I’d reccommend a visit to check out Baines racing if its near- its a unit on silverstone race circuit grounds. decent, small shop but friendly local service

good blokes, known for racing superbikes so the workshop is high tech and bigger than the bike shop.

    have you ramped up training?
    more recovery required?

raised HR is classic sign of over-training too I’m told.

that vid suggests that these guys didnt have the full ‘raid’ kit, helmets and the like..
operation ‘big wing’ was 1600 raids over a couple of days (sounds like something out of the wire season1) , would that many teams simultaneously have enough kit?
shame on seniors to plan it if not available.

I have these (I think- certainly cheap grey ones).
used with Stans rims, rimstrips and wheel milk, hold air fine so far.
have you puts lots of sealant in?

Havent been down any rocky stuff yet which is where I’m worried the thin side walls may get shredded..

also used NNs, double defence for over a year on rocky and non-rocky, kept air fine.

coasting from level 5 to ground exit in my local multi-storey carpark is about a fun as it gets round here.
gotta keep the nerve to stay off the brakes at the tight turns into the ramps, avoiding swiping off the front wing of those badly parked 4x4s….. 😛

interesting look to the england team. just hoping for a less- turgid performance, building on our 100% record and trophy already in the bag 😛

will probably be the most england achieve this year, but write them off at your peril (much like germany in football tournaments).
to paraphrase Kevin Keegan, I WOULD LOVE IT, LOVE IT if we beat them. 😆

Another question on this topic, with the openstreetmap supp file installed via SD on the garmin, I get loads and loads of icons such as street crossings, (warning triangles) and other stuff clogging up the roads on the map.
Is there a way to turn these off, or a different streetmap file to download without these, that is still routeable?
    thanks 🙂

quick question for any garmin users with the openstreetmap map file linked above:

the map has loads of icons on, such as triangles for ped crossings, so many that the map becomes obliterated at certain zoom levels.

is there a way to turn the display of this stuff off, or does it require a different map file?

    thanks in advance 😀

somewhat turgid so far but england proving better in the scrum that some had predicted. Eng defence doing reasonably OK, good to hear the lads warning shout ‘drop goal’ and storm at Parks…
no decent runs from the backs as yet, england to improve. DO IT.

    3) copy the file GMAPSUPP.IMG to your GARMIN device (plug the Garmin in it should pop up as a disk drive) in the root directory

Thats a 485meg file there, am i doing something wrong, or is it too big to just copy direct to garmin 800? mines says 105meg max size…

    cheers

loving the create maps feature from the link above, I’ve been looking at 1:25k using the old multimap tab…
i guess most others may know but a cool thing I’ve been looking at is importing them into garmin basecamp to have a look rather than straight onto a microSD on the device.
you can then fine tune course points against the 1:25k rather than the 1:50k scale used for creating in say bikehike..
might be useful where all the wiggly bits arent quite shown on the 1:50k. the maps just drop right in very accurately. (also showing how inaccurate the base map is).
also good to look at a saved ride plotted onto the 1:25k for nerdy map interest! 😀

    depends on corner shurely?

I remember seeing the start of the Dalby XC world cup, a big flat grass wide radius corner. All the pros going round it sat down cornering like roadies do, leaning bike well over. Obviously weight shifted a bit on the saddle but deffo not properly stood up. 😕

OK cheers, clowner, thanks. I think i get it now.
Having not pressed reset every time is prob why its being showing a current activity over a long period of time….

Also I’m just copying the maps thing of the other thread for info here below now.

    Hi,

EDIT to post:- here is a page that explains all you need to know about what I wrote below specifically for the Garmin 800. Google is your friend etc…….

    http://www.justgoride.co.uk/Content/Articles/Item.aspx?id=119

What map formats does the Garmin 800 support?

I use my Motorola Defy (and previously a HTC Desire) as my bike computer. There is a program called Mobile Atlas Creator which allows you to grab open source maps from the Interweb and create maps for your device.

I use RunGPS and have created both OS maps which change scale as you zoom in from 1:50000 to 1:25000 etc. I have checked the program and it does allow to create them in the format Garmin Custom Map (KMZ).

If the 800 could use these maps it would save you buying the maps or having to faff about with scanning and calibrating the maps.

It does take a bit of time to create your maps and there is a bit of trial and error to get them to a usable size etc. But if you can waste time on STW forums you can equally waste it setting up your maps

An OS Map in 1:50, 1:25 and road atlas covering about a 30 miles from my house in all directions is about 230mb in size.

    Regards

Hello, just keeping this thread alive with another dumbass question, and adding info.

