Probably is due an upgrade – I had two previous incarnations when I couldn't afford a more powerful machine.

Good for what it is, but like all Apple products – expensive for what you get.

No problem – couldn't face the prospect of buying another pc in the end.

Yep, I know its a controversial topic – but in the end the whole (more expensive option) made sense to me.

Just by way of an update – bought a 21 " iMac for the Apple refurb shop – does what I want it to do.

    Monitor quality is excellent.

Serviced a very new pair of Reba forks in my garage, and managed to scratch the stanchions when re assembling.

Fishers were very good about it , they replaced at cost – 'cos I'm a numpty.

Had a mac for perhaps the last 5 years, use a pc at work.

To be honest, I can't think of any good reason to go back to a pc.

I know that there are supporters for both systems, but I had endless issues with formatting hard drives and updates etc with a pc.

Mac is more expensive, but its always worked for me.

just googled capture one – been looking at the tutorials – looks good, might download trial version and see if there is a slight improvement (in speed / processing).

IMac looks to be more affordable , even if its not the perfect answer.

Just got back to sunny South Wales this morning.

I was stuck In Wroclaw (Poland) right at the beginning of this ash last Thursday.

Stayed in Wroclaw all weekend but decided to travel by train across Poland / Germany / France to Calais.

Bit od an epic journey, but could not get a ticket on the Eurostar though the Channel tunnel for love nor money. So my ticket only took me to Calais, where I would have had to get off the Eurostar.

I asked the staff if I could stay on the Eurostar and pay the extra, to my surprise they said yes, and wouldn't charge me anything either.

So I travelled into London late last night, got up early – Paddington to South Wales this morning.

I flew to Poland week last Monday for a 2 -3 day business trip……..

    Home now, exhausted.

I recently met my parents after an absence of sat 3 years, but has been over 35 years since I've had any meanifull contact.

So I think I understand the situation , but not the detail, as every relationship is different.

I suppose the key thing for me, is that how would I feel if the next time I see them is at their funeral?

So, I went to see them and was quite upset about it all. There weren't any arguments or anything, but a sad realisation of what had come to happen.

Regret is probably the wrong word, but it made me realise some of the waste and fret.

Can't offer any advice, than follow your heart.

Was looking for a cycling non-friction so looks like Mark Beaumont – The cyclist who rode round the world
Is that any good? I watched a bit of one of the TV programs and decided that, if those were anything to go by, the book most be very tedious.

I enjoy Josie Dew's books – she does set out to experience the areas she visits, not just get through them as quickly as possible.

    epicsteve
Yes, I liked it alot, and read the whole book in a week (which is unusual for me), more interesting than the tv series.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to buy a lighter pair of walking boots and start to walk to work once or twice a week to begin with.

Jogging is out at the moment.

Typically Monday and Wednesday , and build from that.

Looks like an alternative way to rebuild some fitness for me, until I can return to riding.

Sounds like I'm going to give this a go then.

More details on the injury then.

Its been a long niggling injury that has been with me for about three years, but stopped me in my tracks last August – riding the Gap Brecon Beacons way – I posted up about strained groin and adductor stopping me from cycling.

I had a bit of a scare after seeing the first physio who said that I had quite a bit of play in the left hand hip, and that cycling off road might be aggravating the wear . So I sold my bike and mostly everything and "gave up".

After a few months the pain didn't really go away, but wasn't as intense. Since seen another physio (and I've bought and built up another bike, because I simply miss riding too much).

He says the issue with the left leg groin / adductor/ hamstring is all due to trouble in my back. He says that he thinks that a return to cycling is possible, and I'm following his detailed advice.

Weight gain without cycling has been gradual , but something which is getting me down.

Fortunate really that a daily walk of say 7 miles looks like being a good alternative to regaining some fitness and weight loss.

Taken from mtb wales forum – rider was Matt Page – food for thought.

I don't know anyone who has broken this unofficial record – quite an achievement.

Just uploaded images to my pbase photo site, click the link to see quite a few images.

There is approx 1 to 2 mm clearance between the spider lockring and the right hand bb cup. So fitting a 115mm bb would be tight, but it could work (just).

    UN53 73mm x 118mm square taper bb om Middleburn RS7 cranks.

    Re measured chainline at 48mm.

Chainline photos taken with middle chain ring (32T) to middle of cassette.

Hope this helps, looks fine to me.

Unfortunately I can't ride any real distance on the bike at the moment due to a leg injury (that would have to be another post though…..)

As I said, I measured the chain line with my calibrated vernier gauge.

Centre of seat tube to middle ring 48mm,seems spot on to me.

Visually with the chain in the middle ring and positioned on the centre of the cassette, it looks very marginally out.
