I’m guessing you don’t live in London otherwise you might already have heard of LTNs.

Have a look up of low traffic neighbourhood measures, LTNs. What you describe sounds exactly like one of those.
Much frothing of mouth and vein bulging rage on twitter about them but I voice my support to local councillor.

Not sure of the formal process but I get getting contact with councillor and proposing it collectively

just going back to whether there’s actual legislation on the fuel or labelling or whatever, apologies if this has been stated above, but what legislation / guidance is actually in place forcing any changeover?
is the only forced change that petrol stations now cannot supply old style ‘E5’ cooking petrol, it has to be super/premium grade E5?
in which case, given the E5 and E10 are both maximum standards, wouldn’t whatever be supplied in E10 now just be whatever is cheapest, regardless of how much ethanol is present.
where is the economic encouragement to use more ethanol being driven from?
    producers? other governments?
Say I believed that for environmental reasons I should be using fuel with more like 10% ethanol in, where would I be able to know I am buying this from at the pump? it could just be like the old E5 regular no?
I guess electric cars aren’t mandatory but provision is being made and choice is there. at least you know its running on electricity and not “up to 10% electricity”
am I being a bit thick here?

    Got it.
So presumably E5 might be anything from zero to 5%?

    DenDennis

Sorry I don’t understand the max allowable point for labelled E10…

If more %ethanol is ‘better’ so it is being phased in, what is the need for a maximum.?

Great GB results! Loved how Beth threw her bike down after winning.
It’s worth seeking out the unedited full show from iplayer to see how draining a schedule it is and how well they did to avoid what were some horrific looking crashes along the way.
Beth’s full unedited interview is pretty funny as well

MVP is one of the most skillfull bike riders in the world . Why would he choose to slow down and roll that rock jump even if the ramp had been there ? That would cause him to lose momentum and time when he is quite capable of jumping it like all the rest of the fiel

Looked like he was going to pump down the ramp to me (hence nosediving so hard), which might not have been all that much slower maybe…?

    Interesting points.
to add, if he had meant to pump, why would he end up sort of half-jumping it?

Also consider that the women knew it would be in place and many of them effectively did the jump direct to the rocks on landing missing out the ramp anyway.
So rather than anything shady, did VdP just get caught between pumping and jumping and just mess it up? or does it look like he was trying to pump it and ended up pumping thin air?

Cheers chaka, so if it came to it I could use old BB cups and fit new full 1×11 chainset or at least just the left arm?

Cheers all for recommendations and advice.
Just to show the bit I’m after, it’s this version of hollow tech BB crank.

    slx crank arm

Out of interest, do the newer 1×12 Shimano direct mount cranks fit onto the same screw in BB cups?

Ah yeah good points. So official dealer whilst under warranty and then take a view as to local independent specialist thereafter may be best way to go.
    Thanks

Not in any way as serious as some that have been mentioned on here but first few years working in London I got called over by some blokes in a big transit van on at least 3 separate locations and perpetrators asking if I wanted some big stereo speakers for my house…
Just wondering if that used to happen in other cities in the late 90s.

Also (not sure who you’d say criminals in this case are) but I did have a bit of a ‘what are you on about’ type conversation one late evening with an indignant chap in a Fulham street who later I knew to be Barry Bulsara/George of the Jill Dando stitchup/cockup murder case…

As Sirs Clive and Jonny said, England need a refresh.
Totally new playmaker at 10 in my view. Not sure who that is, and a world class 9 would help. Other 6n teams have world class in those positions, England not.

Hoping for a great decider match, wouldn’t mind either winning

A former boss had a very odd method often when drinking a hot beverage- a very much two-stage process of sticking the tongue out and placing brim of mug onto tongue, then raising the whole assembly extravagantly.
I often mimic this for a laugh at home or in the pub with a pint.
He had loads of mileage in him.
He enforced a particularly quiet ‘no chit-chat’ working environment in the open-plan office but would regularly have personal related calls with his girlfriend about their failing relationship more than loud enough for everyone to hear…

    @ p7eaven
Jalapeños nice too, I almost put that myself also!

For a veggie option possibly get some bahjis or spicy falafel and mix with maybe mayo or chilli sauce (for lubrication)

Lately I’m thinking a bit of finely sliced cheapo iceberg lettuce adds surprisingly well too (not too much and never a whole soggy leaf just lobbed in)

What p7eaven said, without the cucumber.

Possibly substitute for slices of cheese and within a couple of hours you could almost have a self cooked tuna melt mmmmmmm

I always thought this article by Giles coren has it spot on.
    Times

Apologies if it’s behind a paywall but an extract here :

There is just no excuse for driving a farm vehicle in London. You do it purely because your rich friends do it and you are scared that if you don’t drive one they will think you are not rich. Not one of them. Better to collaborate with the fascist occupiers than risk speaking out. I sympathise. It must be lovely to be raised up above all the other traffic with a view over their heads so you don’t feel claustrophobic and threatened. Nothing wrong with a bit of Lebensraum, after all. Sod the smaller cars, you need room to spread out. Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Range Rover!

You don’t want to be eye level with urban traffic, do you? You don’t want to take part. You want your own island to sit on, detached and with your own rules, doing paperwork quietly in the back on the plush leather seats behind tinted windows (4x4s are now the chauffeured car of choice for most high-rollers, I’ve noticed). It is your own little Brexit from the rest of us.

