Have we got waterproof breathable membrane inspection specialists on this forum or label spotters? The military has bought kit off many major manufacturers and if the manufacturers want the very lucrative contracts then they have to make stuff to a spec. That spec does not include branding labels. I was wearing proper unbranded goretex before most of the world knew what it was. They were quite happy sweating the knackers off in their rustly jackets! The clothing would be a small part (financially) of what Gore supplies the forces with. Same technology but very different application.

The ones I have aren't "proper" goretex (no goretex branding anywhere)

    LOL! 🙄

It's sold now. Bummer. I'd liked to have tested that for them. 17st round Golspie/Laggan's trails for a few days would give it a decent work out I reckon.

Swayndo i'm all over that like a rash. I'll give you my moby no on Facebook. You're bound to need a fun to be with riding buddy for that one even if it just to make you look good. 🙂

They are big as the size takes into account that you wear them over stuff.
    Ebay to the second poster!!

Had a 9 speed go on me although it was not new. Cut my stomach on the stem I hit it that hard and then gashed my knee open on the chain ring when I couped. 🙁
    Still use them.

I just got 8 legs of venison for £20. Is that too dear? 😀

Lived on venison hotpot at T in the Park. It was magic.

RDP or WebRDP into your home PC or use free software like logmein. Job done.

Am I the only person that throws his weight over the back wheel when doing an emergency stop? You stop loads quicker. I have tried to make it instinctive after many OTBs but I suspect there will be more.

You boys need to get on the pies and Guinness. I was over the moon with 55-56 but then again I am a 16.5 stone geriatric. I have just ridden the course again to pick up any tape, signage litter left over with some other Moray MBC members. This time I did it on my summer season with pikes instead of the Rock Lobster. What a difference on the descents. I am still grinning from ear to ear 8)

Which is why I suggest a P7, which he'll never break

My pal works at an AT centre which bought at job lot of P7s. Every single one of them has cracked at the head tube seat tube weld.

+1 for Rock Lobster. My Team Tig 853 did me proud this weekend. It's an ex CTW bike.

Where you regularly ride will definitely have an effect on your skill levels.

Aye but you have not factored in that we are transferring chipbutty off here to your collective so that'll slow you all down. 🙂

Anyone know who the guy in the Scotland kit was who I cheered when he was having a pish at the top? I was just a lot confused when he called me by name as he caught and sailed past me.

next year we're splitting into pairs though.

Excellent! Although we finished second behind you, we were certainly handed our asses on a plate! It's cheating putting a youth team of skinny whippets into a senior event isn't it? 🙂
Mind you, I'm slowly climbing up the podium and I think our best three would ahve podiumed in the trios too which we might do next year. (especially if there are team of whippets entering again). Not bad for a fat knacker rugby player I reckon. 🙂

No didn't report it. Thought about it but what would you say? "There's a kid's policeman outfit complete with handcuffs hanging in a dry cleaning bag from a tree in the middle of the woods." Hardly one for crimewatch. It was gone the next day anyways.
Not far from that bit I once saw 2 women wearing crimson red capes walking along a path. Me being me I thought I would ask them where the big bad wolf was. I was greeted by the 2 darkest most expressionless stares I have ever seen. I didn't hang around for any more chitter chatter. There is lots of wierd stuff going on up there but it kind of adds to its appeal.

From dusty to crusty in one go! 😀 I do believe them trails may actually be slightly damp today but I don't have the slightest inclination to go find out.

I don't need more than 100mmm front and back for them either for my uk riding….but of course you would need more for Alps

I guess your uk riding is around flat English fields?

Don't you get a screw on "injector" with the bottle? I'm sure I did. Don't use it though, I use a 200ml Joes bottle to measure and squirt it in. Simple.

Nae luck trail_rat. Hope she's ok. Is she the one that jumped straight back on her bike and rode for a short while before realising she wasn't very well? Had some beers with the medics last night and heard them recalling some of the stories of the day.

We even arranged some dust for you! Nursing a hangover just now. It was the best one yet I think but I'm sick of that hill. It will be a while before I do the trails again!

I read the book as a kid when we had to stay "in" during rainy lunchtimes. The vivid pictures it conjured in my mind then remain with me today. I don't think any film could do it justice but I suppose if I read it again now I might agree with you. The double LP was good! 🙂

Good luck with this event. Hope it goes well for you, you certainly have done some leg work to get it off the ground.

It's a great story. Poorly told. My 12 yo is gonna get the book now because even he could see that the Cruise film was all special effect and little substance.

On Devs reccomendation I'm going to try Swampthings for when its wet and loose , don't know whether to go for a 2.3 or 2.5

2.3 single ply. You canny change the laws of physics and grip comes at a price. A 2.5 for non DH use would be like lugging round tractor tyres. Mind you, it's great for fitness. As you well know my regular routes are very rooty. After a solo night ride where I skipped and span so many times at speed at a place I would much rather have not I decided getting around alive was better than quickly. What a difference the swampies made. Come the snow they are without peer.

Tried Advantages on one ride – absolutely the worst tyre I have ever used for the slippery/rooty stuff in the forests

Go try a Conti Vert pro then. Have the ambulance on standby! 🙂

It's a jump bike innit. I wouldn't want to be on one for a 5 hour ride.

2.5 hours of dry trails having fun showing new geezer around. Needed lights for last descent. Was grand.

Larsen and Advantage until it gets too wet, then highrollers until it gets really slippy/snowy then Swampthings. All singleply ghetto on 321s. Fire XC pro on the other bike seem to do ok but do struggle on wet roots.

There's a couple of extra big jumps on the "downhill" this year to make it 99.5% uphill 🙂

Bargain that. On-one shop has the FSA V Drive at £65 which retails at £140. I've had one 2 years and rate it above the Race Face Evolve XC and Shimano LX I've used for performance (they either work or don't I can't notice flex and stuff) and ring wear.
