Great bike, I have had Giant Trance 2 for 3 years and got mine at the start of the summer. 600 miles in and it is still fantastic. You can pick the 2009 on up new for £1600 which makes it a bargain. BUY ONE!

Fred, where were they taken from?
I have a mate who had his shed broken itno recently in Cheltenham looking for his bikes.

Nah no cheaper, infact it is cheaper to use one of their dealers. I got this through a friend who won a discount voucher at one of the Merida marathons earlier this month.

Direct from Merida. Only 22.5 lbs so my mates better watch their backs.

The carpet is actually an old bath panel that we ripped out as Dad is fitting a wet room instead. Bloody parents!

Garage is tidy as that is where the car lives. Got these two crammed into a corner next to a work bench. Not ideal really

I never thought I would say this but "The Trek is going to be used as my hacker". The Merida will be kept preped for Southern XC races, Mountain Mayhem and the Merida's.

Nickc, saddle has not been adjusted yet as it took me a while to set it all up so that will be done tomorrow I hope.

The geometries are different as the Merida is a hardcore race bike but doesn't look that different.

Need the helicopter tape to arrive before I can get out on it.

My advice would be not to bother with Cwmcarn. If you are an XC whippet and can climb and downhill well it is brilliant. But as for beginners I would avoid. You need to boost new riders confidence not shatter them.

Try an easy Afan adventure, aviod Glwncorg and stick to the old visitor centre as advised above.

I think for all your hard work, you deserve a new bike to add to the collection.

I don't actually have it yet. It is being built, but just wanted a guide as it's rather expensive stuff. And would like to get it this weekend so I have it for when it arrives.

I notice they don't state the brakes and the forks are now 120mm rather than the special 130mm from this year.

    How much are they?

Got home insurance with Lloyds TSB and they do my bike insurance. £13 a month covers all my bikes up to £7500 either home or away as long as they are locked up and if in a car covered with a blanket.
All the expensive bikes have to be registered with Make, Model, Serial Number etc and they do expect pictures of where they are stored and pictures of the lock if/when you claim so you can't pull a fast one.

I know what she is like. Agree that a heavy bike will win no friends. Trouble is, they are all heavy at that end of the scale.

I know I will be slated, but what about the Halfords Apollos tht they currently have on offer. Yes they are crap component wise but the bike wont see much use.

Afan will always be the main riders choice on here. As for which part of Afan, this will depend on how fit and confident you are. Glyncorrwg is the palce to go for a good all day ride if you are fit and confident.

As for B&B have a look for previous Afan threads using the search box top right.

You need to mother fox forks. Treat them like a little baby.

GT85 is what I use. Spray the stations and leave for a few minutes. Pump the forks up and down to allow the lube to partially enter the dust seal. You will now see a nice thick rims of mud grit and crap. Clean that off and then respray and do the same. There should now be no marks being formed and then when you next use them you should get a light lube mark that you can clean off after the ride.

I do this every time I come in from a ride and have done it with all my forks.

Yeah 15 hours they say to take the lower legs off, clean, add new dust and foam seals, add 7ml or near that of oil and do back up.

Depends on fit and also what the running gear is. Spesh is nice but you know that REPSOL may be a 1 off and a bet it is light as.

Yep, hence why you need to get them serviced every 15 hours of riding!

Or, just keep adding a small amount of PTFE lube after every ride, spray, cycle them clean and then add another small squirt and clean.

Then every 5 rides store upside down for 24 hours to keep the inner foam seals wet.

    How much?

just dirty seal tops mate. Get some PTFE lube and lightly spray the stanstions. Cycle them up and down a few times, give a good wipe an repeat. Now store the bike upside down for 24 hours and away you go.

Wind them right the way out so they are loose and then play with them from there.

The last thing you want to do is come to a junction, need to stop and can't get out as you are new to them.

I see what you mean as there a profile grooves on the inner rings, but I still have a few teeth side by side that are really only half a tooth.
