What frame is it? I managed to get an adapter for my old Trek.

I’m getting one of these. Are they alloy or steel?

My other half is about to inherit my old Pro2s with Crests so need a disc at the back! It’s an old steel Marin but the geometry is spot on. We’re short of dosh and have to make do with an old hardtail instead of a lovely full suss. If the rear conversion exceeds £65 then we might as well get a cheap Handsome Dog from AllTerrain.
I’ll look into the adapters etc, thanks all.

Sorry to hear about the injury. A bit of a lesson there… I NEVER stop when dogs are around. I speed up! I have actually run into a dog on my bike. It was a German Shepherd so, now you know even a big dog will bounce off a fast moving mountain bike! I got chased by a yappy little beast the other day and started goading the little bleeder on as I sprinted off up a trail, just keeping him about a wheel-diameter behind me. My thoughts were: “thanks for letting your little bundle of teeth loose on a public bridleway, now let’s see how far into the woods I can get him to go!”

    I use these:
    maxxis 20″ tubes
and ‘ghetto’ them into rimstrips, even with notubes rims. Never had an initial inflation failure, never had a tyre roll off or lose air even at under 20psi. I have the presta bmx version currently with Crests but am fitting Flows this week and drilling out to schraeder (I hate presta). Rimstrip weighs about 25g inc valve once I’ve finished.

I’m gonna put 2.0 tyres and discs on my hybrid, does that make it a 29er?

Rather than ‘just’ Dalby, how about exploring the other forests on the NYM? Broxa, Langdale, Wykeham etc. Not organised trails but some great long-distance riding with some challenging and interesting sections and great scenery.
How about a 45 mile plus circuit of the Dark Peak with some terrifying descents and some of the longest sustained rocky trails in the country?

Thank you to all the kind folk in pointing out my bad grammer , it’s been a very good english lesson, and i have learnt a lot since posting on here

And the final lesson was: Stop posting on STW!
Anyone care to post the link to JC Cycles, I can’t be arsed to search for it. I have to buy something from them, this is the funniest thread I’ve seen for a while.

There is a good bridleway network from Bridlington and further inland. Flat and non-technical though. Best head to Dalby etc…

All the people who gave up after a few tries… quitters! I started using Look Delta cleats and pedals a couple of years before SPDs came out – had a few mud-jam lock-ins with the Looks but I reckon my ankle-flick action on SPDs could unclip me even if someone cheekily glued me in. I back off the spring tension all the way and 3 clicks back.
I actually don’t think I’ve ever fallen over clipped in with SPDs.

We’re trying to refute the headcam=crap accusation. Fun making does not necessarily mean fun watching! Remember the old 70s sit-com jokes about having to sit through someone’s holiday snaps projected in a darkened living room? Well, there is a new, modern way to potentially bore your friends!

that toolhaus thing is an eye-opener! LBS it is then!

The golden rules of a ‘headcam’:
    1. Make sure it’s mounted very securely, if it rattles you’ll get flickering and vibration which will make the video unwatchable. Chest mounted is best. Rattles will also ruin the audio.
    2. Mount it as near as possible to the centre of mass, this makes a more stable platform (the same reason the most comfy seat in a train is furthest from the wheels and why you should never sit on the top deck of a car ferry in rough seas!) Chestmount again!
    3. Use the highest resolution possible
    4. Get a camera with as wide angle a lens as possible/practical. A full frame fisheye lessens the appearance of shake and vibration (ever tried to film the moon on full zoom without a tripod? How shaky?!)
    5. Edit, edit, edit. No-one wants to see the inside of your pockets!
    6. Music. Don’t inflict your questionable tastes on everyone!

Think of the audience. Will they want to watch it? 99% of all the headcam footage out ‘there’ is unwatchable rubbish, let’s entertain each other with awesome movies of the sport we love!

Interesting replies, thanks. I’m in Sheffield and am travelling to Northampton this weekend, I can visit places along the M1 corridor. I need to see a GoPro in a shop that I can touch and test before purchase. It has to be a GoPro.
If anyone in the Sheffield area would let me have a look at theirs, I’ll buy em a drink!

Staff discount for all Nukeproof stuff is a whopping 40% if you work for CRC.

Maybe not the kind of mention you wanted though.

Are you ‘outing’ someone as a secret CRC employee? Who?

    They all wear neck braces?

Nope, I seem to see loads of neck braces in this month’s Dirt magazine.

Iam referring to the semi-naked women used as objects throughout the editorial and advertising in most MX mags. While this isn’t the cause, it’s certainly a signpost to something in MX that (to me) seems a bit ‘off’.
Mountain biking seems to me to be very equal.
A couple of months back I was sitting down on the bend of Jacob’s Ladder and was impressed to see an all-female party of 4 ripping down in great style. The next large group of riders was 50/50 balanced and the girls were riding with equal ability.

