Veltins – a pale beer (German Pilsner)
Fresh, slightly bitter with a citrus-y taste. Proper delicious.
deludedFree MemberThis is getting somewhat ridiculous – the release of his car index, FB with work contact details, offers to disclose his H/A etc??
We have ONE account – and that’s all at the moment and we still await to see the alleged defects.
Can I suggest we exercise a little more restraint and open mindedness?
deludedFree MemberThe NHS physiotherapist for my snapped Achilles was timorous and overly cautious I felt. I was sent away with a raft of printed off exercises and that was about it.
I decided to see a physio privately who came highly recommended by work colleagues and had worked with the England RFU. He was merciless with his massages – using two golf balls and running them roughly up either side of my now thickened Achilles tendon, to disperse synovial fluid that had built up in the paratenon (I think I’ve got that right). This was coupled with reasonably aggressive massaging of my calf muscle. He also gave me more progressive routines than the NHS ones and installed some confidence in me, as I was mincing around, fearing a re-rupture.
I was back cycling four months (to the day) after fully rupturing my tendon and was head and shoulders above all of the other ‘rupturees’ in my NHS group, some of whom were 15 years younger and had elected surgical repair (I was conservatively managed in a cast) – I attributed this to the Physio I’d seen – worth every penny.
deludedFree MemberSnyder’s of Hanover Jalapeno Pretzel Pieces accompanied by 6 pints of Veltins German Pilsner.
deludedFree MemberLOL.. it was never ‘sexy’
yunki – you’ve never seen me dancing – that’s what I was referring to :D
deludedFree MemberI thought big hitter and helmet threads were mutually co-dependent.

last time I went was in ’94 and it was turning into a right old bunch of bland commercial knackers then. God knows how horrific it is now!
You’re like one of those proper hardcore, old skool radicals aren’t you!
I doubt it’s horrific mate – people probably still enjoying themselves and having fun.
Edit – although Chumbawamba played in 94 and what a bag of old **** they were. That couldn’t have been fun or enjoyable.
deludedFree MemberI’m going to give it a nudge this year along with about ten mates (+ wives & kids), using it as an occasion to celebrate our 40th birthdays.
A few of us are going to club together for an old ramshackle caravan that will get us through the few days that we’re there, which is good for me as I need my own space to retreat to now and then.
I must resist the temptation though of getting on decent Somerset rough, and then thinking it wise to bang out some moves in the Dance Tent. As a ever so slightly over-nourished middle aged baldy, I can’t imagine it would be as ‘sexy’ as it was in the mid 90’s :P
deludedFree MemberGo on a career break for a year with MC – and use it frugally to live off whilst you both doing voluntary charity work abroad … then reap the karma.

