I’ve tried VLC already and to be honest it’s slightly worse than Windows Media Player. The file is an MP4.

The laptop has an Nvidia Geforce GT525M graphics card. I think it’s an integrated rather than dedicated, but can’t remember if it’s 128 or 256mb.

Edit: In the VLC settings the ‘Accelerated video output (Overlay)’ box was already ticked. I’ve now also ticked the ‘Use hardware YUV-RGB conversions’ and I don’t know if it’s coincidence but the files now play! They freeze once or twice but otherwise mostly smooth, and CPU usage doesn’t go above 40%? Strange!

If this was a pair of aluminium forks I probably wouldn’t be thinking twice about it.

As carbon is obviously made using fibres, you get the impression that it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think the integrity might be compromised by a piece having already split.

Hopefully you’re right and it is just paranoia!

The dropouts don’t look like they’re alloy, how do you know out of interest?

Yep, just appears to be the safety tab on one side, which I superglued back in a moment of panic!

The forks can’t have fallen more than 3 feet, but the dropouts solidly took the brunt of the impact

Thank you all, there’s a lot to think about there! He prefers short but higher intensity rides due to time constraints, so whilst he hasn’t been riding quite so much with the recent icy weather, I think he will find it very difficult to ease off too much! His job involves him standing most of the day, something else which probably doesn’t help.

Like some of you say, it’s difficult to know exactly where to go for advice. We have a podiatrist in town but I think she’s newly qualified so may not have the experience to get it sorted but who knows

Interesting! I’ve spent so much time googling for info but waste of time really. I know an xray is the only way I’ll know for sure, but I’m worried they’ll increase the time the cast has to stay on because of it and I feel like a prisoner just counting down the days until I’m free! I’m thinking that surely just opening my hand to hold something after 4 weeks in a cast couldn’t cause the fracture to get displaced, fingers crossed! But I can quite believe you both experienced pain after the cast. The muscles and tendons on my arm are squeezed quite tight by the cast so I expect them to take a while to work again and that could be a factor in the pain too

This is my kind of thread! I know my habit is bad, I have to have something sugary every day. I may eat 1-2 easter eggs a day over easter, they’re always on offer and taste soooo good 🙂

What did you do about this in the end? The screen on mine cracked today, hours after I bought it (secondhand). I’m pretty distraught

I normally use Conti Supersonic tubes at around 50g each with no problems, so I’m probably looking at a heavier setup now. I think the concept is great with mountain bikes, hopefully for road too

The Exposure Strada has been designed for roadies. It’s ‘only’ 800 lumens, anyone know if the beam is more road friendly?

I had some Gore Windstopper gloves that were pretty thin but kept your hands snug in all but proper winter temperatures. Not waterproof but even when wet they were comfy. Mine wore out but will be buying another pair, better than my Sealskinz they get too clammy

I don’t drive and would prefer the package option, seen holidays advertised from £399

    Thanks for the link bland

I ordered a gear cable from CRC this week, don’t have a local bike shop.

Couple of days later had a card through my letterbox for a package that was too big! Picked it up and it was the gear cable from CRC, in a flipping box! They always used to use jiffy bags, even nice small ones. Not gonna do that again in a hurry

    Called tap revivers/tap restorers.

Like has been said above, you may find the splines of a new reviver are a different size or the stem is longer, so you’d be best of buying a reviver with a tap head included. Plumbase are the cheapest near me

Thanks for the input, might have to get one of those biteguards!

As for stress I don’t have any major reasons to be stressed but I do suffer from anxiety/depression so I am more sensitive to it. I don’t consume much caffiene.

I get this too as I’m outdoors a lot in the cold, usually starts off with my knuckles which go sore and bleed. Also get very sore skin under my finger nails.

That Norwegian stuff relieves problem very quickly

Is there a guide anywhere on how to service Fox 36 forks?

Thanks chaps. Would usually use a hammer but not on some very expensive white forks I now have!

Kind of split today with a girl I’ve been seeing who is going through a tough divorce, and has a kid. Every night this week she’s cancelled on me for one reason or another (child, emotions etc).

Dilemma is I’ve been asked on a date tonight by a girl whose life looks a lot more straight-forward and is into cycling which would be a first for me!

I feel like an utter basta*d if I go on the date, but will always wonder if I don’t. My head is mush

I plan to try and fit a couple of mounts to the bike at some point to make videos more varied

Yes stills is fun too. Here’s a few stills from some of my rides

You have to hang right off the bike to get yourself in the shot if mounted on the handlebars

View is fine using chest strap as standard but sat down

Works pretty well as a camera

Finally, just some fun. Tied the camera to some string and lowered it over bridge for a different perspective

I used the helmet mount on my road bike but it was slightly loose, you’re probably better off getting the proper bracket. You get a few adhesive mounts in the bike kit though so you can attach to a surf board, car bodywork etc

I have the GoPro HD Hero bike kit. I then bought the chest mount to increase activities I could use it for.

I’ve only tested the chest strap once and I was in 1080 mode so the affective field of vision is reduced from 170degrees to 120 or something. I found that because my riding position means my chest is pointing downwards, the camera physically didn’t have enough room to go as vertical as it needed to to get a decent view because my chest was in the way.

I use the helmet mount loads and it offers a decent view, but I also used the chest mount when I did Crib Goch and Snowdon

    Can’t see any Camelbak problems

After seeing this thread I thought I’d give it a try as would be great for presents…first order came today, 3 days in total as from Jersey. Very happy with it. Ignore the wallpaper just hung there to take a photo!

Thanks everyone for your input. I’m a bit overwhelmed at the moment. The care home job is fine but it’s only because I have no responsibilities that I can work there, they won’t give any more hours nor pay for any training. I’ve spent the last couple of hours looking at apprenticeships with Eon and BT in their engineering departments.

Was an unqualified bike mechanic for a couple of years and nearly took an offer to be Cyctech trained, but peanuts money

Captjon – I do love Geography and the environment but I feel I’ve missed my chance with going to uni…costs a fortune now!

Ideally I’d do something Geography related. But due to my health I don’t think I could handle university, so the Open Uni would be the more suitable option for me but their courses are so expensive/long and land management/conservation is quite a low paid industry. Wouldn’t mind being an electrician but don’t know the most economical way of doing it?

THANK GOD I’M NORMAL! I’ve also gone into hibernation lately, not exercised and eaten loads of crap. I’ve also been extra sensitive. I suffer from deperession and have a lightbox but can’t really tell if it’s helping yet
