Well, the same neighbours who put up the early Halloween shite are also extremely ignorant.

They’ve been renting the house for about 18 months and we’ve not had a single hello. When outside they completely avoid eye contact. The husband looks VERY MUCH like a young Rolf Harris which doesn’t help. Nor do his wife’s leapord print boots. I guess they are mid thirties but act like a couple of miserable pensioners. I believe they are from Cornwall. Is there a connection?

They had a van abandoned outside their house five months and did nothing about it. I phoned 101 five times and eventually persuaded the police to recover it. Not a word of thanks.

Anyway – they can just nob off.

Speaking from experience and a similar love of electronic music albeit an earlier vintage: Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk etc..

I would advise you to go for it trickydisco.

And as somebody said, buy used from eBay or similar and you will probably get your outlay back minus a bit for postage. You could even make a few quid if the audience is keen.

I would recommend the Volca Keys which I still have.

With the Keys you get all you need to learn how to synthesise sounds using analogue circuits. The device is self contained and has a tiny footprint so you can use it anywhere. It is also well supported by tutorials on YT so you can really benefit from other users’ experiences, advice and skills.

The Keys is the perfect device for learning the theory of subtractive synthesis. This is the basis for any future endeavours and acquisitions in this field. You need to understand the oscillator(s), lowpass filter and associated envelopes, ADSR for amplitude and filter intensity. The Keys also has a low frequency oscillator with three waveforms. The inaudible LFO has many interesting influences on sounds along with feedback and associated timers.

It is basic of course. The membrane keyboard isn’t great but for a learning tool it’s fine – you won’t go on stage with a Volca!. Once you understand how to create voices (or patches) you can upgrade to a synth that has a patch memory where you can store and recall your favourite voices and a weighted keyboard for more tactile playing experience.  There will also be more oscillators to use and blend but by this time, you will fully understand there function.

Go for it tricky – what better way to while away the imminent winter evenings?

I just took this slightly magnified detail of my Seiko. I have to say the quality of the sunburst is stunning. ANd everything else is pretty tidy.

    Not bad for £350!

There’s some lycanthrope-esque wrists on this thread!

‘scuse my ignorance but what is an SMP?

I’ve just sold my Timex Marlin sub-dial auto’ on eBollocks.

The acrylic “glass” and the pointless 24 hr sub-dial were getting right on my tits.

To be replaced by this new offering from Baltany Watches:

Top one. And I’d definitely get it on mesh for a veritable heritage look.

We tried this year. They look shit. Would rather have spent our annual £100 at the garden centre for a hanging basket and bedding plants.

I did it in 1987 for three weeks. It was absolutely ace and sometimes little daunting.

I was robbed while asleep on an overnight train from Nice to Venice which wasn’t very nice. They took my brand new Minolta AFZ 35 mm compact. Sometimes it was frustrating. Sitting on trains that didn’t move with no explanation. Running out of cash. Getting hounded by the purveyors of genuine gold rings and Rolex watches on the Promenade des Anglais!

One of the highlights for me was the Paris to Lyon leg of a TGV journey to Nice. Having a 33cl Kronenbourg at almost 200 mph was a awesome.

    Do it.

    We watched BULL last night.

A gangster film with one hell of a twist.

    Really enjoyed it.

@Kato – go on then, how much for an OEM strap like that?

    £500?

It is thoroughly gorgeous BTW and the watch deserves to be attached to it.

That Bell & Ross looks really uncomfortable on the wrist.

Unlike my Scurfa Diver One which I’ve just put on a Zuludiver HydraRib. It looks ace and is really comfy.

I think the colour is perfect for the watch face / bezel.

That Seiko is brilliant for the money. Sapphire, solar powered, day/date and 100 m water resist.

I’ve been following this thread since the start and haven’t seen a single mention
    of Raymond Weil watches.

Is there no love for a brand that offers such value as a quartz chronograph for £1300?

    Pah!

    Anyone else, or just me?

    I’d never do that.

Maybe your hosts considered it a crisp-based punch?

The last time I had McCoy’s S&V, my tongue was white for a couple of hours afterwards!
Like I’d doused it with 6% hydrogen peroxide.
It was a good pain though.

I think for calibrated consistency over the years, Scampi Fries FTW.

Who was the blonde presenter? Is she really tall or is GN really small?

Bit of both but Hannah Waddingham is 5′ 11″

UK vocal was weak on the night.

Best entries for me were Lithuania, Norway and Israel (phwoarrrr).

The mid fifties Croatians in their undercrackers was off the radar.

And I was convinced the German lead singer was going to eject one of the boys from the barracks.

    Stander here.

I’d have to dislocate my wrist to reach under and rummage.

Scruncher too. Folding just gives one flat face to go at it.

I’ve been WFH for three years now with just the odd visit to the office and I am out of practice with shitting in a work’s toilet. I went in on Tuesday and got the call to empty. The traps either side of me were deployed and I felt ever so conscious of my pre-stool overture. Almost trying to suppress the pops and squeaks as the 10:05 multiple unit from Colon approached the station. Hitherto, I’d been proud of my gas powered preamble and positively beaming with satisfaction and pride as I dropped my books in the pond for all to hear.

Perhaps I need a few sessions of CBT to get me back to my old ways. At 54 I shouldn’t be embarrassed about these things. Covid 19 has a lot to answer for.

For anybody looking for true VFM – the Baltany Discoverer 39mm. The spec / price ratio is outrageously in your favoour:

    Discoverer

    Stainless steel case and bracelet
    Super Luminova
    Sapphire with AR coating
    Seiko NH38 auto movement

    £210

I have a Baltany and can vouch for the build quality and excellent lume.

A real shock. I guess we all think that fatal crashes in WRC are consigned to the history of Group B.

Craig was such a passionate driver and would often be in tears of delight when interviewed after a good stage or event performance.

    So young.

    RIP fella.

Kryton – you cannot factor rationality into this discussion.

You can wax lyrical with all the grandiloquence in the world about the whats, whys and wherefores but the fact is: YOU want to own / wear / enjoy / stare at a Tudor wristwatch, BB, Pelagos whichever but you want it and your mind will not stop whirring until you leave that AD with a box and a smile.

    Have a nice day!

    I wasn’t expecting a smart / fitness watch IvanDobski.

But for the £675 I paid (dreamer see) I expected at least time and day / date. Cripes – even the Bionic LED watch I bought from Woolworths in 1978 offered that and for £13.99!

It’s a lovely looking watch, very well built (the red crystal setting is amazing) and water resistant.

I was just disappointed with the lack of day / date and the dim display when not actuated.

Sorry to piss on your ahem watch blazin but that Hamilton is not all that.
I bought one new from Sellors in 2021 and I was really disappointed.
I have to say, the build quality is superb but the functionality is not.

The so called hybrid display is great when illuminated but unless you’re in bright sunlight, it’s barely legible. In blazin’s photo, he’s hit the button to light it up.

Functions? Time oh and seconds that display for a woeful duration (10 s)such that it’s a gimmick at best. Date? No. Option of 24h? No.
I’m just glad I managed to sell mine to another dreamer!
