Acute pancreatitis induced as a side effect of a high dose of (60 mg daily) of Prednisolone to treat pulmonary vasculitis.
What started as a dull ache betwixt diaphragm and stomach around noon soon escalated.
By 19:00, I was in abject agony. It felt like hot drills were simultaneously boring into the original pain site and now my upper back.
I took myself upstairs and stood at the bedroom window gripping onto the window sill and groaning.
I went back downstairs and Mrs. S asked if I’d showered as my hair and face were drenched with sweat.
Soon after, I vomited. From the settee, I hit the living room wall 12 feet away. That’s projectile.
My temperature hit 40C but we resisted a trip to A&E as it was Saturday night and we feared the pissheads and associated aggro.
After being fingered up the ass by a doctor, they took bloods. Amylase was sky high so pancreatitis was diagnosed.
It took about 72 hours to resolve and during this time, no food or drink!
Awful experience.