Question: I don’t quite get yet when to use the ‘Lap/Reset’ button and when to use ‘Start/Stop’ button….
Is start/stop more to put in say a pause at a cafe or whatever rather than for the beginning and end of tracking a ride?
Or do you press start at the beginning of all rides, then stop at the end and reset to confirm end of your activity??
sorry its not quite obvious to me yet….

    thanks 😀

I hope they go down for it, just remembering the attitude of the swaggering low-lifes coming out of court when they got off first time round.
I think the judge wants them down as well. he is allowing the jury to take on board videos of them talking about wanting to stab black peoples for a laugh.

by the way, just in case it wasnt obvious, when peoples are saying put a temporary tube in, this is to help set the rim tape down and also make the tyre bead form around the rim edge better.

and what stato says. when you are inflating with compressor or pump, grab hold of the tyre around the valve area and squash it a bit to try to manually spread the bead out at the same time as the initial burst of air, making sure that the beads straddle the valve hole fully and dont slightly overlap..

    DenDennis

if you’re using an air line then this should easily do the job that any co2 would.

i’ve had this issue in the past, with the conversion systems it can be a bit hit and miss, i eventually got it to inflate as said above by taking the valve core out, seating, put your finger on the valve stem whilst grabbing the core and quickly fitting it back in before all the air goes out.

sometimes some conversion combos just dont do it. or you make get it working only to have a catastrophic burp halfway round your ride.
other thing you could try is LESS rim tape, the strip needs to be set down under the rim hook.
    good luck! 🙂

lastly, bite the bullet and get UST rims or stams rims (ie not conversion)- expensive but reliable once done…..

Have you tried downloading the file as a ‘track’ rather than a ‘route’?

will try this- ‘gpx track’? any difference or reason to use tcx or other files?

do most people use basecamp or the other bikehike type sites for their route planning? cheers

yep, not that easy to get started it seems.

for peace of mind is it worth calling a private company out to just do it?
might not be as expensive as you think…. you could drive to their shop? dunno how much time you have??

I had my windscreen done privately very quickly and about the same or less as insurance excess.

Another question for those who have the edge 800,
those openstreetmap links posted by cp above have downloads of jpg map files of all sorts of countries.

If I download a jpg and bung it onto my miniSD card, can i put this into the edge800 and will it read it? does it know how to locate the all the jpg maps relative to GPS?
i guess it wouldn’t do satnav type routes, just show you where you are right?
so does that mean that the 1:50bundle OS has more map data in?

    thanks! 😛

this is an interesting question and I’m always for asking the obvious that never seems to get asked…
I’d imagine property developers wouldnt be too happy with the one-off cut in house prices.

anyway, when people do the banker bashing, they must remember that these guys were just taking what they could get away with. why would banks have morals?
people were doing it in their own small fashion right down to individuals, in my view- buying a new sofa and tv on credit that you couldn’t really afford- isn’t that all linked into it?

when we moan about cuts etc etc, we should really be moaning that we have allowed ourselves to get into a situation (exacerbated by Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Mandy after Tories before them) where we’re at ransom to the banks and they know it.
I couldnt give a toss if some private investment fund manager gets a million bonus so long as when he fails we dont have to bail him out.

perhaps we should go back to smaller scale, slower or limited growth…
    😐

ah, must be just my area, with the old NTL boxes that dont do fibre optic in direct… thats what the chat bot told me

    DenDennis
    Free Member

indeed. I’ve just gone through this after moving house recently.

I think if you went for BB only you’d still need a landline from another supplier. The fibre optic only goes down the street -its not what gets piped into the house (i think).
whatever you do, dont go back to BT is my advice. terrible service.

If you do decide to go landline only, bethere do cheaper than BT.

    thanks for the info, guys!

I wonder why it doesnt do turn by turn off road? is it something to do with how it reads roads as data rather than off road maps as just an image?

another Q, when you are plotting out an off road route, say on your PC, does is allow you tend to do this with the garmin software and OS maps? otherwise how do you know where bridleways are etc to draw the route other than guessing from google maps satellite?

    cheers

I’ve had similar quite a few times (more often if napping on sofa during the day curiously).
My take on it is that I never actually woke up, it was just a very detailed dream that felt like I had woken up. If you go back and think, was your bedroom exactly how it really is??? when I looked at it more, I realised I must have been still asleep.

Mind you, I’ve heard some people with really bad cases think they are awake and go about a whole day’s business in ‘real time’ or longer before waking up 😯

just a thought OP, given the above, do you think that airing drawn work on a public forum that you don’t have copyright for is very clever??

(not that you’d want the copyright)
