yeah I think Stans do road/CX size rims for use with certain tyres and rim strip. Have a look on justridingalong.

RE- tubs, just concerned about the idea of sticking tyres on and all that…

If you go for the Mayhem try getting it from Merlin. I recently did as they have more stock availability than wiggle (discontinued? nope) and worked out cheaper as I got a nice extra discount, not sure why.
    spot on, arrived next day.

talking of other cyclists doing the shouting, if you have time, this thread from a while ago on on lfgss forum regarding the Screaming Banshee is a good read! 🙂

might be some bloke on here but recently when I was commuting on the mtb for more grip in the ice there’s a bloke passes me coming the opposite way on his bike shouts “COTIC” as he’s seen I’m on the soul.

I just nodded a few times, then one day shouted ‘SODA’ back, as this appeared to be his vehicle. not seen him since. shame as I want to bellow it again. 😀

also, when you get to the cleaning of rotors bit, this is apparently best done by going for a muddy ride.

    @IHN,
its probably a good idea from time to time, you know, if there’s any contamination, oil grease etc off roads and that, can perhaps reduce braking performance.

anyway, its not my idea, its advice direct from hope service dept.

back on topic, what about meths for chains- anyone? thanks 😛

    @graham,
dunno, not what hope advised me to use for rotors.

what about meths? would this work too?

only asking as I’m thinking of getting some to wipe brake rotors clean.

    straight from the cow?
Nah,too warm. Much better straight from the giant chilled vats in the parlour we dipped into at my uncle’s farm- had this a few times as a kid, Lovely!
I can smell the place now 🙂

@Den – Is that Joe Paparazzi’s you’re talking about? I had many nights in there, or the Choice, or Tin Pan.

aye that was it, nice one- I see it did become Velvet. I remember going in there a few years after Joe Paps shut and thinking ‘this layout seems vaguely familiar’…

more memories for the Glesga crew, from my student days

    Tin Pan Alley!
The Volcano (as featured in trainspotting)

and, anyone remember that one on sauchiehall st that I think is now the garage or was velvet rooms, had an amazing laser show, closed about 1992 though….

    London-
gotta be Chemical brothers at the heavenly social..
regarding turnmills, has anyone ever entered and left by the same exit on consecutive visits? they seemed to mix it up just to confuse the punters.

Just an interjection here to ask those who used the openstreetmap maps,

How do you deal with all the icons that come up in urban areas (eg. ped crossing triangles)? these seem to obliterate a lot of the map at the scale I use-
is this a problem for you or can you turn them off in the settings?

    Thanks

just out of interest, for those who have the coeliac, how bad were / are the symptoms and what is the worst thing?
could you have it without really noticing it or is the gut always obviously in turmoil??

    thanks

yes- don’t change ride position if you know you are at the right long-term setup.
I believe practice and engaging the correct part of core is the key.
It sounds counter-intuitive but if you actually push away on the brake hoods rather than pull, it can help to get it right- try it! 🙂

I’m always wondering whether this behaviour is deliberate to incite any would-be boy racers to have a go.
last week for example, possibly the same coppers on A1 tailgating about 2m behind someone in outside lane during those ‘keep apart 2 chevrons’ sections.

Mind you, is it worse that Po Po doing the ‘safety car’ thing, driving 69mph in middle lane so that people don’t dare speed up enough to get past…

    speaking from personal, real experience,
when I evacuated via the wing, you step out the side door into fresh air (birmingham airport I think in this case), to be greeted by fire crew on the ground shouting “GET DOWN! GET DOWN!”…
they had a kind of small crash mat thing to land on I seem to remember, though one member of our trip ended up with a broken ankle…
(reason for evacuation- leaking fuel after having taken off!) 😯

just a query on these, for those in the know- I find with regular SPD shoes the water often gets in through the bottom hole where the cleat fixing is.
I guess waterproof boots have a different detail there to avoid this?

    thanks

    I feel your pain bro.
the agony of thinking ‘do i drive home and back again… can’t face it…’

did a similar thing on a trip to wales recently, magura maxle that there was close to zero chance finding in any websites let alone shops…
luckily the misses was at home and could fedex the QR to arrive next day.
is there any way anyone could courier it? it cost about 20£ and arrived before 9am.
I hired a bike for the 1st day so got a ride in at least.

    Question.
IF you’ve had a blood transfusion recently , don’t you have noticeable marks on the arm/body where needles have entered?

check the profile for final climb on sunday’s stage.

Not one that Wiggo will favour, and Nibbo/Crazyfrog will likely drop him at the end, perhaps putting into doubt sky’s 1-2 or will froome-dog be unleashed ? interesting.

Just seen the profile of the final climb on Sunday’s stage- GULP.

Much steepness, something that Wiggo has struggled with in the past.

Nibbo and crazyFrog will no doubt look to attack on that one, and probably drop Bradley. Will Froome-dog go with them or pace his man up?
Not sure there’s much pacing advantage that can be gained at the riding speed on those gradients…..

you can set to ‘lock on road’ or not.
when offroad I dont think it does turns etc unless you manually put them in.
if you veer off the plotted route, it does a buzzing sound as ‘off-course warning’

a couple of pubs in centre do generic pub- food, though no proper ‘gastro’ offers I can think of in the town.

if you can be bothered to drive to stoke bruerne there’s a couple more options plus canal-side walks etc.

not sure of opening times etc….

I did it a few years ago and thought it was really good. 4hrs.

Like a sweet gorrick/swinley race course, nice flowing bits and nothing too tech, but stays interesting over the 4 hours.
very well organised and friendly- would deffo recommend.

because even though there was a lot of talk about Cut Gate, nobody ever mentioned walking any of it.

Thats what i thought yeah. Last couple of times I’ve been out i’ve definitely underestimated the severity of the peaks.
The entire cut-gate ride there and back is only 20-odd K but I was just thinking ‘wow no one said it would be this tough going’… 😐

yeah, it strikes me as one of those climbs that are as much about fitness as skill.
I guess you could muller up it out of the saddle if you had the endurance….

what about the climb back up from north america side? is this simpler?? i didnt get as far as that in the end.

Have fun- you should enjoy it! Bargain.
Route cards on ones I’ve done are not maps, but turn directions with incremental distance, so you’ll need a computer keeping running or intermediate total of distance travelled.
Either that or get in a group of people who have done it and know the route (often happens with local club guys).
Enjoy food and drink, the likes of rice pudding + sponge for 30p or orange squash + biscuits- hooray!
the information control bit is like a treasure hunt, kind of a way to prove you’ve been somewhere without having a chip or tag.

Best- probably Stone Roses at Northampton roadmenders, just after release of debut album,
or maybe Spacemen3 at the then Town and Country club…
also many great nights in King Tuts

worst? no one really stands out, possibly some fat boy slim free thing on brighton beach just cos it was a nightmare with mental overcrowding and sh1t sound

    thanks,
yeah i opened the old one as the pawls were covered in gunk and had stopped flipping up to engage.
yes, lots of the balls fell out. luckily onto the bench so i got them all back (i think)
I re-packed it all but its not great so getting the new one.
i’ll check those options ajantom, thanks.
