I’ve got a spare Suntour remote fork lockout lever about to go on Ebay. I was going to use it for a seatpost remote myself. It does have a click stop ‘lock’ on it though that I was trying to figure out how to remove.
    Pulls 10mm btw.

A life spent rock climbing? Handy for pulling off Hope hub-ends!

Go for J-bend every time. I’m 210lb and ride a rigid 29er. I ran a custom build Hope/Sapim/Mavic wheelset last year with no problems. The builder is the most important part of the wheelbuild.

1981miked, I didn’t know Rugby had a ‘services’ unless you mean the truckstop on the A5 just North of the Radio Station?

    M74 Northbound and Southbound.

Northbound is particularly horrible when the food bit is shut. The only available toilets are behind the filling station and I refuse to use them. Mrs Deveron was desparate once, I had to explain to her why there were 4″ holes drilled in the cubicle walls at about 3 ft from the floor! And why there were people hanging about at midnight.

My favourite is Stirling. Last stop before home and the mountains!

Get the Hope Hoops with j-bend spokes. A normal j-bend spoke can be replaced anywhere, any time. You try getting replacement spokes for straight pull or any of the fancy custom ones.

4.30pm, at home on the big screen. Hated rugby at school cos I was forced to play it but it seems to have seeped into my bones by osmosis.

There’s a dead one on my driveway. Antipollution fault, and that’s after I removed the DPF and flashed the ECU and did 20k in it. This is a DIFFERENT antipollution fault apparently. ABS sensor faulty so traction control also doesn’t work. Main indicator/headlight switchgear unit behind steering wheel is fried. Full beam/low beam/off seems to be totally random and sometimes triggered by indicators.
Buy a non-common rail Passat or something like that. 2.0 gets 55mpg, the 2.0 HDI 307 never got above 45mpg.

Mine are currently on their way from Germany via DPD from BikeSport (Konsums), I ordered 2 x Pacestar 29er as I used to use Syncros Point’n’Chute in my 26 days and the Hans Dampf seem to be the nearest to the tread design. Harder compound so I can run low pressure on offroad and pump them up for firmer flatter trails.

I use a Galaxy Note with the ‘unofficial’ memory maps app and have 3 double capacity batteries all stored in a small, clear Pelicase which I mount on some cut-down aero bars. Waterproof, shockproof, I can see it whilst riding, enough power for a whole weekends riding on continuous GPS and I can run Endomondo and Strava at the same time. Works great!

I think there may be a lull in the voucher codes. I’ve had 4 orders from them in the past 2 weeks with no CRC money in them…

I need a Tweeks voucher myself.

Anyone driven the back road from Blackburn to Dyce recently? Hilariously bad at the junction with the Hatton of Fintray road.

28 is what Conti called 29 before the yanks decided it should be 29 and the whole world followed. 26 tubes in a 29 means you need about 6 arms to get the second bead over the edge!

Aberdeen – the place to go for nearly new foul weather gear. There’s a K2/Burton Clicker snowboard outfit in Shelter for 20 quid, size 8 though.

There are some things that you just have to buy from one manufacturer. I buy all my cranks and SPD pedals from Shimano. I buy all my brakes from Avid. I’ve tried others, but always have to come back.

I rode 26 for many years. I switched to 29, liked it. I switched back to 26, didn’t like it. Now I’m sticking to 29. I’m tall, always felt that 26 was a bit small, then 29 came out…
I’m getting old, but bikes are getting lighter and stronger. 29 is almost as light as 26 was 15 years ago. 29 helps me to roll over square edged bumps a lot better. So although I’m getting older, I can ride the same trails with less effort. Offsets the age thing.
I used to ride a Yeti 575 with very wide tyres. I now ride a fully rigid 29er with very wide tyres. I can almost ride anything with the rig 29er that I used to with the 575. My next bike will be a SB95. 29er and FS? Awesome!

Hi, Alford/Dyce biker here. Me and other half also been a bit scared of joining the Neeps due to lack of fitness. Getting a small group of unfit but improving riders together. Mainly riding at Pitfichie but will be all over the area soon. Small minibus heading to Braemar/Tomintoul when weather gets better. Drop me a pm to discuss.

You need to get a train from the airport to the centre and change to a different train. Bikes should be ok, boxed or unboxed. Or you could ride. Remember, this is a European city. It has cycle friendly facilities and routes. The Swiss hate cars!
checkout the links on the airport homepage:

A mate of mine snapped his Sram chain in a crash during a 4x race. During my 2 years working in a big LBS, that was the only Sram failure. It didn’t snap at the magic link either, a twisting force was introduced by someone’s head, elbow or foot going into the rear wheel!
Shimano chains are poo. Snapped loads and they always wore out faster. Stupid hardened pin join was always a fail point…

What about Train? It’s about 50 quid return and takes 5 hours. You’ll have to ring Raileurope 0844 848 4078 to book bikes.

The wheels need to be ridden to get the sealant into all the nooks and crannies. Put more sealant in if it looses pressure too much. I just took a tubeless bike out of storage today. After 4 months of not riding, front tyre lost all pressure. Rear was still up at about 20psi.

I’ve spotted the One One price as well. My current frame won’t allow anything over 2.0 at the back though. Thinking of getting a frame from On One to fit the tyres…!

In the event that tyres will not seat try these methods in order:
    1. Put an extra layer of rimtape on.
    2. Buy a Schwalbe or Conti BMX tube and cut it into a rimstrip-valve combo.
    3. Go to poundstretchers and buy some foam adhesive tape and put a strip around the rim.
I like to get the tyre tight enough so that it requires a bit of effort with 2 tyre levers to get it on.

10 years tubeless, started with latex carpet adhesive, now use Stan’s milk.

Hi mesteph, what sort of trails are you after? I’m an Alford-Dyce commuter so I pass 2 ‘trail centres’ on my way to work and have loads of local forests to explore.
I use a Samsung Note and the Android unofficial Memory Map app all wrapped up in a large Pelicase that I strap to a sawn-off aero-bar. A gps is good for exploring the huge forests in Scotland so that you can reassemble the exploration route into a nice rideable one for future use. In Scotland you can ride almost anywhere and the forests are particularly free.
PM me and maybe we can meet up at Pitfichie or Kirkhill.
