Love it. Not been able to get much done on the sheet ice and breakable crust that we've had but I've still given it a go for a few miles on the SS. Tonight we had new snow and the old stuff can just about take your weight without you going through. Had a blast on some untouched downhills. Will be out again tomorrow.

We've had snow on the ground for 2 weeks now. It has melted, refreezed, been freezing rained on and topped up with new snow a few times but it has been pretty hellish to ride on. This was at its slippiest

but there's fresh snow on top today so I was able to get out for a proper ride again

Just bought one myself. Cheers like. 90 sheets still is too much for a seatpost but what the hell it's crimble and all that and I've been a very good boy.

I am finding the Stan's sealant to be a bit pish. I'm ghetto on 2 bikes and proper UST on another. A pin prick in the tread area and Stan's works as advertised but I've had a couple of small sidewall holes and it hasn't done the business. Also, when removing the tyre from the 20" tube rim strip, with Stan's it just pops off, with Joe's which has sealed every hole thrown its way, it becomes quite a task to separate the two. Joe's for me from now on.

Well done Ticklinjock. Good dedication. That Swayndo is being gay and ,aking noises about it being too deep and having a sore knee. He's changed……….

Took the dog for a walk and realised that an ice rink covered in a film of water is not the place for pedestrians (2 or 4 legged), cars or cyclists. Just mental. It's gonna freeze again tonight so I'll give it a go then but today was never gonna happen.

Aye but it's gonna be under your jaekit, you're nae wearing it doon the boozer or that are you? It's long sleeve merino for 15 sheets. I'm loving my icebreaker in this weather but even it needs a wash occasionally. I'll let you know if it's no use as a bit of bike kit.

Freezing rain on top of the snow here. Walking, driving or cycling is a joke. Seen so many people nearly wipe themselves out and then get stuck outside my house it's just not funny. I would move my car if I thought I could! Going out on treader shortly though. Traditional innit!

Life is too short to be spent not living. Hooking up and nailing her senseless is living. Going round and feeling the real pain of rejection is also living. Sitting at home geeking on forums and wondering about what ifs is most definitely not living.

Only -4 here but I just got in from my bike after solo snowy night ride and pub stop. Nailed the snowy icy steps that stuck me on my backside the other night and trashed the side wall of my front Highroller. Don't know how that happened but anyways that particular demon has been exorcised. Cold innit?

Looks good fun for entry level winter riding but you lot ain't half a bunch of drama queens. We have heavier frosts than that 🙂

Sounds like a dead leg. I got hit in the thigh by a Vauxhall Viva and was initially in a wheel chair and then a day later on crutches for a week but that wasn't broken. Purple from front to back though. Ice and anti inflamatories and stretching if you can manage are your friends.

A P7 (e.g. DX or Airbike SL2) is effectively 4 of them. I would be regretting it if I were you!

I just wear Aldi tights with baggies on top. Sealskinz socks and 5:10 shoes. It does for me, I very rarely get cold BUT I'm bigger than your average cyclist. May I recommend pies and guinness. There are reasons why mammals fatten up for winter 😀

As long as they don't strike on 9 or 23 Jan I don't really care. Not getting to Austria skiing would really piss me off. Not getting back would cost me time and money.

I saw RATM last year at T in the Park. It was the most violent pit I have ever been in. Awesome! I too missed them 1st time round but have done the download and hope they do actually break Mr Cowell's monopoly. But wait, he's on the same record label so it's a win win for him. Apparently he earns 176k an hour 😯

There's a car park in my woods which is terrible for it. Short of doing something illegal i don't know how to get rid of them. I wouldn't mind so much if there was the odd glimpse of female flesh but it's just a sausage browning party. I generally just give them 1800 lumens between the eyes and ride away as quick as poss. People ask me why I still go there. It's the same reason I still go to Glasgow Airport or London, we shouldn't have to change our lives for them. I would love to hear of any clever methods of encouraging them to move elsewhere. The day my 5yo son asked me what that man was doing as we passed a quarry with the dog was the day I declared war. It was a 2pm on a sunday and 50yds from a family visitor attraction.

