Anthony, I got the Laser Comp a few years ago at such a good deal the weight saving to pounds spent wasn’t worth it plus it’s bright red.

I’ve been strapping the bike together and will get the whole thing up later this week.

I have that book, I’m not pooing in a can and carrying it out!

Anthony, no issue this end 🙂 But how many seats does your bike have as you have a underseat bag and a saddle bag?
    What food are you taking?

maps not taking, a few prints of memory map will do, maybe on waterproof paper, if rain is likely.
Take a file to the Optimus crux and you’ll get 10g off it, the block is over engineered.
Gps is looking like Suunto X10 which is wrist mounted
Haglofs pants will be swapped for OMM Kamleika if wet.
If weather forecast is really warm i’ll go with a Mont Bell Down Hugger UL #6 and save some weight.

Is any one taking a trowel for burying their number 2? I’m undecided yet.

1kg+ of clothes! Waterproof is 300g, add the down half sleeve @200g, Intense pants are under 250g and if weather is good are probably staying in the car when i leave same goes for the down warm weather it won’t be needed. Pertex is silly light. Tent, mat, quilt, cooking inc meths and a Lhoon is 2-2.1kg. Most clothing is going to worn, X Bionic is good in that you don’t feel hot or cold. So I’ll be wearing, shorts, riding shirt, x bionic base. helmet, arm & leg warmers. 1st aid is sub 100g with pills, repacked in aloksak. What else do i need, it’s a bike ride around wales! Never too far from a road so i’m not needing to carry much.
Food is the weight I agree, but with Machynleeth and Dolgellau on the way why carry food? Makes no sense to me, pack food is pretty lousy and a full breakfast or pizza will easily fuel you for riding, 1:25 maps will show pubs.
Add in the fact a Optimus crux and gas will weigh less than Meths and Burner I can loose more weight there too. Leave out stuff bags, etc. sub 5kg is achievable if you have the gear.
The plan is to come in with a fully loaded bike at around 35lb, it gives 9-10 lbs of luggage and gear to get on board.

1kg a day? No, energy drink powder weighs very little, and dehydrated expedition meals weigh sub 200g a meal. Add a few gels and buy food wherever I find it, saturday evening I’ll be passing through Machynlleth so will grab a pizza, eat and keep going. Dean Karnazes eats junk whilst running, it’s just energy you need, so jelly babys and gels will work! The cooking is purely boil water, so 250ml meths will suffice, by monday I’ll be heading back in, so only really need to worry about sunday, and I have plans to breakfast in Dolgellau.

Bike spares; instant patches and tyre boot, supersonic tube, small multitool, sram link, spare disk pads

Quark is effectively mozzie net on a gore style layer; one of the ligtest waterproofs ever made, Haglofs intense pants are lightweight, as for the pertex stuff it’s very light, mont bell half sleeve is 200g. Clothing will be finalised based on forecast.

    Drybags are Aloksak.

Both the Haglofs and Aarn packs are adventure racing packs, and devoid of any extras, so pretty purposeful.

Everything is pretty much adventure racing ultralight gear, as I’ve been using this stuff for years in the mountains. It’s only 48 hours out on a bike with a few camps so it’s a case of how little can I do without 🙂 The bike is fully rebuilt and had a 120k shake down yesterday, so no worries there hence so little spares!

Debating how far am I prepared to ride in dark to get to where I plan to be?

The biggest weight is the Revelate Viscacha on the seat post!

Great day out, bloody tiring though! Just going to get my knee checked out, lovely hole in it thanks to gravel getting jammed in my cleat:) Did my own 120k route, wasn’t up for the 132k, the 102k was a little short, so I got lost a few times.

Pack is either Haglofs Endurance or Aarn Marathon Magic, things like first aid are Adventure medical UL + handful of diclofenac and painkillers, food can be covered with cash on the whole, GSI make a cool java drip but starbucks instant comes in one cup sachets, Expedition dehydrated food is pricy, so maybe a few breakfast biscuits and one main just in case, trousers for anti midge and cafes are Haglofs intense pants. I’ll wear a x bionic base all trip with cycling shirt over it, and use x bionic arm and leg warmers, assos endurance pad shorts. Only luxury is two spare pairs of socks. 8)

    Food; dehydrated.
clothing; Mountain Hardwear Quark, Rab UL down hoody or Montbell Down half sleeve, Montane ultralight pants, Rab pertex windshirt

I had a Sweep XC and loved it, vented so well! It died in a branch head incident, and couldn’t ind another one quickly, as I would happily had another.

Currently using Giro Athlon, I like it again vents well although the white with green flames is a little bright!

On One have a deal on them currently

Having lost my routes due to a software glitch, the new route is 114km with 4700m up.

If weather is good the gear is weighing in circa 4kg complete with tent & food 😀 The Lomo bags recommended on here, the 12l can easily hold a tent, sleeping bag and mat.

Is the campsite at Cringoed any good, need somewhere to sleep on Friday night and potentially Monday night?

I’ve been on Furious Freds for weeks 😀 I’m actually thinking Racing Ralphs with a Nobby Nic maybe on front if the rain comes.

Tabata training, 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest repeat x8 or until you puke.

Better on foot or with a kettlebell, than a bike.

All 15 in 171km on memory map, I’m not revisiting the main route now, just going to come up with abort routes for bad weather or dead legs!

I agree those two are a bit off route, the other 13 can make a nice route, point D is a detour, but point 3 is really out of the way!

Clockwise if fine weather, wanna be west of Cadair first night 🙂 And I’ve plans for eating, if weather is wet and windy, i’ll have alternative plotted.

    Footpaths, are they fair game?

    Are the grid refs safe???

I just looked up a starting grid ref so check out this page

    http://www.forestfreeride.co.uk/pages/FAQ2.html

    Where are you based?
North Powys in mid Wales. We are approx 24 miles north west of Newtown, Powys, 13 miles north of Llanidloes, 12 miles east of Machynlleth, 34 miles inland of Aberystwyth and 34 miles south of Coed-y-Brenin (compass points are approx). Our postcode is SY19 7BH (put this into Google Earth, Google Maps or any other postcode search facility for an accurate location). OS Explorer map 215, grid ref: SH871975. Detailed directions will be sent to you with the booking confirmation.

Yet memory map and an online route planner are both giving me that grid ref as being 18.6km north of Colwyn Bay.

Anybody else having that issue? Do I need a pack raft?

Plenty of riding in Ashridge along wide with rambler dodging, other side of A41 you have Wendover. Longer distance rides head over towards Chesham/Amersham area.

I use Steripen if in doubt but to be honest in Europe I normally risk it just pick a fast running source and check for dead critters upstream.

Is that the one with mesh posckets and compression elastic you are after? I have one I don’t use, been used a handful of times and is orange.

I’ve reheated food using the boil in the bag method with food decanting to ‘pour and store’ bags. Worked ok, the bag pulls out at the bottom so it stands well.

Start taking Vitamin B1 and build a resistance to the midges, and get on to your local Avon lady and order Skin So Soft spray moisturiser. Midges hate it and you’ll have great looking fragrant skin whilst bikepacking.

Gels, bars and sweets for riding. Expedition Foods dehydrated each evening, w/ plenty of fluid.

Breakfast will be based on village shops when I plan a route.