deludedFree MemberContrary to popular belief Ridley Scott wanted a voice over, but he didn’t like how it was executed – he referred to it as ‘Irving the Explainer’. RS didn’t want the storyline to be dependent on the narration – he wanted the voice over to reflect the cynical tones in the Humphrey Bogart movies, which was a time honoured device for film noir.
It was thought in the end that the narration made it more accessible to a general audience.
Philip K Dick didn’t want it.
It was RS’s idea to include the live unicorn in the DC. The bit when Deckard picks up the foil sculpture, with Gaffs words in the background ‘It’s too bad she won’t live. But then again, who does? Deckard nods, acknowledging that he realises Gaff let her live – yet when the live dream Unicorn is included in the DC it takes on a different complexion – the nod that he’s a Replicant – superb.
Simply the best film ever made.
That’s the beauty of the film for me – in the end it’s not really about who is or isn’t a replicant, it’s a meditation on what it means to be human.
– and that’s probably the best summation you will get of the film.
deludedFree MemberThat’s an ace selection – I mentioned Gaunt’s Ghost and Eisenhorn but remissly neglected to highlight Ravenor. Altered Carbon really is a must.
deludedFree MemberThe Takeshi Kovacs trilogy (Altered Carbon, Broken Angels and Woken Furies) by Richard Morgan, utterly superb – not read anything that good in years (in any genre).
Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn and Gaunt’s Ghost stuff is v good.
Got halfway through Revelation Space by Alistair Reynolds but just couldn’t bring myself to finish it – found it really hard work.
Currently reading The Atrocity Archives by Charles Stross – if that doesn’t buck its ideas up in the next few pages or so it’s getting fired-off.
EDIT – Anything by H.P. Lovecraft. More connoisseurs horror / weird fiction really, but could loosely be termed Sci Fi.
deludedFree MemberCheesy chips & a pint – fantastic. Is that sheep listening to some tunes?
deludedFree MemberDD – I understand that … but why? What’s the relevance – does he have a love of Scandinavian cars?
deludedFree MemberI say bring them back, but hovering over the tag will display the user who posted them, perhaps?
+1
I used to laugh at ‘Volvo For Sale’ but never really knew why! What does it mean?
deludedFree MemberCos it’s hardly religion’s fault if nutters use it to further their own causes, is it?
nutters? Do you mean nations of people’s over millennia? You can’t reduce it to nutters!
Say it how you want molgrips – there are irreconcilable differences between various man made religions that attach to and animate existing disputes.
deludedFree Membermolgrips,
You’ve not understood what I’ve written.
True there will be prior reasons for dispute – that’s why I used ‘may not be incipiently’. What binds people in acting violently to resolve these differences, more than anything else is religion. Religious sectarianism acts as a fuel and underpins attitudes and behaviours.
deludedFree MemberCheers DezB.
This will now be the new ‘should have gone to Specsavers’ ad.
deludedFree MemberArgument and debate is what this forum is about – it makes you re-evaluate your personal point of view. My own beliefs have been challenged and subsequently changed following another users contribution. However some on here are not able to restrains themselves from publishing lengthy screeds multiple times on a single thread. This is off-putting and unattractive to those that don’t aspire to Big Hitter status.
On a personal note I couldn’t care less what tag I’m given – I’m fairly certain I’ve been on the end of less flattering ones outside the forum :D
deludedFree Membermolgrips,
Not too sure about your freedom fighters observation.
Religion energises human hostility like nothing else! Some of these conflicts may not be incipiently religious but they cohere the participants to carry out all sorts of human atrocities.
Palestine – Jews vs. Muslims
Balkans – Orthodox Serbians vs. Catholic Croatians, add in Bosnian / Albanian Muslims into the mix.
Northern Ireland – Protestants vs. Catholics
Kashmir – Muslims vs. Hindus
Sudan – Muslims vs. Christians
Nigeria – Muslims vs. Christians
Ethiopia & Eritrea – Muslims vs. Christians
Iran vs. Iraq – Shiite vs. Sunni Muslimsto name just a few in recent history.
deludedFree MemberCfh – that touch up job of the Jesus painting deserves a thread of its own! I’m still undecided as to whether it was a pi55 take or not – looked like Keith Harris’s ‘Cuddles’ monkey puppet. V funny!
deludedFree MemberThe Sun, reaffirming its journalistic values – that being less than zero. As a news piece WGAF? What they should have said is that the article would be of interest to their readership, not the public!
More to the point who was the wretched, piteous creature that took/released the images … for gain I assume? Very poor manners on their part.
deludedFree Membercynic-al, then it’s you we have to congratulate. No designs on modding just interested.
Klunk – good link. Favourite could be the ‘Furious Typer’ – few of those on here.
deludedFree MemberAAMOI – what’s the provenance of the term ‘Big Hitter’ on this forum. When and who came up with that?
Also when’s the next selection process to become a Moderator?
deludedFree MemberI suppose above all else, a Paralympian would want their skill in a discipline or event respected, just in the same way we appreciate a more able bodied athletes ability in the Olympics. What I can’t imagine they’d want, is for their natural talent, application and effort being eclipsed by people patting them on the back for their determination in succeeding with a physical disadvantage … or how they ‘inspire’ others BECAUSE of their impairment – does that make sense (I’m trying to convey my meaning as best I can)? They want to be recognised in exactly the same way as Usain Bolt or Jessica Ennis does, with the added motivation perhaps of tackling bigotry.
When discussing the Paralympics I think we need to guard against covering the participants in syrupy sentiments.

deludedFree MemberPowerful.
Almost beyond words to satisfactorily describe the courage involved.
A DFC well deserved by Jon Singh for his actions and his ‘blind flying’. I’m flabbergasted by the big set he displayed.
Always feel a little shell-shocked after watching these episodes. I hope there are adequate provisions in place to deal with the psychological fallout some of the soldiers must feel when they get back.
deludedFree Memberwrecker,
The Albion is a bit exxy that’s for sure. And there’s a risk of bumping into a coiffured doughnut wearing red jeans, polo short with upturned collars, obligatory sweater draped over their shoulders and yellow crocs :D
deludedFree MemberTo be honest – I’ve got to the age where the city centre feels me with utter dread. The upper end of Park Street is close enough to the seething masses and the vomittorium that is ‘kebab corner’ by the Hippodrome.
If I’m out in Bristol it will be The Mall, The Clifton, The Coronation Tap or The Albion – all up in Clifton … or my old haunt Bocabar on the Bath Road but that’s a bit isolated for a lads night out.
deludedFree MemberGood on him – making his own way in life and forging out a career, not that that stops you worrying as a parent. Signals is a good choice, as presumably he will leave with IT/comms qualifications to take onwards into civvy street.
deludedFree Memberbatfink – Member
The point being – are we part of the problem?
Undoubtedly – people need to be wary of who they’re potentially buying from and not let a ‘bargain’ cloud their judgement. It’s all about supply and demand.
@ yunki
There will be some of that yunki – good point well made.
deludedFree Memberkimbers – No, it isn’t, but Bristol does have a very active bike scene and so where there’s abundance, there’s theft.
Acquisitive crime has changed in recent years. High end bikes are big business to thieves. The yield to effort/punishment makes it an attractive area to ‘work’ in. People being followed to their H/A’s is replicated up and down the country. Areas like Ashton Court and trail centres are obvious sources for rich pickings unfortunately. Raising peoples awareness to this issue is what’s required so that they can take precautionary measures and think more about the general security of their property.
deludedFree MemberI’ve been watching The Accused on the TV, which has just this minute ended – thought it was pretty good. What have I missed?
Who is THM?
Thanks.
deludedFree MemberTragic – all the best mate with trying to come to terms with the loss of your mum.
I note that Sarah was 34 when she was diagnosed – I was under the impression it occurred later on in life 8O
Hopefully this disease is on the end of some decent funding in order to find a cure or improve a sufferers quality of life.
