Valve caps, on the other hand, do not. BURN THEM.

Mine have got little valve core-removing forks on top, very interesting.

I got myself a female mountain biker, been married to her for last 21 years. They are out there, sometimes you have to find a novice and train her up, buy her a bike etc.
Join the local chapter of the CTC, loads of single cycling ladies there last time I looked, if she’s ‘the one’, she’ll be riding a mountain bike soon enough…

I know JE James have had a dodgy and erratic reputation over the past 3 years but I thought they’d got better…?

Anybody had experiences good or bad since last June? (there is a point to this question so bear with me!) A bad shop will have loads of grumpy customers from long ago but what about recently?

If you can use Solidworks, look at jobs in Aberdeen.

I used them once about 6 years ago when they were still allowed on ebay. I sent an incorrect colour Hope hub back for exchange. They took so long I actually threatened to get in my car and come up and fetch the damned thing myself! In the end I opened a paypal dispute and the correct item arrived 3 days later…

Surely they can’t STILL be total sh1te?

Any actual real TV (Sky?) broadcast stations carrying it live or otherwise? I haven’t got fast broadband so unless a bike shop in Aberdeenshire is having a webcast party I’m out of luck!

Ready Brek is porridge oats that have been powdered. otherwise identical. Porridge makes me gag, Ready Brek is more palatable and is quicker to cook and eat. IMNSHO

Go for Hope with normal J-bend spokes. Easier to rebuild when needed. Don’t have to wait 2 weeks to get correct spokes (or even longer with Mavic spokes PLUS don’t have to buy half a wheel’s worth!)

I don’t fancy going by train now! Already had one altercation with a train manager this year…

and it you are putting that much air in a tyre why bother with a tubeless set up in the first place

I like to run harder tyres while riding to the trailhead. I havern’t got a car, you see.

The rotor has 2mm extra diameter but only 1mm extra radius – not worth bothering about! I use Hayes rotors with my Juicys and I never have any problem.

I had some wheels built up. Mavic A119 rims on Hopes – they’re rim brake wheels but the higher walls help stop the dreaded blow-off at higher than 50 psi (It happened twice on my Crests).

Thanks Namastebuzz. Unfortunately I am carless as well at the moment!

Trail Rat, I’m in a flat in George St area, once my car arrives I can get out on the trails. Eventually, I’ll get a house on the North side, once Mrs D moves up as well.

I’ve got the frame booked into Alpine bikes on Sat, just have to be patient I suppose. It’s just got the first two threads in the frame a bit chewed, they’ll chase, face and fit the cups for £20. I’ve got Race Face deep DH BB so probably safer to get it professionally done. Deep cups on old frame a bit ‘resistant’. Went in easily on my brand new Nukeproof even with my cheapo BB driver.

I’m keeping myself busy tho, took a bus to Balmedie today and walked all the way back to Donmouth – legs are knacked! Saw a half-eaten baby Orca washed up on the beach.

I used 264mm all round last time, you can use 262mm on the shorter dish side (drive and front disc). There are some calculators out there if you want to be sure.

Well, if I could find some way of getting my misbehaving BB in my new frame I could ride in this lovely autumn weather… Booked it in with Alpine Bikes next Sat, why did I cross thread the lh cup? Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Got enough lights to imitate a low flying chopper coming into Dyce, twin 1200lm on bars plus another 1200lm one on helmet and a 6w rear that will probably get me some ‘beeps’ from dazzled drivers! Plus a nifty Gerber headlamp for trailside repairs and stuff.

I’m an ex bike industry employee trying to get used to being a ‘normal’ punter. I need a full Park Tool set one day or I won’t be completely happy!

I’ve been considering something like this myself. Just pmed Junkyard for the lowdown.
I’m more interested in boats like this:
    Tim Spall

Much bigger than a narrowboat but can be sailed in coastal waters and will make it across to the continent so can access thousands of miles of navigable river, broad canal and lakes.

