Really knackered both my knees up.
Switching to flats is the only way I can keep some of the pain in check, by moving my feet around on the pedals.
Tried Crank Bros Candy pedals for more float but rode fifty yards up the road and knew it wasn’t going to work.
She should try what my knee surgeon told me and “don’t ever kneel down”.
    Helpful.

    Sisters Of Mercy are brilliant.
NIN are off this planet when playing live.

Everyone here sounds a like they’ve done a whole lot more rewarding things than I have.
I’m sure that given time to think, most of us have probably made even a small difference to someone else’s life even if they haven’t realised it at the time.
Makes me feel quite small all the same.

    Check it out on colossal.com.
She’s won the competition for about the last four years in a row.
Even the stuff she was doing when she was thirteen is astounding!

Washed them down with a litre of M&S chocolate milkshake, but that’s healthy because it’s got lots of calcium in it…maybe?
For the record, tried a bag of Maoam Pinballs once and they made my face screw up into a ball. Sharp as hell.

Definitely looking forward to Carter at Brixton.
Can I also chip in with EMF?
Saw them supporting Carter a few years ago and they were awesome. Like they’d never been away.
Shame that the only song that anyone’s ever heard is ‘Unbelievable’.

    You’re just showing off.
    A Nicolai and a Yeti ASR5c?
You need to give them both to me and I’ll lend you my 575.

No way I’m going for cup and cone hubs again.
I’m sure they’re great if you take them apart once a month and service them, but the XT one I had was so badly sealed it just filled up with crud and wore the hub out.

    Does this actually work then?
Was tempted by the availability and cheapness of spare parts but the clicky noise just puts me off.
On a separate note, don’t seem to be able to find where you’d get spares for a goldtec hub?
Can’t seem to find prices for free hub etc online.

I was looking at the DT Swiss hub as a possible.
    Never even heard of Goldtec.
Will definitely have a look at them.
    Cheers.

My dad used to have a tripwire tied to the door of his workshop and a dirty great sledgehammer hanging from the ceiling.
He must have watched a certain Macaulay Culkin film or something?
We had to tell him to lose it or he’d get arrested/sued by the burglar.
    Like his style though.

We used to have a fancy gas one and I decided to go back to charcoal like ‘real’ men use.
If you get the chimney starter I don’t think it takes any longer to heat up.
Just buy one, cook something lovely and tell the wife it would never have tasted like that with gas.

I had one in the loft.
Crept up the loft ladder, twatted it with a golf club then ran away very fast.
    Sorted.

He’s daft for not reading it properly. Not your problem. Might be a bit cheeky to offer him the shock for it though.

I bought some AKG’s after posting on here, and I have to say they sound amazing for the money.

Maybe I’ll have a look at the freewheel too while I’m at it then.
Seems fine when I’m back pedaling.
    American Classic hub not Mavic.
    Maybe I’ve overtightened something?
Bust clutch spring on mech probably not helping much. Chain came off twice last night.

    Yeti 575 frame.
I have bust the tension spring on the clutch for the rear mech but I presumed you could just turn that off anyway and it would act like a normal rear mech? Must be wrong then. I’m now presuming this is the cause along with maybe a slightly stiff cassette?

Just come back from our Christmas ride at Swinley. I’m so unfit I manages to cramp up in both thighs, then I lost both brakes and had an “over the bars” moment into some trees.
    Good fun ride though.

A biking mate has just picked up a 2013 146s for not a lot over a grand and he thinks it’s amazing. Everyone else has noticed how much faster he is on it too.

Ask Andrew on the Yetifan site. If anyone’s going to know, it’s him.

It’s actually a drainage pipe which comes from the other houses in our road and passes under our front garden. We’re just trying to find the exact position of it because we want to build a timber garage, and are not allowed to build anything over the drainage pipe in case they ever need to dig it up?

    dingabell

Does anyone happen to know if you can hire those things that they use to find pipes/cables etc before digging up roads? I’m getting knackered now.

I’ll keep going down then. Bugger 🙁 Maybe I’ll strike oil?

Was hoping to buy/build one up for around a grand. The cheaper the better really. I know Kona Stinkys seem to be about the cheapest you can get but I was interested in anything else which might come within budget? Iron Horse Sundays seem to crop up a lot but I’m not sure if they’re a little too “DH” and slack for me? Really wanted something a little more “bike park” if that makes sense?

If I just bought a frame, what forks are reasonably priced to go on it? I’ve got Fox on my XC bike but I know nothing about longer travel forks. Are there any to steer well clear of or any that are unsung heroes?

Can’t believe you only payed £370 for your Scott Voltage. What a bargain. I had seen the Entourage on Chain Reaction but I think I’d need a large size which is a shame as it looks really nice. Don’t really see many come up second hand either. I have had a look on Pinkbike and there seems to be a lot on there. I hadn’t even thought about a Marin. Will go check them out right now.

Sounds good advice then. Won’t be parking a car in there so doubt I’d need the mesh but you’re right……for the cost it sounds worth putting in the DPM. I need to calculate costs of hardcore, concrete and skip/grab loader hire now. I presume for the amount of effort it’ll take, no one would bother mixing the concrete themselves in a mixer?

    dingabell

Looking at the diagram, would you suggest a DPM between the hardcore and the concrete? Will damp really get through a 6ins slab of concrete?

I don’t think I’ve ever bothered to check a trail out on a normal ride before I’ve ridden it. You just presume it’s basically going to be the same as it’s always been, and if some slight changes have been made, you hope you’ll see them with enough time to change your usual line etc. I wouldn’t say this was your fault by any stretch, it’s just the nature of the beast sometimes. Get well soon mate.

If it repels oil then maybe a water based garage floor paint would work? If you’re parking a car in there, be prepared for it to start peeling off though.

Have a look at Paul’s Cycles website. Plenty on there for that money or less depending on size required?

I’m really allergic to wasp stings so that’d be a nightmare for me. Wherever I get stung swells up and goes as hard as wood. I know where my wife would like the little buggers to sting me. 😀

Yeti lock ons at the moment. Maybe I should stick with thinner gloves and get some new grips? Not sure what softer compound grips are any good?

    dingabell

I have tried those new fangled suspension fork thingies but sadly I’m a bit of a wuss and still want a bit of palm comfort. My gloves I use at the moment are bog standard non padded ones. New grips would probably help I suppose? Or I could just MTFU.

That’s why I love this forum. It’s a fountain of useful information and all for free.
Will use my time wisely next week, take all this good advice and start my plan of action.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

    Surrey…and I don’t drive an Audi.
Will have a look at the WordPress site and set something up.
£20 per month to promote on Google sounds good.
I’ve got Yell phoning me every five minutes now, so maybe I’ll give them a miss?
Does anyone think the local freebies would be worth a go even though they start at around the £100 an issue mark?

    They look delicious!
    I must track some down.

It totally freaks my wife out….but so do clowns, ventriloquist dummies, masks of any kind and those laughing puppets in the glass boxes that you get on seaside piers.

The bike will be used mainly for burlier stuff and uplift days so an increase in travel/weight wouldn’t be a problem then. Will have a look at the Sektor and Lyric now. Thanks for all the feedback.

Sounds like revs are the replacement forks of choice then. £200 second hand would be about right budget wise. Does it change things going from 140mm to 150mm? Can’t really see it making a lot of difference? Also what is the black box function on the revs for?