If you are travelling this weekend you may not make it. Keep an eye on the forecasts and trafficscotland.org for road conditions. A search here will provide heaps of routes but you may be better off with skis.

There is a dust cover shield on the 525 cone. It comes off and can be fitted to the 475/495 cone. Honest guv – I done it! If you don't buy the on one hub which is an absolute steal then honey, you are a fool! 🙂

DeVs – do you not think it might have been the drainage chute that helped you accelerate?

No. I was half way down doing a good impersonation of someone going arse over tit before I hit the channel. I wouldn't want to do it again thanks. Any one who skis or regularly accesses slopes that steep will tell you that your "scary roll" opinion is way off the mark. As the photo above shows, a 70 deg fall would be most undesirable, you'd still hit the floor at near terminal velocity but you'd also hae no skin from the friction burns acquired on the way down.

1st off, coffeeking you are talking absolute nonsense. I fell 136 meters down a 45 deg slope and accelerated at a ridiculous rate. If it hadn't been for a handy drainage chute which I got trapped in and slid down in a huge slide kind of way I wouldn't be here now. Still got 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my arms. I take it there are nothing worse than rolling meadows where you live? Many of the gulleys on the Ben which claim the lives of so many are less steep than the 15-20 deg off vertical scary roll that you describe.
Secondly, you are a very uncaring lot – nobody has asked if her bike is ok! 🙂

Cheers couldashouldawoulda, I reckon it would cost more than that to get the bits out of Maplin these days, they're rip off compared to what they used to be. Got one coming, can't complain even if it's crap at that price.

You could pick some daisies and make them into a few chains and then knit a cannister cover. Alternatively you could use a bit of common dog, finding something to go between your hand and the cannister isn't exactly the hardest thing to do is it? I've got a foam one and a plastic mesh thing that came with the inflators.

i just binned a pair of 5-10's, they looked fine, and there was loads of life left in the soles, but for some reason 5-10 impacts have a foot-bed made of cardboard, which falls apart within weeks.

Is this the older teddy boy shoes or the newer trendier ones? My old style ones are still refusing to die after 2.5 years of proper Scottish trails and weather, none of your mamby pamby Borders stuff (or even the gayness in spades further south), and I'm a big, strong, heavy bloke who is out nearly every day on them. I would have sent yours back personally or have I just been lucky?

On One had some deore hubs at 7.50 a pop. The cones etc are interchangeable with the 525 hub. I've done it twice now. You'll need to keep hold of the dust cover, rubber seal and spacer from the old hub though. Very cheap compared to buying a new freewheel and bearing kit.

Fruit and fibre and tea. If I'm doing a big ride will eat a tin of Ambrosia creamed rice too. It rocks.

BTW, let me know if you come across the view in the photograph from the book. I swore I got the route right the second time, but never came across that view!

That pic is of the trail which ends at Corarnstilmore. You have to travel further up GlenFeshie and then double back to do it. It's a belter.

We were at Inshriach yesterday, if you know the trails there are some absolute peaches even at this time of year. The Kenny Wilson route through there is not a good one though!

Flyingfox were you with us over the weekend in Aviemore? Sounds like the route we did. I didn't realise so many of the crowd I was with posted here. I was the bigger 118 twin!

    Are you 13?

A trifle unfair that Druidh I feel. I dunno who you have ridden with all your life but just about every club ride I go on there is an element of this. It's natural to be competitive. I'm guessing you've never been in the military where every activity becomes a point scoring exercise to the point where going skiing with your work and rugby mates becomes down right dangerous!

Dunno how you worked that one out Bregante seeing as the RL nancy boys switched to the summer because it was too wet, cold and muddy in the winter! And before you get on your flat capped high horse, save it, I'm Scottish, couldn't give a toss about what the RFU did way back when and I play(ed) both codes.