Both agreed on the casino points and both MORALLY unfair and against the casino Ts and Cs no doubt, but is it against the LEGAL agreement between user and stock market intermediary?

    DenDennis
    Free Member

“despite being able to take thousands out if they wanted”

But what if the trading platform they used decided to suspend selling of the stock /options?

I think if I am interpreting what footflaps has been saying above is, although MORALLY not necessarily fair, all of the trading platforms /intermediaries have their own Ts and Cs that allow them to change all sorts of things that the small punter can or can’t do.

    Not the same situation but,
Say you found a way of winning black jack at a casino. Very quickly after a few grand of wins you can be sure some guy in a dinner jacket would politely ask you to leave the premises..

Depending on tax to pay also possibly consider putting into you pension just before end of tax year.
Unless you already put in the full amount possible. Assuming that you are a higher rate payer then you can save 20pc of the gross amount put in or even eliminate the tax due, obviously would need a sizeable float fund if tax due is more than a few k.
As others have said, no point in artificially having a higher rate on offset than you would save in easy access other savings and lower normal loan rate….

@TomB yes, I’m pretty sure the set for life 10k/month for 30 years is always never split, i.e. multiple people could win it.
and yes, I hadn’t even factored in the point that jackpot might be shared.

and going back to Greybeard’s original point, (and still ignoring the other sub-prizes because these can vary considerably, particularly if multiple winners),
I think I’m wrong to be reducing the ‘effective’ odds for winning say a target of £2m because the jackpot is say £100m in a particular week.
There would still only be one way of winning that jackpot even though it looks like 50x more ‘chance’ of getting £2m. you’d just be 50x more chuffed I guess.

    @woody are you sure?
1 in 140,000,000 for one ticket.
12 in 140,000,000 for 12 tickets in same draw?

    DenDennis
    Free Member

Having taken greybeard’s point on board, with the ‘target’ win £2M, another way I’ve been thinking about it is if one game has odds 4x ‘worse’ than another game then the prize needs to be 4x bigger.

so if game A has odds of 1/X to win £2m

and game B has odds of 1/4X to win, jackpot of game B needs to be 4 times bigger, i.e. £8M to be equivalent?

    DenDennis

OK good point. I forgot to mention that. I was kind of thinking compare to the max set for life win, so for the purposes of this exercise, lets say the win needs to be £2M lump sum, which I would lock away and pay myself 10K per month and invest the rest

I was thinking of something that’s just appeared on a pic up there :
    Belfast sinks.
Looked novel at the time but really not that practical in my view, particularly for bathrooms.
Other one is those massive island units in kitchens, people put them in cos it’s the done thing rather than whether it actually works in the space…

I’m (hopefully) getting some reasonable new headphones at Christmas so will look forward to setting up a few trials via the Tidal.
What I love to hear on good equipment is the extra level of bass that every now and then seems to slide in from somewhere different to the what you think at the time is the deepest bass..

I cant see that from following the steps you have given? it just says wait or talk to the dispatch company….

Thanks for the info. Interested in shimano ones I’ve seen. Does anyone know how easy these are to remove and replace pads? The current ones I have (not sure what brand but not a main one) are a nightmare to fit new pads in, literally had to use a hammer to smash them in!
I’ve never really had much trouble with hope or avid juicy I’ve had before on other bikes….
    Cheers

I recently upgraded my old diesel passat with 170k miles to a skoda superb. Estates.
I too was worried about the motorway grunt at 60mph plus. The passat was a 1.9 and always felt surprisingly nippy when putting foot down to overtake at top motorway speeds.

My advice is do a test drive of one with same engine and make sure you can get out on dual carriage way or motorway to see whether it has the pep you desire.
My Superb is petrol 1.4/1.5 and I can’t tell whether its just more comfortable but doesn’t quite have the acceleration, might just be that it’s bigger and so a bit heavier.
In terms of low speed urban acceleration no issues.

That said I love it. Brilliant cars. Was thinking about octavia too but couldn’t afford to get the latest version so I opted for superb

I think good move by Ineos to drop the two previous winners as they’re not quite on form and to load up with a couple of more pure climbers.
This year’s route has loads of early mountains so I wouldn’t be surprised to see carapaz or simakov sent off early to force others to chase..
That said I don’t think either Bernal or Roglic will win

also to add when the tree was gone I was suprised at how much daylight it had been blocking from the garden- it didnt feel like it was much!

    DenDennis
    Free Member

IF your house/garden is in a conservation area then normally the tree would be protected by default, similar to a TPO, which is then a lot more involved in terms of permissions.

For what its worth I had a self seeded ash felled from my back garden about 4 year back, it was about 6m tall and it cost me about 350£ including chipping and taking away and grinding stump down.

If you’re ever going to talk to council about an extension or similar and you don’t particularly want the tree better to take it down before they come and look at your land. You can always then plant new landscaping after.

    DenDennis

    cheers all. good points there.
For further info, there would be an agreed valuation as current prior to the % of equity being worked out.
The house has been done up a fair bit in the last 2 years so the uplift of that would be factored into the current value PRIOR to the cash investment being calculated.
I think the real reason they dont want to get mortgage co. involved is due to a few grand of early repayment charges but maybe they should swallow this between them and formalise it.

Either way, a deed of trust drawn up by a real solicitor would be signed (though I imagine the solicitor would have something to say about the mortgage too)…
