Golspie – looks quite nice and can take the aged parents for a drive/day out while i have a ride ! Any pointers or is it get there, get bike out, ride up and down ?

Not an awful lot at Golspie for non riders but the beach is quite nice and there is every chance of seeing seals etc. The trails have their own car park now but no other facilities. I still like to park in the town car park as it’s next to the coffee bothy and chip shop. Last time I was there the toilets which used to double as a good changing room had been levelled but I suspect they were building more. Def worth the trip, the trail from the top has no peer IMNSHO 😀

I have put RF Evolve rings on FSA and Shimano cranksets so I supect they should fit fine. There is a issue with some Shimano rings not fitting other cranksets but this is easily sorted with a bastard file in 2 mins.

I would put some bits on a par with Laggan black. Swavis on here also compares it to the Fort Bill DH. I tried to keep up with faster downhillers on the narrow very rocky section and so ended up hitting and riding over some pretty huge (labrador sized) rocks on my Nomad. I survived most without a crash but I imagine if you took your time you could pick a way down around them. The trouble is it drops away on one side and so kind of forces you into the rocks. I wouldn’t like to do it on a tandem as i don’t think it would be manouverable enough and would probably ground out on some bits. The bits you _could_ do though would be well worth it. Just thought, there werea lot of pinch punctures the day we did it too. I don’t know if the extra weight of a tandem makes it more susceptible to these but the wheels will be taking constant big hits off all kinds of pointy edges.

Soz TJ, it’s quite obvious now that you pointed it out. Should be doing it again next sun and/or possibly the week after too.

carn mor ban but that is just a big climb and descent Might not be techy enough

Have you actually done it TJ? I found it plenty techy enough to have me over the bars twice.

Continental Vertical Pro UST. I think they have shares in the NHS.
Specialized Enduro 2.25. Even drift at low speed on dry tarmac. Sidewalls as thick as a Durex Gossamer and probably harder to fit on the rim.

Put a bit of soap on it and heat it up till the soap turns black. Straighten. Let cool and attach good as new hanger. Job’s a good un.

Simon that’s almost the same route I did last summer except we went a different way off Hollins and through Castleton. I think we picked the dry sunny day as it was ace.

It’s a very long walk from Hayfield up to Jacobs.

Are you serious? I’m not the most gifted or fit rider in the world and I rode 99pc of it on my Nomad. I’d clean it with a bit of training i reckon, there’s tougher stuff out there.

Well done 08 model but I doubt there’s much difference. Anyway, so? I’m sure if you anyone scours the web they’ll find it cheaper. However, I got to try it on and still get it cheaper than the majority of places online so I’m happy

That was exactly the reaction I was looking for. Thanks. Can’t beat a good gloat. 😉

There’s been a lot of talk. Has no one gone and done a group collect yet? I’m almost getting to the point where I feel like going down on your behalf. All the warriors on here who will kick dogs, their owners, people who kick their dogs, chavs, motorists, pedestrians, people on footpaths, people who get in the way, people who don’t stop, people who draft, people who do dibs on the classifieds but don’t proceed and yet nobody is brave enough to go and get hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of stolen money?????? It’s a real good job these monitors don’t bite back eh?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Mountain bikers are a funny lot that think they are social but aren’t really. “Chilling” and posing is their thing. It is what it is. I’m fairly new to mountain biking after a lifetime of football and mostly rugby and it was my first world cup event too. I loved it for what it was. It’s not any worse than any other kind of event, it’s just different in a chilled and posy kind of way.

Cycling or running to improve ski fitness ?

From personal experience cycling makes a massive difference. Running much less so.

Can’t see any 30.6 posts now. I’m going mad or I dreamt it or something. Beer required I think.

Blimey! I could have sworn my Nomad was 30.4. I was just looking at those on -one sale carbon seat posts and wondering if a 30.6 would fit. Al, the frame has been finished a long time but the post looks worn. I would replace it if I thought it was worth it but if I ain’t getting a bargain I ain’t getting it! 😀

Did anyone see the Finnish (I think) guy, can’t remember the name, who clearead the final steep drop bit from the bump before it? Bloody amazing!

Glad you have confirmed this as i thought I had imagined it or my eyes were deceiving me.

I can’t remember if it was meths or surgical spirits we used to put on our greyhounds’ feet to toughen them up for hours of road walking. It worked though. Worth a shot.

I got a subscription to MBR as a pressie. I don’t really read it but flick through on the crapper. I couldn’t help noticing though that Specialized win every review usually with a 10. Once you spot it it just spoils the rest of the mag.

I am binge drink Britain. I drink nothing all week and then at a weekend I’ll have loads. I’ll go out at 9pm and drink till 3am. I haven’t got a clue how many I have but it’s not a healthy amount. I usually only do it one night a weekend but occasionally 2. If I’m playing rugby then the 9pm is brought forward to whenever the final whistle goes. I get really annoyed at myself if I don’t get any riding in at a weekend because I was too hungover but by the same token if there is an organised ride on I’ll not be out the night before. My drinking habits are really bad for me I suspect but I don’t think I would ever be able to sit at home watching TV when I know my pals are out. I just beast myself mon to fri and eat as healthily as I can to try and make up for it.

Big up respeck for cycling in Muscat. Apart from the ridiculous heat the drivers are a complete mare. Not as bad as the Saudis and Kuwaitis though. I never cycled during my desert visits but the hottest I was in was a wee visit to the Basra road in the early 90s when it was 52 deg. Hottest I’ve cycled in was mid 30s in Belize where it wasn’t so much the heat but the 100pc humidity that knacked you.

Watched a good rider slip off the off camber ordinarily grippy rocks at Golspie on Crossmarks. It was here first ride on them and probably her last. Saw enough to convince me that I will never be using them.
