Since the start of the year I’ve deleted news apps, unsubscribed from an online newspaper and no longer watch the news on TV. I’m sick of ingesting fear, hatred and violence 24/7. Feeling much better for it – less anger, frustration and negativity.

I take sabbaticals from this place if the ass-hatery quotient gets too much. :-)

Go to your LBS and grab a box and stuffing that they received their frames etc in. Buy something off the shelf or get the mechanics some beer / biscuits so as not to take the pi55.

Most couriers charge the same – not much difference between them.

I have foreseen my death, and it’s driving a white Porsche Cayenne holding the phone in one hand to organise her weekly colonic, whilst the other hand keeps the Waitrose bags upright with one eye on the rear view mirror to eyeball Rupert and Tabitha who are fighting over the iPad in the back seat.

    Brilliant :D

I’ve always struggled with commuting because I don’t want to associate or hard wire in my brain, work and my favourite pastime (cycling) – for fear that the former will negatively effect the latter.

I saw a pratt in their car the other day, who was playing at being Tank Commander – peering out a small oblong aperture in the windscreen that had been cleared of frost and thought, ‘F cycling to work’ – with doughnuts like that on the road.

A decent micro-fibre cloth, professional grade silicone polish and some effort will buff that out.

This is a band that’s been going since 1979/1980 (if you include when they were known as ‘Composition of Sounds’). Their longevity is testament to their greatness.

Phenomenal and one of the most influential bands of the last 35 years. Perhaps THE most significant / seminal electronic band ever. They’ve influenced so many spheres and genres of music – House, Trance, Rave, Pop, Synth Pop, Goth, Dark Wave, Rock, Industrial and on and on.

I don’t go along with them not being up to much live (all a question of opinion and all that). I’ve seen them on numerous occasions and they’ve been hypnotic on each. Best gig was at Crystal Palace in 93 when they were supported by SoM.

I’m split between Music for the Masses and Violator as to when they reached their absolute pinnacle.

Unfortunately Alan Wilder left and they were never to reach their former heights. His departure showed what a huge power he was in Mode’s sound.

One of my most prized possessions is my post-school canvass rucksack that had the Violator rose expertly painted on by one of my best mates … I can’t get into my white jeans anymore though :D

The Red Riding Quartet are excellent and I thought the TV adaptation was pretty good but as tri-episodes it shoe-horns the books together and consequently fails to capture their full depth and complexity.

It say’s it’s ‘based on real events’, but I think the plot threads are an amalgam of various true cases – such as the murder of Lesley Molseed.

Sean Harris was superb as the extremely menacing D/Supt Bob Craven. Aye, a raight nasteh ba’sted!

I’d like to contribute to this thread, but there are people that I work, ride and generally associate with that frequent the forum who know me in Real Life © outside of STW – so I’ll leave it at that. Needless to say I have an inner geek* that has raged inside me since I was 12 (40) – a side of me that my wife finds hugely unappealing, taking the pi55 whenever it boils to the surface!

*I do draw the line at LARP’ing, however.

Although a copper, I work in another area of policing and haven’t dealt with a traffic matter for over 15 years. However this is what I think – you would be wise to research it yourself though :D

It seems you’ve been lucky (if that’s an appropriate term). Had you been clocked at 76mph – the guidelines (under ‘Speed Enforcement’ in the below link) suggest you ought to receive a summons to court for a stiffer sanction than can be imposed by the Fixed Penalty Scheme.

    http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/p_to_r/road_traffic_offences_guidance_on_fixed_penalty_notices/

From the circumstances you describe, you are eligible to be dealt with by way of the FPS. If you wish to plead not guilty your case will be heard in court.

The Speed Awareness Courses are aimed at those caught speeding just above the limit and will only be open to people caught breaking the speed limit by 10% + 9mph or less – so, not you.

Please drive more responsibly in the future – thanks.

His (and my own) favourite poem.

    Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