@steellam, I’ve got some 1.5 Lyriks and run a 50mm stem. It’s just a cheapy Kona one for 12 quid off ebay at the mo, I’ll get a nicer one eventually. I had a 65mm 1.5 Sunline DH stem but found it a bit long and heavy, flogged it on ebay cheap, you may have bought it off me!

    @matthias247, BB is around 13.5 I think.

On a typical ride through the Peaks, I reckon about 25-30% of the riders are female. Maybe some males are not riding in the right places or they seem to be scaring females off somehow!
Now motocross – there’s a sport that needs a **** makeover! Pick up a mountain bike mag and then pick up a MX mage, apart from the engines, what else do you notice as being different?

I think this thread is for owners and interested parties to discuss the spec etc. Every other reply seems to be **** trolls trying to get some knee-jerk response. If you don’t like the bike, don’t bother wasting finger ends typing.

Another big ride yesterday, another affirmation that I made the right choice. It just gets better every day.

I have some 160mm Lyriks 558mm A2C. External headset. I’m not sure exactly how the BB height is measured but mine’s about 13″ from floor to metal…

I was gonna use pound shop gaffer tape (bloody sticky!) and coat the box completely. Maybe do a ‘Eddie Van Halen guitar’ design over it in red gaffer tape – I’ll be able to see it loading from the departure lounge!

Sometimes I have a bad feeling about certain sellers, if you’ve been selling online for a while you sort of get a 6th sense.
If the 1st bloke is a pain, don’t sell to him. I sell on retrobike and if the first ‘dibber’ tries to knock my prices down I tell him to ‘jog on’ and take the first offer of full price… Treat em mean! I price to sell but sometimes a cheeky offer is too **** cheeky!
Like these people who make you an offer on ebay about 45% of asking price – no chance! I had something on for £200, got offered £120 – grrr!

My old Pro2s are gunsmoke and don’t go with the black!
Also, I need some wider, stronger rims and need a rebuild as a couple of spoke heads have come off recently and although I got them replaced and re-trued, it’s still worrying.
Although the rear of my bike is DT Swiss x12, it’s still a bit thin back there, I’d be happier with a thicker axle wall.
I fancy some all-yellow wheels anyway!

Dave Boxxer7, I have 160mm Lyriks. I managed to get some Uturns with a 1.5 steerer for £315 inc shipping and duty! I’m using that Brunox Deo fluid as recommended by Sram and it’s made them super-plush.
    slippy stuff
I have yet to bottom them out…

The Mega is starting to feel part of me now, had a really good ride last night and felt that the Lyriks were getting plusher. The shock and linkage is better than my 575 with RP23, isolates the pedalling forces really well even under hardpack sprinting. I’m amazed!

I’m trying to rival the number of daily posts entitled ‘show me your Orange 5s’. Someone’s got to balance stuff out.
In the same way, I’m stoked and positive, I balance out the miserable and negative. How’s life under the bridges then trolls? Bit damp? Fed up of hearing the endless trit-trot?

Interesting comments, thanks. I used a large packing case from some exhibition boards years ago. I wished I could have turned the box into a bike trailer at the airport though as I had a 20 mile trip at the other end. Cost me and the missus about £60 in taxi fees. I have an old, alu kiddy trailer with 20″ wheels I could use as the basis for a project… back to the man-cave!

Good luck! I built up a Bontrager Privateer and after about 3 rides I went back to my 575. Felt as if I’d been duffed up by some angry chavs. If YOU are retro, don’t ride a retro bike (on anything other than smooth trails!) oof, me poor back…
Stretched out riding position, ineffective suspension, skinny tyres, crummy gear shifting, cheesy brakes. No thanks!

I’ve gone from 44-32-22 and 11-34 to 36-22 and 11-32 now and find I stay in the bigger ring most of the time. I decided that if I ever used 44×12 off road I would risk death and on tarmac descents, just tuck and freewheel for the same speed.
My new bike climbs better than the old one so not missing the 34t low gear.
I use a Sram 1050 rear cassette and a 1070 chain with steel Deore (not 10s specific) 36t ring (decided on steel due to Peaks grinding paste and more expected use of main ring, plus SLX old 32t was steel toothed and lasted 18 months with no wear.
10s shifting seems much smoother, especially on Sram stuff, snick-snick-snick!

Anyone realise or care what this photo represents? Any idea who the riders are? I know who they are, just asking the masses… In an attempt at educating the youth of today about the past (passed) masters.

you can re-use your front mech and left shifter but as they’re so cheap, just get all new…
