll go well past the range of the gauge with no apparent risk*

    Aye that’s the technique. :D

Yeah will be OK, takes a bit of effort once you get to 60-65, even 80s doable (just).

A chain retention device would be more reliable, I’ve never dropped a chain on my “standard ring” setup.

There is no reason to have them on public display outside of work, and if you can’t remember where it is unless it’s wrapped around your neck..hmm

I suspect some see them as an indicator of social standing/self importance.

    or Mech setup..

Mech should be mounted as low as possibe so as to “enclose the chain”, not using a triple mech are you?

Failing that a stinger or clutch equipped rear mech.

    Yes

That really surprises me . I’ve had plenty of instances of people in the wrong front chainring trying to change onto the small ring but not willing to back off the power resulting in twisted or broken chains

Now you mention it I do recall two instances of just that, changing up under power and twisting a link, the two riders involved have zero mechanical skills and zero mechanical sympathy and was most likely caused by rider/ poorly setup front mech.

It’s just not as big an issue as people are trying to make out, personally speaking it’s a non issue, it really is.

the chain wouldn’t get sucked in and jam between the chain stay or the chain wouldn’t just jump straight off into the BB and jam in the mech.

That’s a setup issue it’s not the fault of the front mech and is not typical of other peoples experience.

    Don’t blame the front mech!

In 15+ years I cannot recall either myself or any of my riding friends having issues with the front mech, far more likely to have issues with rear mech, brakes, chain or indexing.

Yeah, o-ring under cap needs replacing or top cap needs tightening.

I had already has that in the ‘cons’ list

Rotating mass isn’t the same as unsprung weight, although in this case accounts for part of it.

9 speed 250gram XT to 11 speed 450gram XT, assuming the weight for 11 speed cassette is correct.

    Anything I’ve missed?

200 grams of unsprung mass your adding to the rear wheel.

To be fair, 1× does free up lots of space to get suspension working properl

A 450gram cassette on the end of your swing-arm will certainly get your suspension working.

Oh.. and have you tried your mates axle?

    dirtydog
    Free Member

f this is the case my ‘free space’ does not go when the QR is tightened, the lowers will still move on the axle

Aye sounds like a different issue, my QRs tighten down onto the axle, although there is still a gap between non driveside leg and hub which I believe is normal.

You’ve not overtightened the QR bolts and cracked the lowers around clamping zone have you, a common occurence I believe?

Can you unscrew the axle with both QRs done up?

Is it just me that thinks the recommended shimano chain length is too short? They suggest big-big plus 2 links,

Can only speak for myself, but I’ve never had an issue with +2 links, then again I don’t use a clutch rear mech, seen far too many failures on here.
