I can honestly say as a class 1 truck driver of 11 yrs I’ve never known a truck generally drive as well as a volvo. The company I work for changes their units every 2 yes for new ones and we’ve had volvo fh13 460’s For 4 years now, and you don’t even need the foot brake on them, the engine/exhaust brake combined can bring you to a stop fully loaded.
Yes 5 axle combo is 40 tons as I drive a 6 axle combo at 44t which is the usual uk standard.

if im ever in the market for a new car, it will be a volvo.

Pointless as volvo trucks is volvo, but volvo cars are owned by a chinese company called Geely Automobile Holdings.

All in aid of a local charity ‘Compton Hospice

A excellent cause too. We donate loads of stuff to charity shops instead of selling on ebay and it’s always compton we take it too. They do a great job! Good luck!

And if you post your “cheeky trails” to endomundo etc the landowner can find you easily and prosecute because you’ve supplied them with the evidence they require! Time/date and the track you followed/made.

I opened the door pretty much where the manhole cover is just at the junction start, the cycle lane had only just started.

Yea I can see her skid marks in the road still. 😀

i remember being saved by one?

The trees may have saved your bike, but they really tried to wreck your crown jewels as the back end flipped up iirc! 😀 but as least you wasn’t on the floor!

I do remember the front washing out on me a couple of times on the berms but managed to save it.

Spending the £17 on the Snakes allows you or to run a sealed cable without having to drill, as the full length inner fits through the cable stops.

I considered doing it that way before taking the dremmel to the frame, but the liner is quite flimsy stuff and I reckon it’d be quite easy to snag particularly getting my other (commuter) bike in/out if the shed in the dark or even just general use like putting it on/off bike carrier. At least with full outers it’s fully protected. It suits me and don’t regret it for a second. 🙂

They’re far better than open cables IMO. Nowhere near as much rubbish gets in and if you get good cable, like Fibrax stuff, then it’s still really smooth.

Agreed! Possibly the best mod so far! I’m shifting gears now not mud and crap!

    And no one died! 🙂

Cheers for the ride fellas. Dry, dusty and sunny, almost felt like Spain!

I had a fab time. Just a shame I was tired unfit today. Although my mrs was happy as we got out the house for the afternoon on time and turned out to be a great day.

But thanks to you both for the company, shame I didn’t have the time to stay and have a cuppa at the end.

    Dave

edit: matt, can you drop me a email please? Can’t see your addy in profile. Thx

+1 for drilling out and flying snakes!

I used a dremmel, use insulation tape to mask the frame (use plenty) and a steady hand. I did this a couple of months ago after I was sick of cleaning shitty cables that would let me shift.

there is a event on but its all off piste the dog and monkey are unaffected by this. You only cross over their paths twice I think and you may get halted by marshals but not for long. There is info on their facebook page regarding this.

ok cool. I usually park on the main car park. But I think I know where you’re on about… Know in me I’ll end up in a car park full of doggers. *remember not to knock on other car windows asking if they want a ride*

bought it after a night on the ale, arrived three days later along with other crap I’d bought that night

Beer + internet + credit/debit card = dangerous! I’m not allowed on the internet after a few drinks….

Could be the start if a new thread “what have you bought online while drunk” 🙂

So no LBS!, just a few Halfords out there selling bikes. Bollocks!

In terms of numbers, the LBS is niche – most bikes are sold through big chains like Halfords, ToysRUs, Asda etc.

I’m far from the niche kind of person but I can honestly say I’ve never bought a bike from a chain. Always from a lbs. That goes for my raleigh bikes as I was growing up and my diamond back ht that I use for commuting and my current fs.

Hate to use the cliche but with the lbs it’s the service you want. You know any problems will get sorted and as we all know new bikes have teething problems to start with.
If you’re the kind of person to buy a bike from asda you’re *generally* the kind of person that will take it back and get a new one after the first 3 weeks when the gear cables stretch and they start slipping.

I was in loughborough yesterday, didn’t see any hills or mtbs, just lots of chinese lads on hybrids. Maybe that’s the trend to follow round there. 🙂

I think I should report this post to a mod for the physiological damages I have incurred from that picture. It’s like a car crash you know you shouldn’t but you have to look. Well thanks op I’ve gotta try and sleep tonight. I’m gonna have nightmares now. 👿 🙂 lol

    My fave so far!

Tried getting a tubeless Bonty tyre to fit and seal properly on a Crank Bros rim, inflated tyre to 80 PSI and left it in the sun whilst I started bleeding the brakes on the bike. Got to engrossed in the brakes and 30 minutes later the tyre detonated behind me causing the dog to nearly shit himself in the house and the shock caused the rear spindle and freehub in the wheel to pop out into the grass. It took me a while to calm down as well!

I presume the dog legs it when he sees the track pump? 🙂

I had probs getting a maxxis to mount on my bonty rim in my first attempts at tlr and took it to my local tyre fitters who let me blow it up on their air line. Obviously thinking about it now how stupid I was that the scrader adapter on the presta valve doesn’t relay the pressure back to his line so I told him to bang in 60 (stans fluid already in) and BANG! straight off the rim it went and stans fluid everywhere…… Oooops.

I looked at wiggle but they only had the 420×31.6 x 100. I put a mark on my normal post at it’s dropped height and raised it to climbing height and it was exactly 125. & measured existing post to see that I needed 380mm so the only remaining reverb in 31.6 was of no use. 🙁

I disagree with op as my mrs says I’m just “sad and obsessed” probably cus I spend most nights lurking on here it fettling with the bike and dropper shopping the last 2 nights. So if I’m not reading about them I’m on it. But in my defense she’s always on mumsnet….. I rest my case!

I ended up with a ks dropzone/i900 thingy from the germans off fleabay. Came in at just under £130. 31.6 x 380 x 125 so quite happy with last nights shopping. Should be here thursday (apparently) hopefully I can abuse it somewhere early saturday morning. Cannock perhaps. Will see. It’s just that there’s so little about them but yet it looks like a quality product. *looks forward to post*
