I dont know if you're a road rider too, but if you are, I'll be out on Saturday with Gosforth RC if you fancied a blast. Were usually back for 1230 too. I'm avoiding Chopwell at the moment because of the christmas tree sales that are on there at the moment. AS per RudiBoy though, if you want some pointers, then I'll drop you a line. Last time I was there (3 weeks ish back), the loggers were in and it was pretty churned up, almost to the point of it being unrideable. Plus, other areas were fenced off. Let me know either way!

Or, when (if) the thieving scum are caught, chemically castrate them. The threat of being caught would certainly put me off then!

That looks lovely! I wish I had the space/time to refurb a Series 1.

I'm sure this was advertised last year too. A year in a job isn't such a long time. Maybe it's not as good as it sounds?!

You'd have to weigh up the cost (in terms of CO2 exenditure) of using new parts (body panels, mechanical parts) against the CO2 cost of producing a new car, and the cost associated with scrapping the car being replaced. My money still lies with the Land Rover. But I am biased. Very biased.

I thought there was a budding Boardman in the house!
My commute is 17 miles each way. Takes around 50 minutes because of traffic lights etc. Do it 4 days a week – Fridays off so to be fresh for Saturday's ride!

    32miles in 50 minutes?! That's a hell of a pace…..

To follow on from thisisnotaspoon –
70% of all land rovers are still on the road. Surely this offsets the carbon they have produced during their lifetime against the expenditure involved in making it. A longer than shelf life than the vast majority of all cars says a lot in my eyes.

I agree with robdob. A month's salary seems to be an overkill. WHat's more, I know my SO doesn't expect that. I think lots of people pray on "wedding fever". In much the same way that the average wedding costs thousands of pounds. What a load of old tosh. I'm all for a nice ceremony, but theres no need for it to cost thousands. In my mind anyway. Money better spent on a longer honeymoon!

Definitely not Japanese!! Ive got a TD5 90 defender – All the claims about the electrics and ECU being fallible to faults etc, have been proven to be completely unfounded. The Defender will be easier to work on yourself and relatively free of complicated systems such as the air suspension found on the Discovery. Motorway cruising in the defender might not be as comfortable as the discovery though!?

If it were me, and I was ferrying kids around etc, I'd probably go for the Disco. BUT, I'd be always wondering how good the defender would have been.

    Sorry – not much help

Im really impressed with the place. Only ridden it with gears but next time I'll be on singlespeed – shouldnt be too much of a problem I wouldnt have thought. I'll be there xmas eve on the way to the parents from newcastle if anybody is down that way then…..

Cateye micro wireless fits the bill for me. Plus, you can put it on a road bike and account for the increased wheel size. Definitely recommend it.

I did my time there too as a student. Sercvice was carried out ont he whole by clueless drongo's. On the plus side, I learnt loads with regards to servicing my own car and doing repairs from an old timer who worked there as he had retired from being a mechanic. Stood me in good stead for the rest of me life I reckon.

Get one!Nowhere near as slow or un-economical as people make out. (TD5 anyway). You can easily surprise boy racer nuggets at the lights as long as you can change the gears quick enough! 1st and 2nd dont seem to be that long. God I love that car.

Was on the road this morning. Hefty crash on black ice left me with bruised arm, but really enjoyed it. Sunrise was spectacular!

SO it can only really be eiher the piston being more recessed into the caliper or Shimano hoses being crap. I'd put my money on the recessed idea and will be changing it tonight!

Surely the distance of the brake line shouldn't matter? As long as the pipes are full, the same amount of pressure should result in the same amount of fluid movement and therefore the same piston movement at the caliper end?
Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick…….

I think so yeah. I reckon I'll be soloing SITS too so should see you there! Might consider mayhem although they're all a fair old drive away! I've just unearthed a turbo for a winter of fun…….. Are you going to be doing any of the shorter course stuff? Whinlatter and Grizedale challenges were good this year.

90 TD5 used as a daily vehicle here too. Best money I've ever spent. Although its nto comfortable. and there isnt that much space in the back (even with no seats) although it will easily swallow two bikes with front wheels off and then you hose it out afterwards!
I absolutely love it and can't honestly see myself having a 'proper' car again at the moment!
A big plus for me was to be able to do the majority of the jobs on it myself. That link posted above is excellent if you need any advice. theres also http://www.lr4x4.com (which you probs already know about). The tech archive on there is pretty comprehensive!

People who think it acceptable to chuck a fag theyve finished with on the floor and then stand on it to ensure its not still burning. Pick it up you degenerate!
People who seemingly shave their entire bodies in the shower cubicle at work. Frigging animals.

yep spiders is the one. Many a memory of that place.
Used to live in a village near to Beverley for 18 years (20 mins from beverley). Its actually not as bad as people make out (Hull, that is) and Beverley is nice enough. Pretty flat yeah, but means you can just go further!
