I did an outdoor first aid and incident management course a few years ago. I’ve had cause to use bits of the training on different occasions. I’m usually quite an emotional person but, when I’ve had to deal with an ‘incident’ I’ve gone into a different mode and just got on with it. I didn’t notice this but my wife did. I always tell whoever I’m riding with I have a first aid kit, where it is (in case it’s me that needs first aid!)and that I’m qualified to use it. The difficulty is when the person you’re trying to treat won’t listen to your advice.
    As a minimum I carry;
    triangular bandage
    gauze pads
    steristrips
    sterile wipes
    variety of plasters
    zinc oxide tape
    field dressing
    crepe bandage
    latex gloves
    mouth to mouth resuscitation shield

2 pieces marine ply with timber spacer sandwiched in the middle. Coach bolts through all 3 pieces with the nuts on the inside. I’d do this top middle and bottom.

I’d say just do it. It’s amazing what you can ride when you have to. Definitely an experience not to be missed.

    ETA still licensed too.

    Watch this

Bear in mind it’s a lot easier when everything is squeaky clean and the hub isn’t attached to a wheel!

The best I’ve seen lately was a bright pink t shirt with CAN YOU F***ING SEE ME NOW! written on the back being worn by a motorcyclist in Canada.

    What simons nicolai-uk said ^^^
There is something seriously out of kilter with these verdicts. People are getting away with manslaughter purely because the deceased was riding a bicycle.

Crane Sports clothing is manufactured by Polaris, at least that’s what a Greyville rep told me. I’ve never had a problem with their clothing. I’ve got two bamboo fibre T shirts which I’ve had for a few years now. They’re fantastic as base layers and have kept their shape and soft ‘handle’. Snowboarding/skiing socks are excellent too.
ETA their colour choices/combinations often leave a lot to be desired, IMHO.

I have a pair with velcro fly and draw string waist fastening. I’ve never worn them and they’re A1 condition. Size on label says Height 170 Waist 88. Actual waist measurement is 35 inches and inside leg is 27 inches. £15.00 posted if anyone wants them.
    ETA they’re DPM.

Excuse my ignorance but how on Earth do you get bail after being arrested for robbing someone at knifepoint!!??

It’s my little local gem. Bit of a surprise halfway down where the forestry workers had dug a nice drainage ditch where the trail meets the fire road.
I’ve since put some wider bars on which has transformed the handling.

“Be careful out there – our roads UK drivers kill and maim 1800% more cyclist than other road users.”
    FTFY.

    From the original BBC article;
“The cyclist suffered fractures to the spine, a broken pelvis, a broken breast bone, cuts to his legs, and a “detached” lung, which means only one of his lungs is functioning.”

People have to learn they cannot do what they like to the detriment of others. That’s why we have penal servitude. How will this be achieved by doing nothing and ‘moving on’? By not following up incidents like this it makes things worse.

Quite frankly I’m amazed at ‘I haven’t even put the handlebars on yet’. Having dealt with Giant in the past, I’d be interested if they know that Swinnertons are shipping bikes straight out unassembled. As above, distance selling regs FTW. Also, someone might have accidentally taken the RS pump out of the box and accidentally put it on the shelf in the shop and accidentally replaced it with a no name one.

If you look at any of the Shimano technical documents for front disc hubs and wheelsets, the orientation of the QR lever is always on the non disc side of the hub. That’s how I’ve always done mine and always will.

Not everyone who buys a bike is a competent mechanic. If you bought a new car would you check every nut and bolt before you drove it? The shop has a duty of care to provide the bike in safe and usable condition, that’s the purpose of a pre delivery check. If they’ve neglected to do this then they are at fault, but your mate will have a tough time proving it, as they would be admitting liability. If their workshop is run correctly they should be able to trace who did the PDC and see the checklist. If the QR was tightened by hand and not cammed over then I think it’s possible the wheel could have come out when cornering causing the damage to the dropout which, in turn, could’ve caused the QR to contact the disc.
ETA Can’t see the pics, so judgment reserved.

What tracknicko says ^^. It’s doable on an LTHT but it won’t be ‘comfortable’. The year I did it was the year Billy from Dirt magazine did it on a Dialled Alpine prototype. You do end up riding silly stuff just to pass people dawdling on their super bling Mega machines.

Beware if you’re doing W2 (or White’s Level)as there was a diversion in place last weekend due to logging which sends you way up and back over the top once you’ve done the Energy section. Goodwood was closed (the boardwalk bit) and I assume The Dark Side was closed too. We ended up going down the fire road to Abercregan then back to Glyncorrwg on the multi use track which follows the river. It might be worth giving the centre a ring on 01639 851900 to check before you go as it was a big disappointment.

Hi Andrew, it’s Simon M. Good to see you’re still at it too. :D

Here’s my ’94 Cinder Cone, which I’ve owned since it was new, in touring guise in Canada last year. Rode nicely apart from the speed wobbles over 40mph.

Did the Gorlech and Raven on Saturday. Came to 24 miles on Mytracks app. The Raven climb is definitely a tester if you start from Abergorlech.

Anyone else been to Amsterdam? I went a couple of weeks ago and was absolutely astounded as to the way bicycles rule the roost. In the main squares you have delivery vehicles, buses, trams, taxis, pedestrians, motorcycles, rickshaws and bicycles all sharing the same space. The difference? Everyone takes responsibility for their own actions and appear to respect each other’s right to be there.

Same as the one I bought from Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op for £60 (I think) when it was on special offer.
Pretty sturdy and easy to store out of the way.
    Marketed under several different names

I’d suggest a 15 minute drive to Dolgellau if you want a better choice of food.

I’ve stayed there a couple of times. The Rhiw Goch Inn is located at the rear of the park. Food is OK as long as you like chips. Closest village is Trawsfynydd which is about 3 miles away. There’s a pub there, The Cross Foxes. I don’t know what it’s like though.

I feel your pain. I put a load of fat on round my waist over Christmas but am stoically refusing to go up a waist size. I also suffer from an enhanced Gluteus Maximus. On the plus side, I can squat loads.
Tesco are generous in their sizing of jeans.
