At the exit interview ask matey what his/her problem was. The REAL reason.

Give him/her some 360 degree feedback on their overbearing and bullying nature.

If, as a driver, you are involved in a road-traffic accident and damage is caused to another vehicle or to someone else’s property and details are not exchanged at the scene, BOTH drivers must report the accident at a police station or to a police constable as soon as they can, and in any case within 24 hours.

Literally, “for the win.” Less literally – I have decided who came first in this imagined contest.

Creed was a good read, as was Sepulchre.

Creed would have made a good film, I reckon.

I’ve recently gone through a slightly anxious stage as I transition into my 40‘s – evaluating my life thus far, determining future goals etc, etc – but aside from that I’m happy. My wife is due to give birth to our first born in a months time, all is well at work, financially we have no worries, I’m surrounded by close mates who I grew up with and have good leisure / social outlets … and I find myself in rude health (apart from carrying a bit too much timber).

I wish I’d been a little more chilled out and wiser in my youth. It took me a while to discover that sources of satisfaction sometimes lie beyond my control and that the world does not reliably confirm to my wishes.

I think you’re looking into it too deeply. It’s not one particularly word – more a name that identifies who killed St. Clare (a name is a word).

The usual engraved tribute on the General’s sepulcher (or whatever) reads –

Sacred to the Memory of General Sir Arthur St. Clare, Hero and Martyr, who Always Vanquished his Enemies and Always Spared Them, and Was Treacherously Slain by Them At Last. May God in Whom he Trusted both Reward and Revenge him.’

What Father Brown didn’t want to see is –

Sacred to the Memory of General Sir Arthur St. Clare, Hero and Martyr, who Always Vanquished his Enemies and Always Spared Them, and Was Treacherously Slain by Colonel Clancy (or Captain Keith, or President Olivier) At Last. May God in Whom he Trusted both Reward and Revenge him.’

Well, that’s how I read it anyhow!

I’ve not served in HM Forces, so I hope I’m not romanticizing it, but the camaraderie and sense of belonging that he’ll no doubt experience will be something special.

Has anyone read ‘The Lies of Locke Lamora’ the first of the Gentlemen Bastard series by Scott Lynch? It’s on my read list – seems well recommended.

Jury dynamics can be complicated. I don’t know whether its been mentioned yet but sometimes juries will not convict because, although they accept that more likely than not there’s been a breach of the law, they nonetheless side with the defendant in the circumstances. So yes, he or she maybe technically guilty, but such is their sympathy they will acquit (and they will look to any reason to do so). It’s what I term ‘the law of the jungle’ – which probably only makes sense to me!

I’ve given up trying to predict what way juries will go at trial. One thing they are not are homogenous entities that are consistent with one another. I’ve been witness to truly breath taking insouciance – members falling asleep, failing to grasp the rudimentaries of a case, playing detective themselves and (I impute from their questions) coming up with all manner of preposterous hypotheses.

Your average STW thread, (with all the varying views, opinions, wild assertions, biases, irrelevancies and disregard for the facts) can be like a deliberating jury in-action … yeah, frightening isn’t it to think that some of us on here might one day be called upon to perform our civic duty!

For balance – I’ve know of many, very engaged, intelligent and interested juries that take their role seriously as well and some good points have been made on here. Jurors can find themselves in a confusing, adversarial arena with some towering ego’s swaggering about, which they have to acclimatise to before then even begin to assimilate and interpret the information.

Thankfully, global support for the death penalty dwindles each year. Apart from animalising society, the most compelling argument against CP is that innocent people will be killed by it due to shortcomings in the justice system and human fallibility.

Z-11 I never got into KMFDM for some reason, which is strange given their similarity to bands on that list. A bit too discordant & shouty!

Zippykona – I know what you mean. There are many sub-genres of Industrial and within that are a number of bands that flirt or have a tacit relationship with the far right, particularly amongst the lesser know support acts. Creepy indeed.

    Anyway – here’s a Front 242 remix.

Rusty – I don’t know if you’re on FB or not but if you are you might like to follow Side-Line Magazine, which is dedicated to all things Goth & Industrial. It’s very good at exposing you to new bands and home brew re-mixes.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Great performance from Jerome Flynn last week and Iain Glen is always mustard in whatever he appears in.

    Looking forward to tonight’s installment.

Hopefully it’s been successful enough to get another series. The DVD / Blu-Ray is out on 18th of this month for those interested.

    Bruders, mate.

Your profile indicates you are from Kent.

I found this website ‘holding on letting go’ (Rochester, Kent). Take a look. They have experience in working with bereaved children with learning disabilities. They might be able to help your child that is autistic … or put you in contact with another agency.
