Hadge, that’s ace mate – good work.

Cougar – you misunderstand me – I’m saying that unrelated jokey threads are good and all that but the forum can also pull together and offer good constructive personal help when it’s required.

Perhaps from ‘apart’ I should have said ‘in addition to’!

It’s threads like this that are immeasurably positive and helpful – apart from the obvious jokey/banter threads this is when the forums is at its best.

Some really good advice, particularly from julianwilson, CHB and Midnighthour.

    All the best anxious11.

    Hadge,

I’ve bought a Thomson 34.9 clamp for my new Cove Hustler build that uses a 30.0mm seat post and it fits well – nicely machined piece of kit, as you’d expect.

Rob ‘Box’ Cooksley down at Bad Ass Bikes is good

+1 – and so are his mechanics Nathan and Dan. Best workshop in Bristol and North Somerset IMHO.

Cheers nigew, Kit, rumbledethumps and Pimpmaster Jazz – That’s got the taste buds going, can’t wait to get mine sorted out.

Pimpmaster Jazz – I find that reassuring. My Handjob comes up short in the top tube, which is perfect for me. I don’t like it too rangy.

Not ridden one myself but they seem to achieve fairly decent reviews and you get a reasonable set up for your money.

Funny enough I was listening to The Fat of the Land earlier today – what an album, IMMENSE.

    What about some Progressive/Vocal Trance.

Solarstone & Claire Stagg – The Spell

    Blank & Jones – Catch

No – I’ve bought a new frame (Cove Hustler) and will be swapping the bits across and purchasing some new forks when funds allow. I’ll need the help of my LBS to sort all that though.

ATB have confirmed that it’s still in warranty over the phone. I’ll be sending it off in the next few weeks – I’ll post up the verdict!

I’m an Acting Detective Sergeant with 16 years service.

Winsor and the Coalition Government are set on destroying the finest police service in the world. I’ve acknowledged on a previous thread that UK Police Forces should not be immune to change in line with other cuts across the public sector, but the reforms are becoming a terrifying inversion of priorities where cost cutting measures being implemented and proposed (by functionaries with a dubious appreciation and understanding of how the job works) put profit over people and consequently accountability and expertise are being eroded.

Personally speaking, and setting aside moral responsibilities, striking is not an option as it will serve only to weaken our conditions of service even further.

Occasionally I get the positive feelings that Bregante has detailed but they are on the wane – I’m monumentally hacked off with it all at the moment.

All the best to the other officers on the forum – there’s a long and rocky road ahead. I’ll be amongst the crowd on the 10th May.

It’s an interesting debate – but I firmly share Northwinds’ view on the matter.

My wife has a friend in Petersfield that does hog roasts. He roasts it over charcoal in a contraption that he’s made, which he tows to the venue – a big enclosed metal trailer essentially.

Lovely in a bap with mustard sauce and a pint of cider nomnomnom.

Cheers Nick :D – I’ve got most of the parts. I’ve had to buy a new seat post and front mech and I’ll have to convert the front Hope hub. My biggest conundrum is what fork – I need 140 (15qr/Maxle-lite), 1-1/8″ steerer with black lowers – I’m swaying towards a RS Rev or Fox Talas.

Cheers Guys – I like the green and orange Hustlers. I’ve bought a new black 17.5 frame and am looking forward to building it up. Trying to achieve a reasonably lightish overall weight.

I assume you are talking about St Anne’s up by the board mills – one of the closes off of Robertson Drive? I would go south of the Feeder in preference to Redfield, St Anne’s is generally a more pleasant setting IMO. Personally, I’ve never been that enamored with Lawrence Hill, Barton Hill, Whitehall – which Victoria Avenue is fairly near to and the main drag, Church Road, is a little tatty.

The indictment wasn’t a straight Arson – it was Arson recklessly endangering life, which carries a sentence of Life imprisonment on conviction, so he was very fortunate not to get a longer term.

Good, I’m glad he’s been locked up – the horrendous ****. It was luck that nobody was killed.

    Hopefully his cell is unfurnished.

I like things neat and in proper arrangement. I will have to square things up so they are parallel with edges and stuff like that. My mother is fastidiously tidy. You only have to look at your parents to know where your ******-up behaviour comes from! Philip Larkin wrote a good poem about it.

The books really are worth reading and whilst the HBO series is faithful to them so far, there are differences (scenes missed out).

Why don’t you watch a ‘Game of Thrones’ but then read ‘A Clash of Kings’ before the 2nd season is released?

I went to a talk by GRRM in Bath on Wednesday night – fascinating man and he signed my book, which was good!

The crucial thing is how it rides, but having said that the aesthetics are obviously an important feature in a bikes design – in the eye of the beholder and all that. Personally there are aspects I like about it and others I’m less keen on.

It can be no surprise that a picture of a new MTB frame on a MTB forum will rightly solicit a wide range of opinions – it’s just that some of those views are not particularly well nuanced and lack finesse – in keeping with the forum then!

I admire Cy for his innovativeness & coming on here to explain things. He clearly produces great UK designed bikes – good on him is what I say.

I suppose it varies from place to place. When I worked in Nottingham we had to i/v suspects even if the complainer refused to give a statement, just in case they admitted it. Complete waste of time.

Really? I can understand Domestic Violence cases where there’s a positive arrest policy etc but for the above? I guess you’re glad you’ve transferred?

Sometimes leaving matters alone are best for the greater good – it’s difficult to judge. You have to balance that with the risk of living in a society where indecorous behaviour of the nature the OP describes increases because it’s tolerated and goes unaddressed. Perhaps the cops firing a warning shot over his bows at least is a proportionate response? I don’t mean niking him and referring it to the CPS – just check him out on his doorstep and for a few words of advice to be dispensed. If he is a reasonable man as his early apology is suggestive of, this could have the desired effect.

thegreatape – I don’t think it’s got that ridiculous yet. Not for allegations like this.

Level 42 here as well and still loving it.

Who did you side with though – Stormcloaks or Empire?

Empire for me – Stormcloaks struck me as a little racist and backward :D

Of course you could listen to the internet hard-men and risk losing your life or liberty for 15 years … and believe me I’ve seen retaliatory attacks end in tragedy for the participants, not least their families.

During his apology to your friend he most likely made admissions and therefore the police will want to take a statement from him. Should it proceed to court your mate could well be summonsed to attend and provide testimony.

There’s no time limit as such – but with the passing of time evidence diminishes and memories fade. For example the injuries you have will heal and be less visible/impactive as the cops will want them photographed.

I’d be inclined to report him – may be just ask the local cops to go round and have a word in his shell if you don’t want to make an ‘official complaint’.

Dibbs mate – It was Mail Order from way up north – It will get referred to ATB in any case.