Another thing occurs to me. Apart from the ‘melody’ (not everything on here actually has a melody imo) there needs to be ‘depth’. A wall of sound with interconnecting levels, moving in harmony. ‘Cracks’ has it but I haven’t really heard this melodic depth in anything else yet. Perhaps Cracks is not really dubstep. Dunno. I like it though!

I think the ‘hardcore’ dubstep has spawned a newer, more commercial version. This happens in all musical genres. There was raw punk and there was commercial punk. There is extreme heavy metal and more commercial metal.

    Hi Jamz.
I put the Flux ‘Cracks’ on as I liked it but didn’t understand what the Dubstep genre was.
I must admit, I don’t really like most of the stuff posted on this thread! I think I’ve passed over the magical wall into ‘too old’ now…

    You need one of these:
    Nukeproof headset 44IISSDC
Keeps the front end low as you don’t want to slacken the head angle any more than standard. Very low stack height, should be fine with your steerer. Just checked, stack height is only 12mm. You’ll be fine!
PS: It’s the deep cup version, works great on the Mega.

    Deveron53

Depends on the steerer tube width (tapered, standard, 1.5?) as it will determine whether you will need an internal or external lower cup or even upper cup. What sort of steer tube on the forks (and what travel)? What’s your stem stack height?

    It’s not just bikes they try and get rid of;

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_American_streetcar_scandal

testimony was presented to a United States Senate inquiry into the causes of the decline of transit car systems in the US. This alleged that there was a wider conspiracy—by GM in particular—to destroy effective public transport systems in order to increase sales of automobiles and that this was implemented with great effect to the detriment of many cities.

They seem to have done the same in the UK over the same period. Not sure if there’s a conspiracy there but all of our cities had trams and then they didn’t and then a few recently have them again but on a much smaller scale. The deregulation of the buses in the 1980s coincided with the greedy years and car sales took off exponentially.

Thanks for the opinions, some useful stuff there.
Gotta stick with the Diesel and needs to be a good long distance hauler, I’ve driven Bongo/Kangoo variants and they seem ‘boomy’ and rattly on long journeys.
    Cruise control would be nice.
Bongo? Rather have a Delica LWB (huge! would get 8ft carpet rolls in!) but used to have one and 25mpg was all it would do, 2wd, 4wd, fully loaded, empty, tyres at 45psi, tyres at 30psi. Towing. No difference!
I had a Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 LPG but it had such a sloppy slush-box that it wasted a load of power and fuel. Was barely cheaper to run than the Delica and on LPG was gutless! But the space… like driving an aircraft hangar around! Hence my looking at a diesel manual version. And the interior is very tough. 2 people could sleep inside the Delica or Grand Voyager with 2 bikes, front wheels off, crossways across the back. I still have the home-made camper conversion in the cellar, need to find a new host.
I borrow a petrol VW Sharan and it’s big, not bad on fuel but the interior is totally battered and I feel that a diesel one could be worse. My Grand Voyager had an amazing sound system, everything worked and had ice-cold aircon and that was with 180k on the clock. The downside was rear drum brakes wouldn’t stop it and the spark plugs were on the back of the transverse engine and was an engine-out procedure!
Anybody know at what year the Grand Voyager changed to discs all round? I’m still considering it as number one choice so far. Dropping Disco and Merc from the list.
For the winter though, gotta stick with a 1.0 Polo!

She bats from the pavilion end though! And even Ultimate Farce went rapidly downhill after series one. Chris Ryan is cursed! I preferred his ‘Hunting Chris Ryan’ series, one of the best outdoor reality type shows ever.

Yep, much boobage and quite a bit of chuffage as well. But what about the story? I could pretty much predict who was gonna cop it about 10 minutes early. Ultimate force was better than this FFS!

My mate made one in the late 1980s. Put a tailgate gas strut down his seat tube and spaced it with some sockets. It had no ‘twist’ control but apart from that and the weight, worked as well as a Hite Rite!

I use Revision Bullet Ants, they fit close to the face and give superb peripheral vision.
