    JB.
The showers werent much better than the hose I would have guessed – probably more powerful although a lot colder!
I think I finished in around 11 hrs ish. Pretty pleased to be honest although my bike is now in need of serious TLC. Replacing all the front chain rings is first priority. I also somehow managed to gouge a hole in my chain stay protector ont he underside and didnt realise until yesterday! Must have given it a right bash. I guess you'll be going back next year then? I really enjoyed it! You reckon it was harder than soloing SITS? Thinking of doing that one next year….

if its in chalk, I wouldnt be so sure of the above.
Get the CIRIA document entitled "Engineering in Chalk".
    nightmare material!
also, I think theres a document called "Engineering in Weak Rock" or something similar.

An N value from a SPT test equates rougly to an allowable bearing pressure (qa)of around 210kPa.

This is derived from a chart, but can be represented by (roughly)
    qa=10.5N'B where width B<1m

Not sure if this is what youre after?

Because unless you in some way helped it, what have *you* to be proud of?

In the same way that if your mother or father, by some chance, won a major sporting event. They started training for this etc before you were even born, thus you had "nothing" to do with it. IF they then won Gold/world championship/whatever, you wouldn't feel proud?!

Why can't you feel pride in somebody elses achievements?!

JB – I think you were the guy I was talking to with my girlfriend on the campsite. I think she commented on the amount of rice you'd eaten for your tea after we pitched our tent next to yours.
How'd you get on? Think I saw you walking dwon fromt he steps at the castle at the end but didnt catch you for long.

my computer came in at 108 something, although, like you say, not sure if I set the tyre size correctly.
Had a brillian time. no qualms with any organisation issues. thought it was faultless for a first time. I'll definitely be back next year! :-)

Nice. Ive got a killer bee from lat years range. Love it – climbs nice and fast as well. Focus knocks out another good value bike!

I ride an 08 Killer Bee. Best spec I could find at the time. I was after an alu frame as well which helped! I absoloutely love it. Service fromw iggle was excellent after I ordered a large and onl;y needed medium. They sent a courier down and exchanged it for me free of charge. Which one are you looking at? I certainyl think theyre hard to beat value wise. Only downside is that the paint is perhaps a little thin in places and has chipped under the seat collar……

Geotechnical Engineering. Designing foundations for offshore wind turbines, gas platforms, jack ups etc. Bit of a blend of engineering and the environmentally/geography/soils world.
Studied at Newcastle Uni. Was an MSc though – or are you looking for undergrad courses?

I am starting to reconsider my opinions. I know its the first of its kind etc and it takes lots of organising – maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction at seeing £50 for one race. what was entry at mayhem by the way for solo?

    dickydutch

    cheers for that guys!

You going to be there then Marty? Just fail to see how 50 per entry is justified. Im not saying its wrong or unjust. A hot meal per person and a t-shirt etc, plus some tape to direct the occasional section of the route doesnt cost 50 quid does it?! Most races cost 20-30 pound and im sure dont require 100% more organisation, man power or resources.

Not sure I agree with the idea that more miles equals greater cost. You can enter a sportive at 100 miles with food, energy gels and drinks etc at 4 stations, yet this costs twenty quid. How is it justified to increase the cost by more than 100% because its offroad? Im not saying I wont be entering – just find 50 quid to be steep. whats cost of entering Leadville or similar?

hmmm. might be worth trying. I was about to say how good UKbikestore were (where they came from), as there had been a problem with my order at their end. They rang me to confirm etc and were excellent! You dont have to give reasosns to refund do you?!

A1 north aitn much better around catterick – plenty of trucks overtaking at 60mph. can get bad tailbacks. its worth it though to finish in Newcastle!!

miketually – * [/quote]Wearing a helmet increases the perception that cycling is dangerous. this leads to less people riding, which makes the roads a more dangerous place.

not sure i fully agree with that one.

Mine aren’t uncomfortable and/or awkward either?!

I guess it’s a case of whatever you’re used to.

Out of interest miketually, do you have a link to the study regarding drivers passing riders with helmets more closely. not so I can argue the toss with you – just interested!
